    It's a classic for a reason.

DMM's Classic Rope Bag gets all your climbing essentials to and from crags, faraway walls, and the local gym. With a 31 liter capacity, the Classic can store one 80-meter rope as well as draws, harness, and shoes, or you can fit two 60-meter half ropes and more gear with careful packing. This backpack converts into a messenger bag by removing one of the shoulder straps and attaching it to the front. This is extra convenient when you have an extra backpack with more gear.

Made out of PU-coated ripstop, the bag and its integrated tarp protect your gear from light rainfall and the wet ground. The integrated tarp is large to make sure your rope doesn't touch any dirt, and tie-in points prevent the rope from tangling up on the approach. A secure buckled closure makes it quick and easy to pack everything up, and compression straps keep your gear from moving around while hiking. DMM added a zippered top pocket for electronics and other valuables.

Just What I was Looking For

I was looking for a bag that I could use to store all of my climbing gear together. This is perfect, it will fit a 70M rope with my harness, shoes and all of the other climbing gear that I need. There is also a rope tarp on the inside to keep your rope clean and out of the muck. If you need to clear some extra room, there are perfect straps outside of the bag to clip biners and quickdraws. The backpack feature is super comfortable and if you need you can carry it as a duffel. This is the best sport climbing bag I was able to find on the market

      Just stuff it

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got this bag for me and my boyfriend's sport climbing gear. We can fit our coiled 70 meter rope, both harnesses, 2 chalk bags, 12 quick draws, 2 carabiners with belay devices, a basic anchoring system, and our climbing shoes. The zippered top pocket can fit snacks, phone, keys, and other small personal items. The backpack straps are cleverly designed so that they can be converted to a duffle style carry if desired. My only minor complaint is the lack of a sternum strap and waist belt that would be nice for load bearing on longer approaches.

      Just stuff it

      Best Bag Ever

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love this bag. Use it for the gym and the crag and everyone comments on how nice it looks. Feels great even when loaded with gear and a rope. Very happy with it

      Great Bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag works great for my 70m rope, and is comfortable for short or long hikes.

Does this bag have a chest or waist strap?

Hey Lauren, This bag does not have a chest or waist strap. Doesn't mean you can't rig one up with webbing !

      Good Bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got this to hold my 10.4 60m. Overall, this is a great rope bag, if you just want to carry your rope. There's not a whole lot of additional space for the rest of your climibing gear. There is extra space, but it's not ample and there's no inner organization options. It comes with a nice large tarp inside and is easy to stuff and cinch down with the strap system.. I do love the sling strap capability as well for when I'm carrying 2 bags at the crag. Also, nice little pouch on the tope outside to throw in keys, phone, snack, etc...

I wish it had some extra space, but that's on me, probably should have just gotten one of their larger bags. This bag is as advertised and does what it needs to do well.

      Awesome bag and awesome company!!!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this bag! I have had it for at least a year and have used it regularly. I love the versatility of the backpack and shoulder sling option. I really wanted a bag that I could carry as a backpack to make it easier for hiking into the crag. Sure its not the most comfortable for long hikes, but the backpack option makes the long hikes doable. Super easy to switch the strap and hop around from route to route with it in sling style.

The removable tarp option is awesome too. You can leave it attached, or unattach it and just take the rope to the next route instead of having to drag all of your stuff. The tarp is a great size and is really durable. I carry a 70 m, 10.2 mm rope and some extra gear. My rope is pretty big but I can also fit in a harness and a set of draws/carabiners/atc etc. Its a little tough to fit all my stuff in because my rope is so big, but the compression straps on the outside are also great for attaching stuff to.

The company is also amazing! This is my first product from DMM, but I am a believer. The product is great, very well made and super innovative ideas. I did have a buckle break (though I don't know why, leave it to my boyfriend) and I emailed the company and they sent me over a replacement buckle right away. Great customer service! Great product! Buy this bag!!!!

Super Comfortable and Plenty of Space

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love how comfortable it is as a backpack. I've taken it outdoor climbing about 15 times and I take my 70m rope, two harnesses, chalk bag, 12 quickdraws, daisy chain, climbing shoes, external phone battery charger, music speakers, tape, and a knife. Plenty of room.

      Let's multipitch.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

DMM is by far my favorite climbing company. This rope bag just proves that they know what they're doing. I invested in this because of the padded shoulders and the ample room in the bag for multipitching. I like that if i need to, I can take the tarp out and put it with my other climbing bag. The only thing I think this bag is missing is a chest strap. I fix that with a sling and a biner though!

