Black Diamond Mission Jacket - Women's
Black DiamondMission Jacket - Women's

A quiver of one shell.

The Black Diamond Women's Mission is the jacket you want whether you're skiing in the resort on a storm day or finding the best snow in the backcountry. Made with a waterproof, breathable three-layer Gore-Tex shell, fully taped seams, and a burly 70D nylon face, the Mission thrives whether you're using and abusing it inbounds, or navigating a brushy approach in the backcountry.

You'll find everything you need for a full day of tram laps or skintracks on the Mission Jacket. Two large, two-way underarms zips dump heat when you're hoofing it to the top of your line, while the helmet-compatible hood offers additional protection when the wind is moving snow and cold air around. Inside the jacket is a stretch powder skirt for added protection from the snow, while two skin-compatible mesh pockets provide a place to warm up skin glue before it's time to head back up the skintrack. The relaxed fit of the Mission offers plenty of space to add extra layers during really cold days, without being too bulky when you're wearing the jacket with just a baselayer beneath it. BD partnered with Cohaesive to allow for easy, on-the-go cord management at the hood and hem, so you can lock the jacket down tight whether you're riding up a cold and windy chairlift, or skinning up a high and windy ridge in the backcountry.

Perfect Shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: XS

My wife usually freezing while skiing and even though this is not insulated, it's a fantastic shell that keeps the wind and moisture out. With a few layers under on the really cold days it was what she needed. The length of the sleeves and torso are perfect. Price may be a little high but for a full Gore-Tex shell that's going to last forever, it's worth it.

Great Ski Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Great ski jacket for both the resort and the backcountry - lightweight, functional, very waterproof and breathable while also being warm at the same time. Definitely no insulation on this jacket and is a great ski shell, but will need to layer well on colder days. Otherwise would highly recommend, Black Diamond makes well-fitting apparel that is true to size.

The Perfect Shell

Used this shell for some high alpine touring in Tuolumne , Yosemite this winter - we started hiking up the trail in the pouring rain - then after a few hours the rain turned to snow and POW-land. Nevertheless, this jacket kept me warm and dry in all sorts of weather.

This is a great shell. The fit and design are well thought out and very nice. Something that stands out to me compared to other women's shells is that the wrists are wide enough to easily fit over all gloves without looking bulky, they cinch down easily to keep the snow out as well. The gore tex does a great job of keeping the elements at bay and is supple enough that it doesn't have a loud crinkly sound. I can wear a L or M depending on the cut of most shells and found the M to fit great. It allows for plenty of freedom of movement and layers but doesn't look oversized. The Cohaesive adjustment is a nice touch as well. I like not having to deal with the traditional toggle adjustments.

It's lightweight, packable, and waterproof, making it perfect for the backcountry. The long pit zips make it perfect for quick breathability. It still works great with an extra layer or two on cold days and days at the resort. It fits well (I'm 5'9" and purchased a medium) and is very durable, however the plastic zipper seems like it could break eventually.
