    OvalWire Carabiner

The birth of the OvalWire came about from Black Diamond's desire to produce a low-profile, lightweight and easily clippable biner for aid climbers. Lighter and less bulky than Ovals, the OvalWire has a wire gate that resists gate whiplash, won't freeze up and is easy to clip. Sharing all of the same qualities as Black Diamond's classic Ovals, the wiregate versions are lower in profile and lighter. This means they can be piled on a rack with reckless abandon. A great biner for aid climbers who require an inexpensive, yet high-tech oval biner.

    • Lightweight oval carabiner for racking stoppers, slings, and cams
    • Thinner body than the classic Oval reduces bulk and lowers weight
    • Wire gate resists whiplash and freezing in cold alpine conditions
    • Proven symmetrical design offers large capacity for nuts and pins

    Quality Wire Biners

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got some of these to use for racking my gear while trad climbing. I really like how it is easy to access my gear with the wire gate, and they are also very light. They are offered at a great price and these have definitely become my go to. Wire gate for racking gear.

    Affordable ovalwires.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Needed a couple simple ovalwires to add to my glacier/crevasse rescue kit and these are just the ticket. Super affordable, simple, and i can use them with gloves on.

    Simple and Functional

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm not a huge climber but I picked up this 'biner to use while ski mountaineering and backpacking. I mainly use it store small items on gear loops. It works great but sometimes it can get hung on the nose like others have previously mentioned. Pretty basic design with everlasting Black Diamond quality.

I'd rather have a key lock

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I seem to catch the nose on this biner too often. It works, but I'd rather spend a couple bucks more for a key lock version.

I keep my nuts on it

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great beaner for accessing nuts easily

    Great for racking stuff

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have several of these ovals and they're great for racking nuts. You have a lot of space to work with since the carabiner is large. They're thin and lightweight too.

    good for racking gear

I use this ‘biner mostly for racking nuts, tricams, small cams, etc. It is lightweight and can carry a lot of gear. The drawback is that it snags on wires, and that the gate could be stiffer.

      Big Wallers Rejoice !!

These biners are the bees knees for aid routes. The claim to a narrower profile is not just propaganda, it's the gospel truth Brothers and Sisters! These are remarkably more narrow in profile than standard ovals, which means you can stack them up on your harness like there's no tomorrow. The difference in weight is noticeable, also. Take 20 of these clipped together in one hand and compare the weight to 20 standard ovals in the other. You will be a believer! The only improvement I would LOVE to see is a keylock gate which would make these the ultimate racking biner. The price is right, too.
