    Carbon Whippet Ski Pole

Black Diamond's original Whippet took mountaineers and backcountry skiers by storm when it was first released, and this season sees the first upgrades since its inception. The Carbon Whippet Ski Pole's new carbon construction is perhaps the smallest update this season, although it's certainly worth mentioning how light and durable the carbon lower shaft feels. Perhaps the biggest upgrade is the removable steel pick, because skiing downhill with a whippet goes against that "running with scissors" rule you learned when you were younger.

    • Ski pole with detachable steel pick for mountaineering and touring
    • Carbon lower shaft keeps the pole light and surprisingly durable
    • FlickLock Pro adjusts the pole in various lengths
    • ClickLock Dial secure pick to pole when it's time to climb

Seems solid, but I was sent a used pole

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The pole seems solid and the idea is great, will be a great pole. I do wish it collapsed a bit smaller for packing purposes. Except it’s pretty obvious that the pole sent to me was used and then returned to backcountry, and then subsequently sent to me.

    Love These Poles

      Love these poles

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These poles are the best ski poles I've ever owned. The carbon fiber lower makes them extremely light. The ability to remove the whippet is awesome, sometimes you don't even want it with you. I would recommend these to anyone wanting a good pair of backcountry poles.

      Awesome Piece of Gear

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I totally love the ability to remove the axe from the pole during your approach. Once you finally get to your objective, You can screw the axe feature onto the pole in a matter of seconds. Super easy to use. Perfect piece of gear for anybody going into any sort of boot-pack, self arrest, terrain.

      Detachable version is an upgrade!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Purchased this as a gift for father in law. This is an upgraded version than what I currently use with the detachable ice pick. Super light weight for backcountry travel.

      Whippet Good!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had my BD whippet for 4 seasons now. It's light, adjustable and has a solid feel. There's not really much else you can ask for in a whippet. This is my go-to for spring skiing and any BC line that might have you shaking in your boots.

      They did it, finally.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For years, my greatest fear has been the fear of stabbing myself in the leg with my whippet. Fear no longer. This updated whippet features a removable whippet head that screws into the pole. When removed the pole looks and acts as a normal ski pole.

The whippet drops into the top of the ski pole and is screwed into place. There is ZERO play when tightened down.

The benefit of not having to tour for thousand of feet, or miles, unnecessarily with the whippet on the top of your pole is the simplest achievement with this update. Throw the whippet head in your pack and pull it out when you need it.

I put this thing through the works at the end of last season and can say i have yet to find a downside.

      Whippet, whippet good!
