Volata 2 Jersey

On race day, slipping on your aero kit before heading to the start line is a favorite ritual of yours, but it isn't one you crave on your everyday rides. Conversely, while you may not miss race kit on an evening after-work spin, you also don't want to sacrifice tailoring and functionality entirely on your routine workouts in favor of a "comfort-focused" sack of a jersey. Of course, Castelli knows all of this already. To solve the dilemma, the firm designed the Volata 2 Full-Zip Jersey as an everyday, race-inspired training jersey that won't feel like a step down.

Without completely sacrificing aerodynamics, Castelli relaxed the aggressive cut of the Aero Race 5.1 and adapted its Velocity fabric to the Volata 2. Velocity, a dimpled, highly breathable synthetic, works to create less drag over time as you ride, giving you a feel reminiscent of an "aero" race jersey, but without the extreme cut. Other additions, such as mesh inserts along the sides and shoulders, encourage mobility and ventilation as you move around in the saddle, whether you're putting yourself through hill repeats on a Thursday night until sunset or spending all day Saturday getting as far out of the city as possible.

  • Log your training rides in this race-inspired jersey
  • Form-fitting cut is closely tailored but not extreme
  • Velocity dimpled fabric limits drag and wicks moisture
  • Subtle mesh sleeve endings prevent wandering sleeves
  • Soft jacquard elastic hem holds jersey in-place
  • Multiple pockets store your favorite training fuel

see-through jersey

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

This is going to sound like an odd comment, but I ordered the white jersey and was surprised at the level of transparency in the fabric. I put it on and looked in the mirror and you literally see your nips through the fabric. I don't really care about people seeing my chest, but it just looks weird, so I'm going to send it back, or order a base layer. I sort of think that requiring a base layer on what is intended to be a very lightweight summer jersey is odd.

I'm bummed about it, because contrary to other comments on the reviews, I think this jersey fits great. I love the longer sleeves and the tight cut. I'm 6'-1" and weigh 185 pounds. Most people are saying they'd order the extra large with those stats, but I think the large fit great. I like tight jerseys, I just don't necessarily like tight, see-through jerseys!

Shoddy Zipper

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought mine last summer. Nice jersey but even though I didn’t wear it much some of the teeth in the zipper fell out rendering it totally unwearable because it won’t zip up without those teeth. Disappointing!

keep cool in the summer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This jersey has amazing ventilation properties and the fit is superb. The fit is a bit more relaxed and stretches a bit more than most Castelli jerseys but still feels quite aero.

The arm sleeves come down a bit more than other Castelli jerseys I own but they lie flat and gives the jersey a nice classic look.

Overall this is a great jersey that I would recommend for summer riding, climbing, or just a high quality high value short sleeve jersey to add to your collection.

Tighter than normal

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

This Jersey was a size smaller than other Castelli form-fitting jerseys.

First "high end" jersey

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this to see if I can tell a difference between a (relatively) high-end aero jersey and the cheap floppy ones I'm used to. Haven't been able to detect any speed increase, but it fits like a glove. I found the sizing chart worked well for all three of the jerseys I tried (the others being an Assos that fit a tiny bit loosely and a Pearl Izumi that was slightly tight in the arm pits).

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

This jersey is perfect. Fit is tight but not restrictive. Very visible without all the ‘in your face’ graphics like other jerseys. Sleeve length is longer than average, but this seems to be the latest ‘European trend’ that every manufacturer is doing. Super light material that vents exceptionally well. Sizing is true to typical Castelli products. Size up one for best results.

Looks and fits great.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: large

Bought 2 of the Volatas and they were exactly what I was looking for. I've always worn loose, ill fitting club style jerseys and wanted to get something more form fitting and aero. Tried these out and was completely happy with the fit and material. No more wind blowing up my sleeves and catching on the billowing extra fabric around my mid-section and elsewhere. One caveat is the fit. I am 5'11" 140ish pounds and I ordered larges and they fit just about perfect. Italians must be small people because by no measure am I a large person! Order bigger than you think you'll need.

Well Made but Doesn't Look Great

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

The Jersey is well assembled, using high quality materials, and the color is good (I bought the green). But I'm not a fan of this mesh look. The strip that spans the shoulders in the rear looks totally out of place. It has no function and looks like an afterthought or a patch of some sort. I would say the size is about 1/2 smaller than expected.

Great fit, light weight, and all around comfortable.

Nice construction, but way too small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

Even "roadies" should be careful about what size to order. This jersey is at least one size smaller than similar jerseys from Giordana.

    great ventilation, classic style

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

My other jerseys get worn a lot less since I've purchased this one.

The material on the Volatta 2 breathes exceptionally well, and I'm as comfortable as I can reasonably wish to be on days up to 100 degrees, even with the anthracite color. The large mesh cuffs on the arm are even more breathable than the main body of the jersey, and do a nice job of not lying flat on your arm, as opposed to cutting into it. Additionally, the sleeves come down low on the arm, which of course looks very pro.

The right rear pocket has a nice zipper pocket that hold my house key and cards securely.

Regarding sizing, it's typical Castelli. I'm 6'3" (189 cm) and about 200 lbs (91 kg) and the XL fits me pretty well. For me, fitting my arms in the sleeves is the limiting factor for fit (as you can see in the picture, my arms are nothing to write home about).

I will likely buy another one of these jerseys in the near future.

    great ventilation, classic style

    This is a sweet jersey....

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

I recently purchased this jersey and very happy with it.
As for the fit, if you have owned a Castelli jersey before or read the sizing chart, then just size one size up.
I rode the jersey this past weekend and it was HOT- this jersey is very breathable and easy to zip down to open up the front.
The quality of this jersey is top notch and would buy another over the more expensive Superleggara Castelli jersey.

Great looking but WAY too small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 3XL

I ordered the 3XL just to be sure it fit comfortably. I usually run 2XL for jerseys. This jersey is at best a US size medium. Could barely get it over my biceps and I didn't even attempt to zip it up. Don't know what they are thinking. I was very disappointed because it's a nice jersey well made and exactly matches the color of my Bezerker green Cannondale.

    How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
