Better than a pumpkin spice latte.

It's tough to keep your anticipation for winter in check when the high peaks get their first dusting of snow and the aspens start to turn a bright yellow. But before you start waxing your skis, get outside to enjoy the changing leaves with the Basin and Range Men's Rancher Primaloft Jacket. Between its high-pile lining and Primaloft insulation, the Rancher provides the perfect amount of warmth for those brisk fall days you split between mornings at your favorite mountain town café and leaf-looking from the comfort of the chairlift. And when it finally is time to wax your skis, the Rancher's canvas-like nylon fabric will withstand a little wear and tear from those evenings spent crouched over the tuning bench.

  • A durable jacket for fall festivities
  • Primaloft insulation provides warmth without bulk
  • Hand and chest pockets keep essentials close by

Great Fit and Warm!

Read many reviews criticizing the sizing of this coat but the sizing was perfect for me. The cuffs are tight but that’s exactly what I love about this coat. The coat keeps me warm and stylish in 30+ degree temperatures. I recommend!

Love the jacket; hate the fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: small

This jacket is beautiful and has the exact look I wanted, but unfortunately as others have mentioned the fit is very strange. The chest and arms are very slim. The jacket is tight around my armpits and the arms are skin tight as well (not sure who could possibly use the second sleeve cuff button). If you have a larger upper body, you'll want to size up, but the issue with that is the bottom half of the jacket is cut very loosely. The jacket looks great on me unzipped, but if I zip it up it looks incredibly boxy on me, and I'm not a fan of the shorter front and larger back. I think there's probably some body types out there that this would work perfectly for, but for the vast majority of people it won't.

Aside from the fit, this jacket is good for 50-60 degrees by itself. It's definitely heavier than I had expected, and I'm happy with the warmth it provides on its own.

Wanted to like it, size up

Really like the look of this jacket. I own a basin and range flannel in a medium and it fits great. I ordered this jacket in a medium and it looked awesome in person, however it runs quite small. Sleeve length was good, It was a little tight in the chest and shorter in the front than I would have liked.

The big issue is the cuffs. They have to be undone every time when putting on or taking off the jacket. This on the largest setting, the smallest setting would likely turn into a tourniquet if it was possible to clasp. I don't have big hands or wrists, honestly on the smaller side of the scale. Big time design flaw. If you order make sure to size up and hopefully it works out. Large wasn't available when I ordered.

This is a great looking jacket and the interior sherpa lining makes it cozy while adding a extra bit of warmth. It's got primaloft insulation so is warm, but it is definitely intended to be more of a transitional jacket, perfect for Fall/Spring. The jacket does run on the smaller side so make sure to size up.

    Stylish and Casual Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

The Basin and Range Rancher Jacket has a great balance of weight, comfort, and casual functionality. The nylon exterior attracts lint and dust, however lends to it's relatively light weight feel. Internally, the body and cuffs are lined with a high pile fleece, that rests comfortably on the body. There are two internal pockets with this jacket, with a large high pile fleece lined elasticized pocket on the bottom right side of the jacket with a substantial pocket that should easily accommodate a pair of gloves, a large phone, and other smaller tools and trinkets simultaneously. The smaller internal pocket opens close to the main zipper pull, and can accommodate a large phone or a compact notebook and pens. The external chest pocket is roughly the same size, with both zippered pockets featuring soft touch materials (non high pile). All of the zipper pulls are YKK.

The fit is trim and modern, and it looks great dressed up or down. The main gripe is the size of the cuffs. I have very small wrists for a male, yet I have to squeeze the clasp to get the cuffs to secure. There is no way for me to secure past the loosest closure, and with my very small wrists it fits me well, but may not fit regular wrists easily, particularly if you are wearing flannel underneath (which in my case will ride farther up the arm).

The jacket is not overly warm per my personal preference, and isn't intended for anything more than the lightest of inclement precipitation. It does a good job at mitigating wind, as I have currently worn this in 12-15mph winds with minimal feel.

Overall I would highly recommend this jacket for those looking for a casual, comfortable jacket with a modest weight and decent insulation. The nylon exterior look very much looks like a canvas material, but with a lighter weight and softer feel. As noted, the jacket seems to run a tad smaller than I anticipated.

    Excellent jacket!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got this jacket for my boyfriend and it's great. It took a while to be shipped and delivered but we are glad we waited! The inside lining is really nice and keeps him warm. There are a ton of pockets on both the outside and inside of the jacket. It also does fairly well in the rain, the water beaded up and came right off.

    Favorite Fall Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    • Size Bought: XXL

Purchased this style for my husband and it's one piece of his wardrobe we both love. It has Primaloft insulation through the body and the arms.. Also Sherpa in the cuffs and body-warm without the bulk. I ended sizing up he has broad shoulders but the XXL looks great on him!
