SHORT fingers

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 7

I purchased according to the size chart but the finger length of these gloves is comically short! When I took them out of the package I thought they were the ones I got for my kids.

Solid gloves

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 9

The reviews are accurate; the gloves do run small. But if you factor that in, they are well worth the price. They have features you’d expect at a higher-priced pair of gloves and ultimately do the job of keeping fingers warm and dry. Overall pretty happy with the purchase.

Size is way off so is quality

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 10

I like the Backcountry brand, but these gloves are a big miss. The size is way off. I have my trusty Hestra size 10 so I ordered these 10. Look at the picture (black is Backcountry and white is Hestra, both size 10). Backcountry gloves are easily 30% smaller and the thumb is disproportionally tiny.

Outside of the size issue, the quality does not instill confidence. The leather is not soft on the palm and the seams are iffy. The cuff on Hestra's (or any the glove I own) ends in a soft ring and kind of widens up, Backcountry glove cuff looks like it was cut by a knife. It is sharp polyester that is abrasive to the skin. The upper part that is not covered by leather is very thin and I can see hands getting cold because of that.

I believe that it is the first model of Backcountry brand in the ski glove business and they have a lot of work ahead of them. This first model is just wrong. I do like their products so I have confidence that they will make it right.

I don't feel bad about the gloves as they were on sale for $40, so my expectations were not high, to begin with. This pair going back.

Good Value to Quality

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: M

No paying extra for a brand name on these. Good value to quality. Definitely fit was different than a baseline glove like a Black Diamond had to try a couple of sizes. Long fingers on the size I usually use had to size down. Hoping that the fit will be better once they break in.

Good-Could be better

Bought these to replace 10+ year old REI ski gloves. On the first day, they were quite warm and did a great job at Alta where temps were about 15F on the mountain. Hands were toasty. However, by the fourth day, the insulation in the gloves had packed down and they were losing their warmth. Hopefully, the performance will stabilize. If not, these gloves will need to be replaced.

The gloves need a snow cuff. They are too short forcing the wearer to close the jacket around the glove rather than the other way around as is typical with a ski glove where the glove's cuff goes over the jacket sleeve. Others like this arrangement. Perhaps it depends on what you are used to.

I like the Gortex. Hands stayed relatively dry:--- my hands tend to sweat, even on cold days.

Nice Gloves

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these to replace my old splitboard mittens and I'm liking the change a lot! The biggest thing that drew me to these mittens is the low profile looking wrist area and they did not disappoint in that area at all. Not too bulky and just the right amount of wrist coverage. They've got just the right amount of insulation and they kept my hands completely dry the couple times I've used them. These gloves feel durable and I'm excited to see how long they will last me.

Look No Further

I absolutely love gloves that fit comfortably and slide right under my jacket. These gloves are really the best gloves I've put on. They are super warm, never get wet, and look really classy.

I normally have some extra length in my fingers when I order a medium glove (always in between sizes) but with these gloves the medium fit like a glove (pun very much intended) but really I don't have any excess fabric in the fingertips and that leads to a warmer glove, and happy fingers.

The last thing I want to mention is the next to skin feel. sometimes neoprene cuffs rub my wrists the wrong way, and it gives me a nails on the chalkboard kind of reaction. I did not have this problem at all, and am stoked to have such a comfortable and practical glove.
