Boost your carrying capacity.
The uptick in disc-equipped adventure and commuter options has ushered in a new generation of racking systems like the Blackburn Local Top Deck Assembled Rack, which leaves ample room for beefy calipers and disc rotors while securely carrying your cargo. Its adjustable width easily accommodates a wide range of axle standards, and it fits most adult-sized bikes with tires up to 700c x 37mm when mounted using a quick-release skewer. It clears even larger tires when using an eyelet installation.
The Local Top Deck can be installed as either a front or rear rack, and includes a light clip attachment point so you can add a dose of visibility to your ride. When the weather turns south, the solid construction of the top rack also doubles as a makeshift fender, protecting you from chilly road spray.
- A versatile bike rack compatible with disc brakes
- Adjustable width fits a wide range of axle and skewer lengths
- Universal swivel hardware mounts on most adult-sized bikes
- Light clip attachment point lets you add visibility
- 45lb carrying capacity covers most bike cargo needs
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Does the job. Installation wasn't as difficult as I've seen other people mention across the web. However, I was not pleased to find out that I would ultimately need to saw off some extra length on two of the connecting pieces. It's not necessary, but looks a bit ridiculous if you don't do it. This isn't personal preference either, but an actual step in the instructions. I've also noticed that in the first few weeks of using, that heavy loads on the rack would cause the screws to come loose and rattle. I constantly have to tighten them, but I'm sure locktight would do the trick. Besides all of that - it looks good and clean, stays somewhat sturdy, and works for getting me and my bag around town.
For the price, this rack is a great addition to my old multi-colored Specialized Hard Rock. I was easily able to rig up a crate using some ski straps and now the bike has a ton of storage for around town. The installation wasn't the easiest or the most straight-forward, hence my 4-star review, but overall wasn't too painful.
