Awkward shape, but super duper comfy

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I want to adore these pants. Truthfully I have bought these twice now. First time to compare to another Basin & Range pant (and decided I didn't need either), and recently this second time because I couldn't remember why I didn't like them the first time. And now...I remember.

The Good:

The material is stretchy, light, breathable yet has a nice weight to it (so it doesn't hug and cling those not-so-toned areas when the wind blows them against your skin).

They look similar to the Prana Uptown Pants, from the angles and photos on here. BUT, in person, the Prana's do not taper so drastically in a sharp angle.

A jogger fit typically is wider in the thighs and gradually tapers down and cinches at the ankle or comes down to a straight, rolled fit. (which is what the Prana Uptown Pants do, perfectly, delicately following the curve of the body subtly).

Unfortunately, these (at least in the Large size it is VERY noticeable) start with GIANT thighs. Now, I have bigger thighs and I like a little roominess in my joggers, but these are SUPER roomy in the make-you-look-bigger way. Then they sharply taper down to your ankles and the hem is a very tight, not so stretchy, ankle fit. Not a cinch. A narrow, ankle fit. So, you have Giant, Ballooning Thighs and then this sharp cut down to your (skinny in my case) ankles.

Ladies, I do not have to tell you this is not flattering.

I tried rolling them up to ankle-beach look...Nope, terrible look.

I tried pulling them up to the knees and letting the excess fold over like harems pants...nope, giant balloon thigh-pants that stop at the knees...I look more like Fog-Horn Leg-Horn like this.

So sadly, in the Large size...the cut of these pants were the downfall.

Everything else about them in great.

They run true to size, but in this day-and-age I guess that means they run "Large". For comparison sake, they run true to Prana sizing but Basin & Range give ladies a bit more room in the thigh area. Afterall, they are based in Park City where athletes have...athletic thighs.

5 stars to Basin & Range for sizing their clothes to the shapes of women with muscle and shape without just adding extra fabric.

4 stars for fabric choice and attempted design...

but 3 stars to this awkward shape for my body specifically. (Maybe with longer legs you wouldn't notice as much)

If you don't care about what it looks like, buy these and you will love them. But if you are going for style & function, and have shorter legs....beware.

Just right

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this for the wife and she loves it not too tight and still can wear it to work and at home .

Super comfy

A very comfortable pair of pants. I use it all the time since I got them. Very unassuming yet looks decent enough to wear for a quick errand to the store.

Athleisure at it's finest

I love these pants! So much so, that every time I come home I change out of jeans or leggings into these. The material is nice and lightweight, so it will be perfect for summer and winter lounging. The fit is very flattering at hits at the perfect length of my shorter legs, (I have a 27 inch inseam). The stylish pleats below the waist also allow you to dress them up a bit to wear out and about. Although I do love them, there are a few additions that could make them even better! First, I wish the back pocket had a zipper closure, so that at least somewhere on these pants you could safely stow a key or phone while out and about. Secondly, I wish the bottom hem had a more permanent roll-up on it, or maybe small snaps or something to keep them rolled up so they don't unroll. And finally, the waist band is nice, but the top of it does not hug your hips as well, making it flare out a bit. This isn't a huge deal, but having a waist band that keeps the drawstrings, but has more of a legging-style of waist band would be awesome. Regardless of those small changes, these are still my favorite pants.

They are OK.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got these as a gift for my wife who is a nurse. I wanted to get her a comfortable pair of pants for wearing around the house that looked presentable enough to wear outside. They do the job but I wouldn't buy them unless they were on sale.

They remind her of her hospital scrubs, which isn't really a good thing.

My aunt wonders...

I got these for my aunt, and let me clarify, I think they are rad. Her first response was, "what are they for?" Here is the deal, they are for lounging, maybe some yoga, and really just chilling. So if you are in need of some basic flowy chilling pants, these are for you. If you don't relax, ever, go get some vintage rigid heavy denim.

Very comfy.

Its a very comfy pants to wear. It slightly run large but the drawstring help the secure the pants nicely. The fabric is highly breathable and light. Its stylish and I do recommend this for hiking or just for city cruising.

Look great and also comfortable!

Just bought these and they are super comfortable, but still look dressy enough to wear to work! I like to wear them cuffed with sandals or retro sneaks. The drawstring waist is awesome and the fabric does not wrinkle.
