Who's afraid of the big, bad wall?

Butora built the Tight Fit Altura Climbing Shoe for long days on big walls where you'll come across every style of climbing except maybe overhanging pitches. Its low asymmetry and flat profile assure comfort when you're jamming, smearing, and edging all day. The upper boasts a hydrovelour split leather that stretches to conform to your foot shape, while the odor-resistant organic hemp lining reduces stretching so you don't have a baggy pair of boots by the time your reach the summit.

Just like any crack climbing shoe, the Altura has a padded tongue and mesh lining to protect your forefoot from jagged rocks inside the crack. The moisture-wicking split leather footbed feels particularly wonderful in warmer weather, and the midsole offers moderate stiffness so you can edge, smear, and slab up tricky sections with supportive stability. The Butora rubber sole has a sharp edge for the occasional face move, and it's soft enough for you to get enough contact on slabs.

Better then the TC Pros?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These have performed very very well. They work well in all types of terrain. Sandstone cracks, granite cracks, slabs, edging, These are definitely on par with the TC Pros, but at a better price. These shoes are really comfortable. I can wear them all day with minimal pain. The pads over the heals are plushy nice when you have to get a little deeper in the crack. Overall I have loved climbing in these shoes and will be getting another pair in the future.

So Good!!

It came down to a third resole of my TC pros or new shoes. I’m glad I went with these shoes. I climbed with them in Yosemite for two weeks when they were barely broken in. There were some hotspots on the back of my ankles but the overall fit and comfort level are impressive.

The climb so well at my level (5.10a trad lead). Crack, edging and smearing have not been an issue. My feet never felt totally at home in my TC pros, that is definitely not the case here

    So Good!!

Awesome pic! Thanks for the review Andre!

    Boyfriend is stoked!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought these for my boyfriend, he needed another pair of trad shoes. He's stoked to take these out on multipitch routes and down to indian creek to see how they fair. He's used them in the gym once and says that he loves the ankle support and they climb similarly to TC pros. He's excited. Will update once he gets a few more uses out of them!

Cracks on Cracks on Cracks with an Edge

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love this shoe! Fits me like a sock! I can toe jam and smear away on the granite with total confidence and the maximum comfort allowed by a toe jam. It also has a solid edge that will let you stand on a nickel glued to the wall! The quality of the shoe is amazing down to every detail in the craftsmanship.

    Supportive and durable.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just started crack climbing in the past couple months and my prior trad shoes were not cutting it when it came to jamming my toes into the cracks and twisting them. So I invested in the Alturas. I have a thinner, more femme foot so this version fit me a lot better than the wide version. The way I knew this was that there were no air pockets between my feet and the side of the shoe. This is ideal so that you don't get blisters from rubbing when you're twisting into the wall. Anyway, These are perfectly designed to take the pain of what is crack climbing. There is a rubber piece that comes up over the toe so when I twist my foot, that absorbs a lot of the corner instead of bruising my toes. The sturdy ankle support is just tall enough that allows for me to move the way I want, but supports me when I'm practically standing on my ankles. If you're tired of hurting from crack, grab a pair of these next time you partake in the necessary evil.

Great for all day trad, wide stuff, and

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

I got these in my street shoe size and they fit perfect and snug. If you want to wear socks, go up a half size. I've been wearing mine for about 8 months and they haven't stretched at all. Rubber is sticky! Sexy shoe!

Awesome! Thanks so much for the review, and the sizing info, Arin.
