Voodoo Falls 590 Turbodown Hooded Jacket

There's so much warmth packed into the lightweight Columbia Men's Voodoo Falls 590 Turbodown Hooded Jacket that it's just got to be magic. There's no other possible explanation. Unless, of course, it's the 590 TurboDown insulation.

The TurboDown seamlessly blends 550-fill duck down with 40g of synthetic Microtemp XF II insulation for furnace-like warmth in teeth-chatteringly cold conditions. Backing up the aforementioned mystical insulation is an OmniHeat Reflective lining that traps your precious body heat and bounces it back to your core for more defense against jack frost. Adjustable drawcords at the hem and hood let you cinch down your situation depending on the weather, and elastic binding at the cuffs provide a plush, snug fit. Not to mention, a few zippered pockets provide safe transport of your essentials and keep them right where you want them.

  • Lightweight and toasty jacket for winter-time activities
  • Water-resistant fabric helps shed moisture and precipitation
  • Synthetic and duck down insulation provides warmth
  • Regular fit assures a natural range of motion
  • Adjustable hood and hem block out weather
  • Zippered pockets keep valuables close at hand

Great jacket but a few considerations

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Large

I love Columbia gear and as a result, I own a fair amount of their products. I bought this jacket basing my sizing and color choice off of some of their other gear I have. I have 3 other Columbia jackets 2 soft shell full zips and 1 heavier omni-heat rain shell (olive green) with a removable fleece. All of the jackets that I owned prior to this purchase are a size large, therefore, I assumed that was a safe bet and I ordered a large size for this jacket as well. I am not necessarily unhappy with the purchase but being a more slender/athletic build, there is a lot of room in this jacket (more than expected) but the length is perfect. I definitely think I could have gone with a medium but I'm also used to up-sizing in order to get desired length with most clothing brands, so no big deal if that is what you are looking for or if you are wanting to layer clothing underneath this jacket (both of which I am fine with). The only other consideration I think worth messaging is that I ordered the olive green topo fade option but the picture isn't very accurate. The olive green topo fade looks exactly like my flat olive green rain jacket in the picture but is in fact the exact same style as the azul topo fade option (light on top by shoulders and lighter at the bottom) just olive green instead of blue, imagine that. Having said all that, this is a very quality product and I get every bit of use out of it that I wanted to when I ordered it. I would definitely recommend this product but felt it was worth sharing my knowledge of the product so nobody else gets an unexpected color or a slightly larger size than they were hoping for. Overall, the complaints I have can be traced back to my own decisions and a bad picture representation, which I would assume to be Backcountry's fault. Nonetheless, I still love Columbia gear (this jacket included) and Backountry takes care of their customers (awesome price, free 2 day shipping, and great customer service). I know I could have sent this back pretty hassle free knowing Backcountry's policies but decided I was happy with it and it now resides in my gear closet. I would definitely recommend both this jacket as well as buying from this site to anyone on the fence however. Hope this review helps, thanks!

Awesome stuff

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: Large

It fits great and is warmer than expected, especially for as light as it is and not bulky.

Feathers falling out frequently

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

It seems i got a defective one. The down feather is coming out every time i wear it which spoils the experience of an otherwise good jacket. What would be the solution?

Perfect Fit!!!!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this as a gift and the feedback was great. Keeps you warm and fits great!!!!!

Amazing lightweight coat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I had to buy a new puffy coat because my previous one was leaking feathers. I came across this one and the price was right at a little over $100. When I received it, I was shocked by how thin it was. I was anticipating having to send it back, because there was no way that this little coat would keep me warm in gruesome New England winters. Thankfully, I was mistaken. This coat is amazing. I had it in 8 degree weather and was literally sweating! I love the slim profile, and the hood is perfectly shaped. Very well constructed. Don't delay. Grab this today.

Pretty Neat Science...Possibly Voodoo.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Want to walk around wearing a space blanket shrouded in a torso length sleeping bag and not look like a crazy person? Look know further than the Voodoo Falls 590 Turbo Down Jacket.

First of all the omni-heat reflectively layer is straight up magical and may very well be crafted with the dark arts by Tom Cruise himself. It seems gimmicky at first glance, but you can actually feel your warmth being reflected back to you. Pretty sweet. Secondly, the Trubo Down/Synthetic hybrid insulation is incredibly warm for how thin the jacket is. And because part of the insulation is synthetic, the jacket will retain a portion of it's warmth even after getting soaked. Now that will be tough to do because the water resistant nylon shell (that actually works). Finally, it's super lightweight and will pack down smaller than a nalgene, though it does not have a packable pocket. Not a huge bummer.

Fit is similar to most Columbia products in that it seems to run just a little larger than normal. In fact, my small Voodoo Falls jacket is comparable in size to Patagonia's medium. This works well, however, if you'd like to add a layer underneath. I'm 5'5

This is the best review ever

great mid weight jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this for my brother who said it is a great mid-weight jacket. He works outside a lot and it has kept him comfortable and warm.

perfect mid-layer & mild temps

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

if you are looking for a down jacket that is light ,,warm,,can be used for anything then look no more you have found it..Now let talk about the sizing its not form fitting or slim fit this jacket is regular cut jacket so go to columbia outdoors sight and check out there size chart ,,there is a cinch string at the bottom so u can pull the bottom closer to you and there is a inside zipper pocket so u put something there not worry about falling out .as for the warmth it depends on you if you are cold nature then u will layer up with thermals and sweatshirt... in temps 50 degrees to 39 degrees now that depends on windchill if you have a cold windchill then you need to put on a parka over this one.. In my use i have the columbia barlow pass parka i use this down jacket as a mid-layer it works great together i never get cold and i been in 0 degree weather so if you are seeking a great light wight mild temps.. mid-layer jacket then you have found it
