DPS SkisCassiar 95 Pure3 Ski - Men's

A frontside rocket for new-school traditionalists.

Storm riding is great, but since we don't all live on Hokkaido, having a killer frontside ski in your quiver is a must. DPS made its name with fat powder boards, but that's not all the company does; the Cassiar 95 Pure3 Ski is an all-mountain missile made to rail groomers, stitch up tight bump lines, and punch through shallow crud, with the lightness and carbon-fiber stiffness for which DPS is known.

Pure3 is DPS' stiff and light flagship construction. It starts with a core made of energetic aspen, which is then sandwiched between two layers of prepreg carbon fiber, creating a core that's 30% stiffer and lighter than similar offerings made with more traditional constructions. By keeping the core light and stiff, DPS was able to keep the Cassiar incredibly nimble and easy to ski in tight spots, without sacrificing the power that you need to rally hardpack with confidence. The carbon-and-aspen sandwich is finished off with a durable polyamide topsheet and UHMW sidewalls, which help keep the Cassiar stiff and direct energy into the edges instead of letting it dissipate by allowing the ski to twist.

The aggressive, edgy nature of the Cassiar means that it's not a ski well suited to funky new-school rocker profiles. To that end, DPS built it with classic traditional camber, which supplies mountains of edge grip and a lively edge-to-edge feel that'll help you make short work of hard and variable snow all over the mountain. The steel edges have been hardened to 48 Rockwell, which ensures that rocky encounters won't automatically spell disaster, and DPS finished the Cassiar off with its lightning-fast and armor-tough World Cup bases, so you can choose "interesting" lines without worrying too much about ruining your planks.

high speed ripper

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this ski for guiding heli-ski season in Iceland last spring, where we see powder but also just ripping corn. these skis didnt like the variable snow as much, but more than made up for that as they are so stable, and carvable. Mounted with Marker Jesters. excellent ski.

Versatile Frontsider

I'm skiing the pure version with binding freedom inserts so I can use it with alpine and AT bindings. It rocks on groomed trails with tenacious edge grip and substantial power through fast turns. In the backcountry it tours really well, the carbon makes the up manageable. The waist size gives enough float in the fluff and performs well in firmer conditions. It was my go to ski in Jackson last March both on and off piste. A great ride!

Quiver of One

This ski can do it all! A bit more traditional than the wailer series, but still super fun, solid and competent. Powder, crud, corn or firm, this ski inspires confidence. Its amazing how well it handles firm conditions, yet floats when it gets soft. This can easily be your go to ski hill ski, or a perfect spring ski for backcountry touring.

The Cassiar 95 is a frontside ripping machine! The flatter tail combined with carbon laminates creates unbelievable power and energy from edge to edge. Tough to find a speed limit on these bad boys! I'm 5'11 165lbs and the 178 is plenty of ski.

Swung for the fence and went with the Pure version. Took a few days to get used too. The feedback and feel is a LOT different than what you get from a similar sized ski with some weight behind it. I would say the performance benefits of the Pure construction are subtle but you will definitely fell a lot less fatigued at the end of the day. Better in all snow conditions than everything else I have tried in its category with exceptional hard snow/groomer skills.
