Evoluzione 2 Short

In Castelli's world, entry level kit means something a bit different than what you might've been conditioned to think. Instead of ill-fitting garments made with low-end materials and few comfort-enhancing extras, kit like the Castelli Evoluzione 2 Short gives new riders a warm introduction to the world of cycling shorts. If you're self-sponsored and newly indoctrinated to the sport of skinny tires, the Evoluzione 2 will leave little to be desired as you build mileage and get to know your bike.

The Evoluzione's Kiss Air chamois may not offer the same featherweight silhouette as its higher-end siblings, but its rolling topography and plush cushioning provide the support you need to tackle longer rides and new routes without compressing after only a few miles. Day in and day out, the short's stabilizing, breathable nylon and polyester fabric blend move with you without stretching or bunching in the saddle, as it employs the same impeccable fit used throughout Castelli's illustrious line.

  • An entry-level bib short that doesn't sacrifice in comfort
  • Form-fitting cut follows your movements in the saddle
  • 2-layer ProDry Soft fabric rapidly transfers moisture
  • Extra-stretch side panel rolls out to a 360-degree leg band
  • Airy mesh bib sits subtly under a jersey
  • KISS chamois cushions and supports your sit bones
  • Reflective accents help you stay visible to motorists

Great short

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: Large

I typically wear tri shorts for all of my training and riding, as I frequently run off the bike, During COVID19, I find my self riding more - and longer distance. For the first time in many years I decided to get a pair padded bike shorts. I tend to prefer shorts (not bibs) and selected the Evoluzione 2 Short. I like Castelli products, this time is no different. The short has a good size pad (some that I tried just feel too big) and feels and fits well when riding. I will continue to use these short for training rides (when I do not run off the bike). Waist band is little thin but they stay up as needed. I like the shorts and would recommend them. I am 6'0" tall ~193lbs. and purchased size Large.

Good shorts very tight fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

I bought an XL thinking these were going to be too tight and could have bought a 2XL. I am 5’11” and 204lbs with a 34 in waist. These are so tight they almost cut off circulation in my legs. Product quality is fine but sizing is off quite a bit. I have several other pairs by other manufacturers and they are more size accurate. ZOIC, Gore etc...

Most Comfortable Shorts Ever

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Recently purchased these shorts after using Louie Garneau's that I bought at DICK's. It is a night and day difference between the two shorts. After using these for a few long rides, the chamois still retains it's thickness and comfortability. I find myself wanting to continue riding longer as my gooch area isn't being demolished.

Good basic road short

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I always have a couple of these riding shorts. I like my shorts to be form-fitting, and the Small size fits exactly like I need. There is enough excess short above the waist to roll it over; this mitigates what is a rather rough waistband when one does not tuck in one's shirt or wears a jersey (not designed to tuck in).

During long rides, these shorts stay comfortable throughout the ride and stay put where I want them to fit. They handle moisture well, and do not chafe even when well worn and old.

One problem mention by another reviewer: They could have more durable stitching. I would also mention that I've seen small changes for the better in the Evoluzione 2 every time I've needed to purchase new shorts, so I believe that they listen to their customers.

Overall, this Castelli short is well liked by this reviewer.

Mark, can I ask what size waist you wear? I'm sort of in-between small and medium.

Through the ringer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

They fit great and love the compression. Bought a size small I'm 5' 11" and 148 lbs and it fits well. Love the compression and chammy. My issues are with the waist band, it's not the most comfy and rubs as you ride. The stitching also doesn't seem to be the best. Am using them for the trainer so no too worried. Decent but not 4 star

Fits small

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: medium

I normally wear a MEDIUM. I ordered both a medium and a large. The medium was WAY too tight. Felt like it was cutting into my legs at the hems. The large fits me like a medium typically does. I have a bunch of Castelli jerseys and typically do not have to size up like a lot of people suggest but definitely would recommend you size up on this one.

Great Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I bought two pair to use on the trainer during the shoulder months and in the winter. They were deeply discounted because of the business with the elastic separating from the leg cuffs. Five minutes with aqua seal, set them aside overnight to let bond and dry. Next day, new shorts. They also fit perfectly. I'm 5'10" 160, medium is good and tight without being binding.

Leg grippers came off.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: Medium

Leg grippers on these shorts came off after 3 or 4 rides. Machine washed, but line dried, so not abused. Suggest everyone stay away from these shorts. Seems to be a common problem.

Elastic snap

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Bought these shorts to try out the brand before I invested in the more expensive shorts. The padding is great but the elastic is bad. I will only use these shorts on the trainer.

Go up 2 sizes

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: L and XL

I normally wear large and when tried on it was super tight. Returned it and got XL and still super snug. I have about a dozen other shorts in Large and all are perfect, but for some reason these are way too tight/small.

Size and quality

Medium fits well for 5'7" 160 lbs. Ordered two pair. One is good. The other has a stitching defect on the right side. I didn't detect defect within 30 days because I only tried one pair on upon receipt of product. I hope Competitive Cyclist does the right thing and provides a credit.

    Quality Issue As Well

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

Also experienced leg grippers de-laminating after 1 use. Too bad - nice design.

Great fit but beware quality issues

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

When I first got these and tried them on, I though they were the perfect pair of bike shorts. The fit was great and the padding stayed put where it needed to and didn't move around. However, in 10 days the elastic "leg gripper" ring on the cuff of the right leg started to come off. It looked like a stirrup hanging off the leg opening. I had only washed a couple times according to the directions so it was clear to me that it was some type of manufacturing defect. I returned these as defective and purchased the "Race Aero" version of the shorts which does not have the leg gripper band. The Race version is considerably more expensive but also a great pair of shorts. To me, the fit and feel of the Evoluzione was just as good, and I would have preferred it at the price point, but I probably won't buy another pair for fear of the elastic separation happening again.

Thanks for the feedback Jeffrey. We appreciate the honesty - glad you did find a pair that works.

    Good product

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Very nice. Well made. For me, the shorts are a little tight, especially around the leg grippers. Maybe a few more rides and washings will loosen them. I got a size L, and I'm about 5'11" and 165 lbs.

    quality oversight

missed stitches noted by manufacturer. I was disappointed that it was shipped to me anyways, in spite of these clearly marked problems.

      quality oversight

      Great short - very comfortable

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

      very comfortable and protective

      How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
