No alpine adventure is complete without it.

Every little bit of warmth is precious when you're in the alpine. Black Diamond designed the Forge Hoodie to retain warmth on ice-cold alpine walls, wind-blasted ridges, and frigid transitions. While incredibly warm, down can be tricky to wear in a storm because it loses its insulating properties once it gets wet. Black Diamond put a DWR treatment on the 700-fill down and the Pertex Microlight fabric for some protection from light precipitation. Underarm gussets give you a wide range of motion on the ascent, and the whole jacket stows in its chest pocket with a carabiner loop so you can easily clip it to your harness or stuff it in your pack when the sun pokes out.

  • A lightweight insulator for adventures in the alpine
  • 700-fill RDS certified goose down is warm and compressible
  • DWR treatment on Pertex Microlight fabric deflects moisture
  • Helmet-compatible hood for extra protection
  • Underarm gussets offer ample mobility while climbing and hiking
  • Stows in chest pocket with carabiner loop for attaching to harness
  • With a mission to bring high-quality climbing and ski gear to the public, Black Diamond has been driving the industry since 1957

Great value!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Not quite as impressive as my TNF, Patagonia, or MHW jackets, but for the price, I'm satisfied. Not crazy about the tan color, but that isn't critical. 4 stars!

lightweight, comfortable and WARM!

What more do you want in a jacket? The person that I got it for hardly ever takes it off.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I could not be more pleased with this jacket. I got this jacket as an alternative to my Mountain Hardware Stretch Down - however I am finding this my go to. It is nice and warm but the breathabillity is great. I can really wear this in all weather as I do not overheat during the Indian Summer we have been having, but is stands up and keeps me warm during some nasty storms. Good job BD.
