Love em, hate em
First let me say these are the type of pants I’d been looking for. I’m usually a 39 but asked a gearhead if they ran big. He gave his opinion that the 28s should be fine I was really stoked to get those. Well when they arrived I loved the fabric. Started to pull the on, legs fit snug butt good like they’re supposed to. However the waist is cut high and narrows significantly. These are NOT low rise pants. They fit up which makes them awkward but wearable. It’s a shame these are a great design but poor execution. Buy a size up.

Shrank.....Alot!
Everyone of my pants is 30/32. Ordered the same with these. After one wash they are now 28/28. Pretty much unwearable. I had to cut the waist so I could breath and I wear them around the house, as I don't want to wear complete high waters. :/

They make my thighs look great.

I got the Medal Bronze in a size 34. These pants have a great color, style and the fabric is just stretchy enough to keep you comfortable. They are ready for the outdoors and then the pub after the hike. However, woowee are these tight ones. I'm typically a 32 but I've gained some 36 year old slow metabolism belly so I ordered up a 34. These pants make my thighs look great, and take the wind out of my sails every time I sit down. The length is spot on (I'm typically a 32 length) and these fit just right. The pocket placement was a serious consideration on the part of the designers. Phone pockets, to zippered pockets, these pants are my go to- when I'm not feeling the extra water weight that day.

Sizing runs very small

Seem like nice pants but sizing is significantly smaller than other pants, and the stretch in the pants is nice...but there's no stretch in the waistband. Definitely need to order up a size. If you're someone who is between sizes, you'll probably want to order up 2 sizes. Not sure why these pants would be sized this way, but kudos to Backcountry for helping me out with my exchange when they did not fit. On the flip side, the length is actually longer than I expected. If you're short for your waist size, plan to roll up the cuffs.

SMALL

My true waist size is normally a 32/33... but usually size up for anything with a slim-ish fit due to upper leg muscle. Got these in a 34 and basically couldn't button them. They fit pretty well in the legs but the waist wasn't even close to being accurate.

Could be amazing, but misses the mark

These pants do a pretty good job at fulfilling multiple roles. They look nice enough to wear into the office, but have the technical features and materials to be useful on many different outdoor adventures. The fit is great once you get the sizing dialed in, (a full size up from my normal 34) they are slim and have a nice taper to the lower leg, but are stretchy enough to climb and cycle in comfortably. My biggest issue is the color saturation. In two different colored pairs, the color hasn't held up. On the first wash my ebony pair had white spots along the side and my olive pair have an outline of my phone in the front pocket after 3 wears. I hope that Backcountry can get these sorted because they have all the makings of a fantastic go to pant, they just need a few tweaks.

Nice Material, Odd Fit

I'm not sure what type of body you need for these pants to fit well. I'm guessing you need to be at least 5'10 with big legs and glutes. Just a strange fit on these for a shorter guy like myself, and no ability to pick a shorter inseam. I loved the material and comfort of these pants, but after trying them on I had to return. Like everyone else commenting here, these run small. I'm usually a 28 - 29 waist and the 30 was snug, but could have been a bit snugger, which only added to the sizing conundrum, as 28 would have been too tight. Backcountry, I encourage you to try a new pant with the same material but different sizing specs. Unless you have the body of the model, I would not recommend buying these, however.

Verging on mis-sized they run so small

The pants themselves seem fine, but I'm leaving so harsh of a review because they really need to iron out the sizing issue. It isn't "you might want to order a size up" territory, it's "you definitely need to order a size up". I wear a 32 with room to spare in Levi's, J Crew, Patagonia, whatever, but these I could barely button.

I seem to be a 28-30 waist in most of Backcountry?s pants. I ordered a 30 and it?s way too small not sure if I will be a 32 or 34. The fit and material seem awesome can?t wait to get the right size and try them out.
