An unexpected surprise!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was in the market for a mid layer that is versatile enough for everyday use. In my sights was the Atom LT, North face thermoball hoody, patagonia nano, etc... Basically, everything was up for grabs. The flagstaff o2 was on sale and with the current promotions it fell into my "impulse buy" category.

So I put it on and was shocked at how GREAT it looks, fits, and feels! Very soft and light. The pictures make the outside like a softshell layer but it is not. It is more like a hardfleece layer. Comparable to something like the Arcteryx fortrez hoody. It is also a little more form fitting than the pictures. I am 5'10" @ 170lb wearing a medium. It's not tight, or loose. It is exactly as described (regular fit). Wrist cuffs are elastic and slightly over sized and fits loosely around my wrists.

Definitely recommend. This is my first basin and range product and probably won't be my last. Quality is much better than I expected.

Very comfortable but a little heavy.

This jacket is super comfortable and I like it a lot. It is very similar to Nano Air which I also own. I have have the nano air jacket and wanted the hooded version. When I saw this on sale I went for it as they seem very similar. The feel of the face fabric is close, the nano is a little smoother and tighter hand. They both have similar 4 way stretch which contributes to the comfort. This jacket is also nice and breathable. While the Polartec Alpha is 80g as compared to the 60g insulation of the nano air it doesn't account for the overall higher weight of the garment. I purchased the Medium and it weighed 660g as compared to the advertised weight of the Nano Hooded version of 385g. I like the fit as it gives me enough room to wear a base layer and a midllayer of a fleece underneath. In conclusion, this jacket on its own for the price I paid is a very comfortable, breathable, warm, well made, versatile piece with which I am very happy. However, at the retail price of $220 I would have to strongly consider the nano air at a price of $299.

Brother LOVES it

Last Christmas I purchased the Cardiff Jacket by Basin and Range for my brother who is always on the road and working outside. He worn that jacket every day. I was by far his favorite thing that he owned. Unfortunately, at one job he forgot to grab it and was extremely upset. Basin and Range discontinued the Cardiff, and he was super sad about that. This past Christmas though, i decided to purchase this jacket in place of his lost one... and he told me that he loves this jacket so much more! Keeps your temp regulated, looks extremely sharp, and the fabric is very soft. Would highly recommend this jacket if you are in the market for something light and warm

Love it!

This is my go to jacket for chilly spring and fall nights. It is clean and sleek yet extremely functional. Light weight and non-restricting.
Perfect for winter in the South, but you may need slightly more insulation for cold winters in the Mountain-West.
The fit is perfect with sleeves that are proportional to the size.
Give me a shout directly with any questions!

Perfect for fall

The flagstaff O2 jacket is perfect for fall and spring. The stretch fabric has a great hand and is super cozy. This is a great alternative to the Patagonia Nano-Air, with just 20 grams more of synthetic insulation. The face fabric is very breathable and stretchy, it also features a DWR treatment to repel water. I love the draw cords on the hood as well as the hem, they are a great feature especially if you are using this jacket "in the field" and need it to fit snugly around a helmet. There's a nice sleeve for your phone on the inside of the right pocket that has a headphone hole so you can use this to sweat in during the cold months.
I found the fit on the jacket to be a little boxy in the mid-section, I'm a pretty skinny guy so it could just be my size, but it is not an athletic fit which is great if you are using this as part of your layering system. The sleeves are a great length, and I love the drop hem in the back to keep the bum warm.
The Flagstaff has been my go to jacket in these cooler fall temperatures that Utah has been having. I've worn it everyday since I got it. It looks great and I've gone out on the town in it, as well as hiked and rock climbed in it. It was a bit windy, and pretty chilly on the wall, the Flagstaff kept me warm and happy.
I'd recommend this jacket to anyone who is looking at the Patagonia Nano-Air or the Arc'teryx Atom LT but doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg, but still get a high quality product with slightly more insulation in it. Overall this jacket is pretty kick ass, and I will wear it until the holes I put into it are no longer repairable.
