Unlike most pull-apart plastic hangers, DMM's metal Vault secures your ice tools throughout the climb. The wire gate keeps the Vault as light as its plastic predecessors, and the locking gate secures your valuable ice screws and axes on approaches and descents.

  • Strong metal construction
  • Available as light wire gate or secure locking gate

Secure, not flimsy

A single screw costs about as much as this thing. It’s a lot more secure than the plastic versions, both in how it racks gear and how it rides on the harness.

DMM Vault is a force multiplier

The Vault yields smoother and more positive one stroke clipping of screws than plastic clippers. No wiggle or movement in the harness. I can clip unclip stack and sort Petzl and BD Express screws on the Vault with no clearance issues as noted on some ice climbing sites. You will feel a noticeable positive kinetic difference when placing or removing screws on the Vault compared to plastic clippers. I have only had one problem using plastic clippers while climbing. While clipping screws before leading a pitch the wire gate on my clipper came completely off. My partner replaced it and it didn’t malfunction after that. But, had he not seen where the gate wire landed in the snow I would have had to risk screws coming off the plastic hook or returned to prior days of clipping each screw with a separate carabiner. I can tell you this is not going to happen using the Vault. It is bomb proof. It is also expensive. I think it is worth it. Costs less than a good ice screw and could save you loosing one, or more. That aside, you will just feel better with it on your harness. It’s a force multiplier. (Note: I have the wire gate Vault not the locking Vault.)
