This one gets an A from a 6' tall lady

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Med

So, it's not an A+, because yes I have a booty and this runs tight through the hips. I keep the back vent unsnapped, and often I just use the snaps and reserving the zipper for if it's really cold,, leaving the lowest snap unsnapped, and that gives my boot room to move on my walks and hikes.
I have athletic shoulders too, so I went through more than a dozen coats until I found this one. Many coats I was in a large due to my height and shoulder width, but in this coat the medium gives me plenty of shoulder room sleeve length (due to the interior cuffs).
I love the navy, and the very room hood that allow for another hat underneath (or ski helmet perhaps!). The fabric and lining are rather luxurious feeling and the pockets are SO handy. Well done!

Out of my expectation

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Really like the Olive color that looks young & stylish. Material & cutting make me slim. Many pockets facilitate me to put my mobile & wallet. The detachable faux fur can be removed when the weather is sometimes not so chilly in Hong Kong.

So good i got it twice

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Basin and Range has undergone a great metamorphosis. With the new focus on women and style they have hit the nail on the head. This jacket is not only warm as all get out, it is super cute. For the price you cant ask for more.

I am a dog mom and go on winter walks often. The pockets on this jacket allow me to carry, hand warmers, doggie bags, my leash, my wallet, my phone, and so much more. It has in total 6 pockets and is very good at concealing all the belongings i may carry.
The jacket runs true to my regular t shirt size, with room to wear another sweater underneath. I am 5'3" and wear a S, i ordered a S and it hits right above my knees.

It is so loved in my family, that i gave my sister one for Christmas!

super cute

I love this coat. It's perfect for those snow Utah days. I love the dual zipper so i can adjust how far the zipper goes down. It runs pretty true to size, i am a 8-10 dress size and the medium fit perfectly but I do have to mention its fitted on the hips, but with the dual zipper that helps remedy it to not restrict movement. I'm 5'8''and it hits me at mid thigh. The 'fur' hood is large but the 'fur' is detachable if you don't like it.

I wanted to love this jacket

  • Size Bought: Medium

I was super psyched to get this jacket. Its a great price and super cute. And I did really like it until .... it ripped. Just from picking something up in the store.
However theres something about the ergonomics on the fit that when I bent over it ripped. A jacket shouldn't do that. It should be durable. And Im not a huge person :)

Hey Kaitlin, Thanks for taking the time to write this review. I'm sorry the jacket ripped so quickly! I just left you a voicemail to help finish up your warranty process. Give me a call or shoot me an email at the contact info listed above.

I. LOVE. THIS. COAT.

This is Tyson's wife. And full disclosure, the fit is kind of weird (as others have said below). The hips are tight and the shoulders are roomy, but I remedy this by just using the outside buttons instead of the zip if I'm doing something where I need more room to move around. I don't even notice the fit anymore really. I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this sense. It's so incredibly warm and cozy, and I feel like I'm wearing a high-quality coat. Let's talk about the pockets. There are pockets for days on this thing. I zipped off the fur lining and it still looks fine. I get tons of compliments on this coat.

Cold zippers - really wanted to LOVE it

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

Fits well and true to size, love the style and the inside snaps to make the jacket more fitted. i added a packable down sweater to test for size, and was very comfortable. I think anyone will look good in this jacket. Zipper only goes up to a few inches above the bottom of the upper thigh high jacket, cold air may flow upward. The zipper to top rests on your chin, so its cold and not comfortable - with that said, great metal zippers, very smooth. I also did not like the large hood, the fur felt cheap and not soft, zip off the fur, and the coat becomes quite plain. Unfortunately I had to return it.

Almost perfect

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: XS

As a few other people mentioned in their reviews of this jacket, the fit is a bit weird. No room at the hips and really big in the shoulders. I tried XS and S - small was reeallly bulky and the sleeves were very long. the XS fit perfectly at the top but could barely zip around my hips. I'm 5'3" and 124 lbs, fuller hips and small top. Other than the fit, the jacket is beautiful, well designed, looks durable and especially warm. Would be great for a different body type but not mine. Bummer!!!

Classy and Cozy

I really love this jacket. I've used it in the snow and in the rain. I love the many pockets and removable "fur". Being able to take the fur off during rain and put it on during the snow makes a ton of difference. I appreciate the waist strap on the inside that makes the coat a little more fitted. The cuffs also extend past the end of the sleeve and help keep me warm! The material is great and feels high quality. It's a really great coat and I get a ton of compliments on it! :)

Pretty Good

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

  • Size Bought: s

I really liked this coat. It does run large though. The annoying thing about is however is that the when the coat is closed, the zipper is cold and sits on your face which is kinda annoying when its cold out.

Odd Fit

  • Size Bought: Xs

I was really excited that this coat had a durable shell. I bought it to replace my down coats that I wear throughout the cold Michigan winters. I am 5’2” 110 pounds so I went with xs...and it was too big in some areas, too small in others. Overall the fit was just weird. I had to squeeze my legs together to zip it at the bottom and it was uncomfortably tight waist down. However, from the waist up it was baggy and way too big. I’m sad that it’ll have to go back. I did really like the details and that it felt warm and high quality.

Super Warm, Figure Flattering!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

  • Size Bought: XS

I've been eyeballing this parka for quite some time -- I have a lot of technical puffy and shell jackets, none of which are a neutral color or go past my hips, so I wanted something more casual that I could wear as an every day winter coat without colors clashing.

After comparing several other parkas and coats, I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Wingate. Price was ultimately the deciding factor along with reviews/looks, and I'm really happy that I chose this one!

This parka is hands down one of the warmest coats i have ever worn. The down insulation helps regulate heat, and the outer material is excellent at repelling wind. Plus the sleeves on the inside act as an extra insulating layer/comfy factor. The length of it is another reason why it's so warm -- my legs and bum have zero complaints about being covered up!

