Yes ...sizes run larger!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

this jacket the sleeves hung down over my wrists covering up my palms. Yikes! At first, thought of keeping the jacket as being able to throw it on over my layers to warm up after summiting but decided I'd rather have one that fits better ...even if I've got to strip down a layer. In process now returning it. >>>Quality wise it looked great did not notice any feather creep or defects! ...my 2-cents.

Better quality than 1st run of these

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

The cut of this jacket really works for me. However, the medium was just too tight in the arms and the chest. Also, the "dark denim" is brighter than was rendered on my monitor, and I prefer more muted colors. The quality of this newer version seems well ahead of their first run. I bought, at the same time, a size large hooded version of the previous batch in black/olive, and the cut/color/sizing was just perfect. However, the quality of that one was laughably shoddy... leaking feathers everywhere, stitching unraveling, and the one I received had an obvious 1/4 inch tear in the arm that was barfing fill. The comment below that they resolved the stitching issues in v.2 of this jacket do ring true, but that alone won't solve the face fabric also allowing feathers through at a high rate. All that said... if they have solved that, and you get the right size, this has potential to be a great deal.

Great Fit

Love this jacket, great for around town and as a layer.

Nice fit, good down, but poor stitching

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S

Style is nice, and the S size is really workable for me. The 800 goose down is pretty warm in winter season of southeast China ( around 0°C, 70% humidity normally ). But the stitching is poor though, after few weeks wearing, the down just came out of many parts of the garment, sleeves, shoulder, back, even front without any pressure on it as I wear it for everyday job. If Backcountry wants to get credit from this new brand, i think you should focus on improving the garment making a lot, like the stitches per inch, and the type of needle your factory use!

Gave it as a gift and recipient loves it

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this as a christmas gift and the recipient loved it. It kept him pretty warm without adding a lot of bulkiness!

    Lacking Durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XL

Positives - Comfy, stylish, larger fit, warm, hoodie

Negatives - very weak exterior, i.e., lacks durability

On my very first day of wearing the jacket I took a fall in the snow. Surprisingly, I later discovered that it caused two tears in the polyester exterior. I do a lot of outdoor stuff (rockclimbing, hiking, biking, etc) and was looking for a reliable down jacket to keep me warm. It did keep me warm, but seems to tear way too easily, wayyyy too easily. I definitely wouldn't recommend taking this jacket on an outdoor adventure. You may have better luck in the city, but dont take a fall in the snow. Best of luck.

Backcountry thankfully was able to exchange the jacket for a new one. I am happy with the customer service, but dissatisfied with the product.

    Ripped Elbow

Took a fall in the snow and the elbow ripped..first day of use

    Ripped Elbow

    Great fit, nice and warm

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Bought as a gift and the fit was spot on.

    Gifts

I purchased two of these, one for my father and one for my brother, so far they love them. Light weight, super warm, perfect for those upstate NY winters.

      Not true to size

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Small

Nice jacket, but not true to size..small on top and it gets bigger going down..if you are overweight and have a big gut then it will fit perfectly.

      Unanswered Question

Hi, I was wondering what the fill weight is for this jacket? I know that is is 800 fill power, but the fill weight is not listed; I.e. How many ounces of 800 fill power down is stuffed into this coat.
      Thanks!

      perfect fit

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: M

love this jacket. It has a perfect fit (for me). Slim, without being tight. A good alternative to The North Face Thermoball, which I found to be a little boxy of a cut.

how is the sleeve length? I am guessing this material doesn't have much stretch, which can exacerbate arms that are too short, which is the problem I typically have with puffy jackets.

What is the weight of this jacket?

Howdy, the medium size is going to weigh in at 14oz. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or would like help putting in an order for one! You can reach me at cojohnson@backcountry.com or my direct line 801.204.4547. Best, Connor
