Perfect for après-ski style and protection when you're hunting down the best restaurant for dinner, the Basin and Range New Wingate Down Jacket keeps you warm when the winter nights on the town get cold. Encased in a durable nylon shell that blocks the biting gusts of wind, this insulated jacket features a lofty down filling that traps your body heat without weighing you down, as well as a thigh-length cut for extra coverage. A detachable faux fur trim helps block the wind chill, but can be easily removed for a more streamlined look, while four generous pockets keep your hands warm and your valuables close by.

  • Insulated jacket for staying toasty around town or after skiing
  • Lofty down offers a high warmth-to-weight ratio that packs well
  • Insulated hood keeps your ears warm on blustery days
  • Adjustable storm cuffs seal out the stormy weather
  • Removable faux fur trim adds a touch of urban styling
  • Basin and Range designs are inspired by your mountain lifestyle

Warm, weird fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: S

I have a boxy frame, wider shoulders, small butt and hips. This jacket is SO cute but definitely size up. I feel good in the shoulders, could maybe use some more room and it is V snug around my hips and backside. Otherwise very warm and I like that the fur can come off!

Hygge to the Max!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Xl

I bought this coat impulsively since my current down winter jacket had lost some of its loft and I just wasn’t feeling the Purple color anymore.
I went with black and really put a lot of stock in the reviews that said this was a slimming coat. I live in Alaska and the words winter coat and slimming do not easily go hand in hand.
I went with sizing up and am glad I did. I usually wear a size 10-12 but XL is exactly what I needed.
IMPORTANT PART: I put on this coat and surveyed the fit and at first was a bit dismayed as the streamline effect does not take advantage of any curves you might have. I find the chest/shoulder area very roomy and maybe a smidge boxy. The hips fit snug. I left the house after my quick mirror analysis thinking maybe I would return the coat. BUT THEN... I wore it out in sub zero temps on my errands and fell dramatically in love. It is secure, all encompassing yet not restricting...cozy like a mother’s hug.
So.
Warm.
It only took one time wearing it and the coat closet has been cleared and this gem of a coat has the place of honor on my easy reach hook.
Well done Basin Range!

Best jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This jacket is sooooo cozy! I love the hoodie and honestly everything about it, it is very warm and you can wear it with multiple layers. I usually wear a medium so that’s what I got and it fits perfect. I got the black color but I will say it looks more like a dark grey, no complaints though!

Warm and roomy in the chest

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I originally purchased this coat for myself. I’m 5 foot nothing and have short arms, so shopping for a coat online is dreadful. I got a large because I’m also 150 lbs and heard the coat runs small. I guess I agree, but not by a lot. In conclusion, the coat is too big for me. The arms dangle and it’s just not a good fit.

Thankfully, my daughter is 5’6, 156 lbs and chesty (size D) so she filled this coat in nicely. It does have a drawstring on the inside for her to pull in, giving her an hourglass figure. She looks beautiful. The coat is warm but not bulky. She loves all the snack holes (pockets).

I’m trying again with a medium. Hope it works out.

Great coat

Took this all the way to Germany in the middle of winter and up to Zugspitze and was super warm! So many hidden pockets and fashionable. I got a large which was fine because i wanted to wear a hoodie underneath.

Is there a waist adjustment?

I have an older generation of this coat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

And I'm obsessed with it. I've had it for a few years and given it a lot of use, wearing it pretty much daily around town during Baltimore city winters. It definitely gets the job done, keeping me warm and dry while also looking sleek.

I picked this jacket for the faux fur lined hood and the unique style (loved that it comes in gray, not black), and was not disappointed - I get tons of compliments on it. Some other features I like: the fur lining on the hood is removable if that's not your jam; the super spacious exterior pockets (they fit my phone and wallet, so often no need to carry a purse); the longer thigh length; and the storm cuffs for keeping the cold out of the sleeves.

The few things that I found annoying about the older version of this coat, seem to have been fixed in this version! I found the hood to be annoyingly large, and it would fall down in my face/obstruct my view. It looks as if they've added a cinch, which would definitely solve that problem. I also didn't love how the lower pockets had a flap/snap closure because it made it more difficult to tuck my hands in—another problem they solved.

I do find that the jacket runs a little narrow through the hips, but unzipping the bottom a bit to increase range of motion definitely helps if you need to walk more quickly/take longer strides. I think the older version has an adjustable waist cinch to also help with the fit, but it seems that may have been eliminated here. If you're iffy or in-between sizes, I'd recommend sizing up to more comfortably fit thicker winter clothes underneath.

