Punches well above its weight class.

Outperforming much larger speakers, the B&O Play A1 Portable Bluetooth Speaker projects an impressive 140-watts of peak power from its elegant spherical design. One of the A1's strongest suits is a surprisingly wide frequency range, which drops down to 60Hz for rich bass and up to 24,000Hz for crisp, clear highs. The A1's rounded aluminum grill and double-molded polymer base ensure rugged quality, with a leather strap for bringing the party everywhere you roam.

Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity streams music wirelessly from your favorite portable media device, with the option to connect older devices with its 3.5-millimeter input. The built-in speakerphone and mic enable wireless calls, as well as voice commands with Apple Siri and Google Now. The rimmed design around the A1's base ensures 360º voice recognition when you're taking calls wirelessly.

Another impressive feature is the 20-hour battery life when listening at lower levels. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery features intelligent charging that adapts its power thirst to the capacity of the USB port it's plugged into. This rapidly speeds up the charging process when you're using more powerful USB connections. The A1 comes with a USB-C charging cable for quickly powering up the speaker from a wide variety of USB ports.

Very good

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I already own a B&O A-1 (tangerine) I ordered from Amazon and was so impressed with the looks and sound, I'm ordering a second from Back country for stereo pairing. I can't comment on how much abuse the speaker can withstand but I can tell you it sounds remarkable. The only minor gripe is the controls and icons are a bit hard to see. I'm really picky about the quality of my music and this speaker does a remarkable job. Consider that I will have nearly $500.00 invested in a pair of these. I wouldn't drop that kind of cash on something crappy.
