Built around a generous 40-liter main compartment and a dual-access design, it swallows a full day of climbing gear — double rack, 70-meter rope, helmet, shoes, draws, and the rest — and still closes cleanly for the approach.

Black Diamond built the Crag 40L to handle the rough reality of life at the cliff. The 1260D ballistic nylon bottom stands up to abrasive sandstone, sharp granite edges, and the general abuse of a pack that lives at the base of routes. A top cinch closure opens wide for fast loading, and the side-panel zipper lets you pull out exactly what you need without unpacking everything above it. The top flap doubles as an integrated rope strap to cinch a coiled rope directly to the outside when you need the interior for other gear. Padded shoulder straps, an adjustable sternum strap, and a padded hip belt keep the load comfortable on longer approaches, while the front zippered pocket and internal organizer handle the small stuff — keys, tape, balm, guidebook — so nothing gets buried at the bottom.