      Great sport climbing bag!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Absolutely love this bag! I fit a 70 m. Rope and two harnesses. It is Also able to fit 14 quick draws, And an assortment of belay device's with locking caribiners. The tarp could be just a tad bigger, but overall it is a good size. The shoulder strap can be moved to make it a great duffle bag. It works great when packing another pack of gear. Straps are easy on your shoulders when using it as a back pack.

      Love it!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this to use as a gym bag instead of using an old backpack. It has been everything I wanted. The size is perfect, it fits two pair of climbing shoes, chalk bucket, and my harness easily. I highly recommend this product!

      Exactly what I wanted!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This bag is awesome. I just got it and have used it several times. I keep my 70 meter rope and harness in it and they fit with room to spare. When I head outside I know the rest of my gear will also fit. It would be nice if it has some places to strap stuff to on the outside. It doesn't look like the type of pack that you'd want to have if you had to hike for a while. So far I really like it.

      Great Rope Bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This rope bag is great. It fits my 70 meter rope easily and the shoulder straps are super comfortable. The rope is easy to get in and out and the large detachable mat makes it easy to take the rope from climb to climb. It would be hard to fit any extra gear with a 70 meter rope, but I bet you could fit a fair amount of gear with a 60 meter. It would be nice to have room for gear, but other than that, it's perfect.

      Good design

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I loved the design of the pack , the duffle style opening and the straps to hold it all together which turned it into a duffle, but I always felt like i needed more space. I could fit my 70m rope, shoes, harness, 10-15 draws, a jacket and some food but had to be creative for it to all fit with the zipper closing. The tarp that can come off is great. The lack of waist or chest straps doesn't make it good for hikes longer that 15 min when your carrying all your equipment though. Also you have to be care full when placing it on the floor cause all that dirt gets on your back.

      Solid design

Works great, and has plenty of space for accessories. Feels good as a pack.

        Perfect Sport Climbing Crag Pack

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

There are only a few things I dislike about this bag. It's darn near perfect. First of all I wanted something with a vertical zipper and rope tarp that carried like a backpack and there weren't that many options. This fit the bill. I can fit a 60 m 9.8, 10-15 draws, harness, shoes, water, food, guide book, etc. if I pack creatively. I love that the pack has backpack straps, but can also be switched to duffel style carry quickly and easily. If the approach is long, but the climbs are close together I hike with the backpack on, then to move from climb to climb I just throw the duffel strap on and carry it that way. I do wish that the straps were a little more heavy-duty and I wish there was a waist belt, but the quality is top notch and it's super comfortable for 10-15 minutes of hiking. Internal gear loops would also have been nice. Other than that a couple liters of extra space wouldn't have hurt. This bag is awesome for sport climbing though. And it's way more affordable than the BD or Patagucci alternatives.

        Perfect Sport Climbing Crag Pack

        Great bag!!!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag is a good size for sport climbing. Not sure how it would fit a trad rack....looks like it would be a little small. But I haven't tried. Quality construction, simple, and the rope tarp is removable....which is awesome!!!! Overall great bag. I would buy another!

Hi there, just wondering what the actual dimensions of this bag is when full? Trying to figure out if it would be considered a carry-on, or small enough to be a personal item (to fit under a seat) for a flight. Thanks in advance!

        Hey Monica,

While I don't have exact dimensions of the bag, both my roommates do have this bag. If completely filled I don't think you'd be able to fit it under the seat in front of you but you would be able to put it int he overhead bin.

Does the tarp detach from the bag or is it permanently attached to it?

        Hey!

The tarp does detach from the bag via a burly strip of Velcro. Super easy to use!

Feel free to contact me if you need anything else.

        Best bag out! Period!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this bag months ago because of how large it is, has tarp and is able to get extremely small with all the gear in it. DMM makes phenomenal products and this one is a must. I bought it in green so it is bright at night, plus its my favorite colour. I can fit the following in the bag with zero problems:

        harness
        climbing shoes
        12-18 quick draws
ATC/gri gri and tons of biners
        5 slings
        60m mammut 10.0 rope
        chalk bag
        2-3 bags of chalk
        first aid/medic emergency kit
and other misc. stuff such as tape, protein shake and the usual 5-10 clif bars

and I still have enough room to fit much more stuff. The buckles are great, it is comfortable with good padding on shoulders, highly durable and does absorb or soak with water. Cant beat the price especially when its on sale. Great buy and a must in my opinion. I have tons of complements and people interested in it when I go to the local gym and crag.
