Castelli Velo Vest - Women's

Mother Nature's varying conditions often call for an extra layer — when a jersey won't keep the drizzle away, but a full jacket is overkill, Castelli's Women's Velo Vest steps in. It's a lightweight, breathable alternative that easily packs in a pocket.

Castelli's Forcefield fabric is used throughout the Velo not only for its low weight, but its windproof and water-resistant traits, too. It's a 30-gram, ripstop fabric with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating, so it retains the fabric's natural breathability. Airflow is enhanced further by mesh panels that help ventilate the core.

The Velo Vest is cut with a longer back to block wheel spray. And it's held in position with a wide silicone gripper to prevent upward migration. A high collar keeps light rain from running down the neck, and it turns into a stuff pocket for the vest. When packed away, the Velo only takes up half a jersey pocket.

For low-light safety, Castelli added a reflective logo and back tabs. The Women's Velo Vest comes in five sizes, X-Small through X-Large, and in the colors Orange Fluo, Lime, and Black.

I really wanted to like this vest

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

It's really a nice looking vest, light weight and packable but it has a very long tail which I found silly. It runs true to size unlike most Castelli. I always order a large in Castelli, although I'm a medium in other companies but the large was huge.

Love this vest!

I was initially skeptical of this little guy when I got it for Christmas. It's extremely lightweight, so I had some doubts that it would be very effective. However, it's great at blocking wind and rain, and keeps your core warm while letting your arms breathe. First time I unzipped it on a ride, I was shocked at how much cool air it had been blocking. In a heavy rain, it kept me comfortable enough to continue my ride, whereas a ride in similar conditions over the summer sent me rushing home with blue lips to take a hot bath. Folds up nicely in a jersey pocket for stowing as well.
I didn't find it too difficult to lift up and access my jersey pockets, a little more challenging than usual but not impossible.

This vest would get 5 stars IF I could get into my jersey pockets! I find it very cumbersome to access my jersey pockets whether on the fly or stopped, as the vest only zips down from the top, and has no rear pockets or rear access to your pockets. Trying to peel it up with long fingered or winter gloves is trying at best. Because of that I tend to save this vest for short rides only when digging for a snack is not an issue. Other then that, the fit, wind resistance and comfort are great. Now back to the drawing board to find a better desinged vest!
