Dynafit Beast Gore-Tex Jacket - Women's

Beastly breathability in a waterproof packable.

The Women's Beast is Dynafit's lightest and most breathable ski jacket for tourers. A 3-layer Gore-Tex Active shell makes up the Beast with guaranteed waterproof protection that still provides the high breathability that tourers need. Gore-Tex Active is so thin and light that you can pack the entire jacket into its hood for compact convenience. A comfort fit allows plenty of layers, and articulated sleeves ensure a full range of motion. The Beast also features zippered ventilation, a helmet-compatible hood, hook-and-loop cuffs, a zippered sleeve pocket, and two large front pockets that you can access with a backpack or a harness on.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small

I have used this Beast GTX jacket (size small) for ski touring and snow trail runs with the dog. Plenty of space for many layers, I have worn it with a wool base for quick trips skinning or with my dynafit vulcan down jacket (size XS) or a similar weight ortovox jacket.

beast gtx + insulator mid + base + body in motion = heat

The two front pockets are big enough for skins or a large supply of (unused) dog poo bags an iphone plus etc. I'm not sure if I resemble spongebob when I stuff my skins in the pockets because I have not seen a mirror image, but I do know it is an efficient quick fit and I found it was not as bothersome on the descent as one may presume.

I think the jacket is true to size for it's intended use, the cut is slightly feminine, and it is lightweight yet impermeable.
Movement is natural and unrestricted during activity which is most important for me (besides the obvious of repelling snow/water). Many waterproof jackets sound quite loud and crunchy which I find distracting, this one is not as bothersome. The cuffs easily fit with my mittens, no fumbling.

Overall high quality shell, vibrant color, and streamlined feel with ease of movement.

Great shell

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Dynafit is known for light weight functional products, and that's exactly what this shell delivers. I've used it for touring and resort skiing. It has a removable ski bib that buttons on to my beast shell pants perfectly, keeping unwanted snow out when I take a fall! The hood fits perfectly over my helmet, and the arm and back length are long enough to keep the wind out when I'm really moving around. Chest and arm pockets are great, and the under arm vents are easily accessed when wearing a pack. The membrane keeps the water and wind out, and when I layer it with either my lighter radical or heavier borax primaloft jackets it keeps me nice and toasty warm. Very feminine and flattering fit, and the colours beautiful!! I can't say enough good things about this jacket! I usually wear a medium with Dynafit products, but I ordered this in a large so I could layer and its fits perfectly.

Great shell

Gore Tex works

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

This shell worked great on a recent backcountry ski trip that included some rain. There are many other brands of waterproof laminate, but Gore Tex is the best. The small fits her 5' 5" 115 lb frame just right. And front of the collar is just the right height. On the old jacket it was too high and rubbed her chin raw.

Superb shell, great color

I really love this shell - i use it for backcountry touring mostly.

What i love:

1) lightweight and packs small

2) Super thin, but the goretex completely protects from wind and water

3) pit zips for ventilation

4) high, large pockets that are easy to access while wearing a backpack - major major plus!

5) beautiful, saturated colors!

other notes: runs a bit large

Superb shell, great color

Great Shell

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

This is a great shell! I really like the color and the fit. The jacket is also super lightweight. My only complaint is the pockets. I could not get use to not having the pockets on the side of the jacket- so I had to return it. If they made this jacket with pockets on the side and front- I'd be a keeping it without a doubt!!!!

The pockets are placed higher and by the main zipper so that they can be accessed when wearing a backpack - it's one of the great design plusses of this backcountry oriented jacket.

Sole, I think that is a personal preference for you. Not all backcountry skiers enjoy that, esp. this one.

Go To Shell for Ski Touring & Freeskiing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: S

Use: This is my go to shell for skiing period. If I'm resort skiing I wear a light insulation layer underneath. If I'm ski touring I wear an insulation layer over top as needed, but hike and ride with this as my primary outer layer. It would work great for other activities as well (climbing, hiking, ect).

Fit: I really like the fit. It's feminine and attractive, but still comfy and just the right amount of roomy. If anything I would say it runs a touch on the large side but not much. The back is nice and long so you don't ever worry about your bum sticking out too much.

Pockets: I believe the pockets were made to hold skins, which I don't use them for often (too much bust up front for me if you know what I'm saying..) but they are big enough to hold skins. I like the pockets mostly because they are easy to open and close with gloves on. I like to store my phone there and play music while I'm hiking. I also put ski straps, snacks, and granola bar wrappers in there. Key being, easy to use and get to.

Cuffs: I make note of the cuffs because I really like them. A lot of jackets have weird cuffs, but these cuffs are easy to adjust with gloves on, you can get most gloves underneath without much trouble or cinch the cuff down and put the glove over top. Nice feature.

What is the sizing like on this jacket? Does anyone have any recommendations on sizing up or down?

Hi Sandy, the jacket is pretty true to size. It is designed to be a looser fitting Ski shell. However, in comparison to the men's it has much more shape through the waist to give a more feminine look and fit.

Can someone tell me the average back length of this jacket?
