Chaco Odyssey Sandal
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Size Bought: 11
So I received a pair of Chaco Odyssey Sandals last month from Backcountry to try out and give a review. I've been running rivers for over 30 years mainly in Pacific Northwest Rivers.
The Chaco Odyssey Sandal are the most comfortable river shoes I have used in the last 30 years. It has the same foot bed of most Chacos but the toe cover adds the needed foot protection for active river running and scouting. The traction provided by the Odyssey is on par with 5.10 River Tennie or Astral river shoe. The comfort of the Odyssey in my opinion is better than the Astral or 5.10. The high top Astral offers more foot protection on the river mainly because of the ankle support.
Overall the Odyssey is one hell of a product - I can't speak to the durability of the Odyssey as I've only had them a month but the build quality is there.
I've had these on five kayaking trips in Oregon and Washington and the traction on the banks around here was excellent. I had one river rescue and the good news is I never thought about my shoes during the excitement - they just performed.
In summary I would recommend them to anyone looking for a solid river running shoe or anyone who is active around a river.
See you on the River!