All in all, you really can't go wrong with this jacket!!

Tight in the hips

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: L

What a beautiful coat! Warm, stylish. It’s almost perfect, but the coat runs small through the hips. It fits my upper body perfectly (and I have broader shoulders). The narrowness at the hips really distorts the comfort and look of the coat. I’m bummed out. I’m not sure if I’ll return it or not. It just came in the mail yesterday.

Go Warmer if You Live in the North

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I received this jacket as a replacement to my old Marmot jacket from my husband for my birthday. We live in Buffalo, New York, so it gets pretty cold here. Today is a mild 19°. I was hopeful by the positive reviews that it would be a good replacement for my Marmot. Its not. Its nowhere near as warm. Plus, it runs rather small. I typically wear a small and found myself having to unzip the bottom so that i can zip it the rest of the way up. I would exchange it, but that would mean having to break to my husband that I'm not crazy about it and then it would be as cold in my house as it is outside and considering that this jacket doesn't provide much warmth to begin with, I'd be in trouble.

Perfect Around-Town Winter Jacket

I have been trying out the Basin and Range New Wingate Down Jacket and I am incredibly happy with it. It is the perfect jacket for getting to the office, wandering around town, and keeping warm and cozy on a cool winter walk through Banff. It is nice and insulated for those cold winter days, and I love that the neck zips up high keeping my neck nice and warm too. The faux fur is detachable so you can customize it to your style and liking which is a nice option to have. The length of the jacket is also great. My legs get quite cold on winter days, so having the thigh-length jacket gives my thighs a little extra warmth as well. The pockets are nice and big for your phone and wallet (if you go without a purse like a me). I love this jacket because it is stylish enough to wear around my mountain town without being too-city style. I would highly recommend the New Wingate Down Jacket if you are looking for a jacket that can take you from your 9-5 office day to a nice date night in the evening. It’s a great, all around stylish winter jacket.

Perfect Around-Town Winter Jacket

SO warm SO comfy

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. If you're looking for the perfect olive green jacket to accompany all your winter outings, look no more, because you've found it! The Wingate down jacket is about as warm, soft, cozy, and stylish as they come... my only regret is living in the valley of Arizona and needing to travel to wear it more often!! I love the olive color, all the different pockets, and the way the sleeves were designed. A medium fits comfortably with layers underneath without it being too snug! The Wingate will be my go to jacket for snowy, but stylish, conditionst this season!

That Olive Tho!

This jacket has it all--keeps you warm and dry, fits well, and looks great. I had to have the olive color and it didn't disappoint, so cute! Bonus: the faux fur hood liner zips off if you aren't a fur girl.

Warm AND Pretty

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I love that this jacket doesn’t look incredibly bulky, yet is extremely warm! The fur on the hood looks expensive and of course I’m a fan of all of the pockets to store things. It’s the perfect jacket for me for Utah winters because it’s stylish but also will keep me warm for the 6 month winters!

This jacket is incredibly warm. I got this jacket for the start of fall and it has taken to outside on even the chilliest autumn days. Hanging by the campfire or taking my pup Rory for a walk this 550 down jacket has continued to keep me warm.

Stylish Winter Jacket

I was given this product from Backcountry.com but this review is my personal opinion. I love the style of this jacket! I've been wanting a winter jacket with a faux fur hood for a while now and the Wingate Down Jacket fits the bill. Sizing is spot-on, as I wear a small normally and it fit as expected. The style is flattering in the way it's tailored. I would say it's more of a coat I would wear in the city rather than on a backpacking trip though- it's a dense jacket (not lightweight). It will definitely keep me warm in colder temps. I did wear it on some easy hikes in the Grand Canyon in November, which was perfect. The temps were getting colder and I was able to move around in this jacket comfortably. I can tell the construction of this jacket is very durable, and made with quality materials. The color seems more like a dark gray than black, but nevertheless I think it looked great and it was pictured exactly as it looked on the website. Overall I'm very happy with the Wingate Down Jacket and can't wait to wear it when the temps drop!

Will thaw your frozen meat body

I've worn this jacket around campus and to work in 10 degree weather and I barely even got cold. Which is saying a lot because I'm always cold. It's not too bulky and it allows a lot of mobility.

Cute Fit/Stylish

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love the fit and stylish pocket layout on this jacket. For being on the heavier side of jackets I typically wear it didn't make me feel too bulky and with the angled pockets and fit. Haven't worn this in snow so can't speak on the waterproofing but wore walking outside in 30 degree weather with no complaints.
