Castelli Arenberg Gel Gloves

A padded classic.

The thrill of tackling a dirt road or cobbled climb should be on every cyclist’s bucket list, and the Arenberg Gel Glove from Castelli moves you one step closer. Named after the particularly brutal cobbles in the Arenberg Forest, the gloves feature gel padding in the suede palm to help you tackle the bumps and twists you’ll find on your journey.

The half-finger design and the summer-weight mesh backing are ideal for preserving the feel of your fingers on the hoods and keeping your hands palms cooler as you explore new roads and rack up the miles.

Great Product

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I avoid wearing gloves when riding at all costs. However, the last gravel event I rode made it clear I couldn't get away with not wearing gloves all the time. I picked these up for the Vermont Overland race and was happy to have fresh hands all day over some very rough terrain. As someone who doesn't like gloves, I wanted a glove that protected my hands from vibration and fatigue but that wouldn't be annoying, for lack of a better word. These did exactly that and held up very well. They were also very breathable so my hands didn't sweat excessively throughout the day.. I am very happy with this product.

Instant Favorites!

Excellent comfort and style. Understated Hi-Viz, with really cool pad cover art. While riding, I don't even notice these gloves/thick padding...the sign of great gear! I've tried many brands. These are my go to favorites!
* I should add that the pad covers can become slippery when wet (w/ Lizard Skin bar tape)...hook your grip!

Great fit, but fragile

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These gloves are a perfect fit and the cushioning is in all the right spots. I have used them on a few 50+ mile rides and my hands feel great. My only critique is the stitching is starting to come undone on the top. I have fixed it once and am careful now when pulling them on and off.

Solid glove!

This glove feels great. The hems and stitching are not invasive in the least. The pads are not only comfortable, but are tacky and work great with my Lizard Skins bar tape. The material across the knuckles is very pliable. The giant, two-page tag inside the glove is obnoxious, but easily cut out. Overall, great product. Fits like a... glove. Ok, sorry, I'll show myself out now.

Best rendering of a gel glove I've seen

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I liked these so much, I have several pairs. The gel is thin, thinner than many other gloves I've used, but at the same time it is extremely effective. These gloves fit without being bulky, they pad and reduce vibration without losing the feeling of the bars.

Order your normal Castelli size.

Highly recommend these.

Avoid if it ever rains where you live

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The most epic editions of the Paris-Roubaix feature rain, when the cobbles of the Arenburg forest are slick with mud. So it is with great surprise that these gloves, named for the legendary sector, became downright dangerous when it began to rain during my first outing with them. The gel pads, which are awesome and sticky when they are dry, became as slick as ice when they got wet. Nothing like descending in the rain and finding that your gloves can no longer grip the handlebars! I could only maintain grip on my bars by squeezing very tight, and I removed them immediately when I got to the bottom. If you live in a desert climate or don't ever ride in the rain, these gloves are awesomely comfortable and fit very well. Otherwise, they are dangerous and you should not buy them. I bought them today and will return them tomorrow.

I've had problems with my hands and always look for padding first. So far I really like these gloves!
