Why We Built The Teo Hybrid Down Jacket

The skin track's as cold as it is sweaty, so we made the Women's Teo Hybrid Down Jacket to keep us warm while we work up a sweat. It has light, lofty down insulation around the chest and shoulders for the solid warmth we all want in wintertime, and the sleeves and back use synthetic insulation for quick-drying comfort after we sweat through our backpacks. The back and sleeves are air permeable to begin breathing the minute we slide the insulator over our baselayers. Pertex Quantum Air fabric covers the core for ultralight, airy comfort, and the whole kit is water-resistant to shed snowfall if we're touring in tomorrow's pow.

I like this coat, but it has issues

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I like the coat, merely for how it looks- but it's not warm, but any stretch of the imagination. Additionally, feathers come out of the seam on mine often which I find very odd. I bought two when I got this- one men's and one women's- the men's didn't have this issue on the seams, so maybe it is just this particular coat and not the entire line of backcountry ones. I do however think the back not having insulation like the front is a big downfall. It's almost like I need to wear two coats, but it's just too bulky for that. I'd be content with using this on a 55-60 degree day.

Venting as a Design Defect

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

First, this jacket is beautiful. It is slimming, stylish, and easy to move in. That is why it is so hard to return; I really wanted to try to keep it, but I just can't. The vents under the arms are simply a poor choice from a design perspective. The vents have no cover to them, nor can you close them. Any time I tried to wear the jacket, the vents would allow in the winter wind rendering me cold. I am from the south, but was also was wearing it in the southern winter (45 degrees plus). I need to be able to wear this for a hiking trip in AK...It (sadly) just isn't warm enough for my thin blood.

Great on its own or for layering

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This product was given to me by Backcountry but this is my honest opinion. Love the fit of this jacket and the length of the body and sleeves. Form fitting but with room to be active and function outdoors. The insulation is warm and so light its not a big deal throwing this in your pack for some extra layering. I like the fact that it doesn't have a hood so it fits under a variety of layers better. The vents are great under the arm and in the very large pockets. I've used this on trail runs in various weather, while hiking and ski touring. This jacket is a no brainer for any weather and if I'm not wearing it, its always with me in my pack. Would love a small internal pocket for when this is being worn as a top layer but over all the fit, the material of the down portion and the stretchy back material, its a great piece to add to anyones closet.