I am not a huge fan of a fur hood, so I was really glad to have the option to remove it. There are also loads of pockets -- I do wish the ones on the outside were just a little less wide but otherwise they are great for stowing my iPhone and wallet (I hate carrying a purse)!

Along with all that, I've gotten compliments from women/men alike on a daily basis! So you'll be feeling cozy warm and confident in the Wingate for sure.

Cons: This jacket definitely runs larger than I expected it to. If you have small shoulders like I do, the back of the arms will sit out a little bulky. And if you are short like I am, the sleeves will be just a little long but if you push them up a little they tend to stay in place -- the hem also sits closer to the knees than in the model photo. Though, after asking many people including those who have complimented the coat, they've all said that it doesn't "look big" and that it looks like it's supposed to be a long/trench coat style. So it's not a huge deal as it worked out for the better, but I think Basin and Range should definitely consider people with smaller frames when they make the next model of the Wingate!

(Side note: I purchased this in Navy and I love the color. It stands out a little from the traditional black coats and it's a really sleek tone. One thing I noticed was that in the model photo for the Navy colorway, they forgot to remove the white protective paper from the pullcords! So they won't be white -- but black like the Khaki and Charcoal colorways).

Super Warm, Figure Flattering!

Great, but not for me.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I am pretty impressed with this jacket. The color I got was the charcoal one and it's super cool. The material is spot on and it seems to be pretty warm. My only complaint is how it fits. I found that it does run big. The pocket jet out at the waste which isn't the most flattering and the shoulders were quite big for me. It just didn't fit me well, so I'm not hating on it. Impressed with Basin and Range, especially for the price point.

My mom loves it

For the price this jacket is pretty amazing. It is going to be super similar to any North Face jacket and competes very well.

    Crossroad of cost and Quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This jacket is a little cheaper than some of the competition. but it sacrifices nothing. The quality of this jacket is awesome.

    Gorgeous Toasty Cost

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love the color of this coat and the pocket and zipper details. I never worry about being cold when I have this coat. The hood is adorable. I wear a medium and the only thing I have noticed about this coat is that it is snug around the hips. I have to pull it up to zipper and button it but once I have it done up, I can pull it back down and it fits great. It makes the coat snug and toasty.

Good but a could use some tweaking.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

I have been looking for warm, affordable winter jacket for a couple of years. I got the olive and I love the color. It is a good weight and I love that it is long so it covers my butt. I live in the northeast so we have some brutal cold this winter. I am 5” 9” so a lot of the jackets I looked at were too short. I ordered the XL. As with someone else’s review, I find the sleeves are tight - I am active and I have a little bulk in my biceps and I have broad shoulders. Again, I find it pretty snug across the shoulders. Not really any room for layers comfortably underneath. The other thing is that the hood is very deep which is good but the fur gets in my eyes so I may have to trim it - yes I know I can remove the fur but I like it. I have had several people compliment me that the jacket is stylish. So far it has kept me toasty warm. As I mentioned, I wish they had added a couple of inches across the shoulders and the sleeves were a slightly roomier but overall I am pleased with it. It also helps that I got it on sale.

    Great for the price

I was looking for a (responsibly sourced) down waterproof parka and was about to give up on finding something affordable. Then I found this jacket and was pretty stoked, so I waited for it to go on sale then bought it.

    Pros:
    - Down and waterproof, nice colors, removable fur trim, split in back for movement, double zipper, warm material inside pockets, lots of pockets, affordable, solid construction, thick elastic cuffs, hood is great for windy days

    Cons:
    - bulkier and boxer than I was expecting*, stacked front pockets add excess bulk to hip area, drawstring at waist doesn't do much//wide fit around waist, not as warm with the damp cold**, hood snaps pop off a bit too easily, no guard between cold metal zipper & chin

I'm not sure if I would personally size down on this one, because it fits well in my (broad) shoulders, I wouldn't want it any tighter in my hips, and the length is nice. There's just way too much space in the waist (it doesn't feel very tapered to me). Good if you carry your weight around the middle, but I have an athletic build and my waist is relatively small, while my weight is more in my hips and thighs. I ended up putting knots in the drawstring to get it tighter around the waist but it bunches up because of the extra fabric. Overall I think I'll keep it because the price is hard to beat and it is nice and warm.

*there were different model pictures when I first bought it, making the jacket look much more flattering than it really is. The more recent model photos seem a bit more realistic
** I needed layers under it for a mid-30s day in Portland, OR -- but in 15-degree weather in Cleveland with a windchill, I was fine.

My favorite winter coat by far!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

I have been wearing this jacket for several months and I cannot believe the amount of compliments I receive on a daily basis. The most impressive thing about the coat is the attention to detail; I especially love the 2 way zipper for getting in and out of cars. The leather accents adds a splash of color to match back to my footwear, and the faux fur trim is useful and well made. I gave one to my mom for Christmas, that's how much I love it!

    Great for tall girls...

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: M

I am returning the coat because it just didn’t work for my shape, but still wanted to write a review on the quality. This is a beautiful coat, the interior quilting and exterior shell will definitely keep you warm and dry, and the leather zipper pulls and extra strip of material inside the flap show the attention to detail. The only negative for me was the fit...although there is an interior adjustment for the waist, it was actually too stretchy, and even at its smallest, was still quite loose. For reference, I am 5’7”, 145, 36/29/40. I chose the medium, which JUST fit my hips, but was quite large in the waist & shoulders. Sleeves are usually a bit short on me, but these were a little long. I would recommend this coat for the quality without reservation...and would say it would be perfect for someone tall, with a more athletic build (broader shoulders & straight hips)...now off to continue my search for the perfect winter coat.
