Why We Built The Backcountry Cottonwoods GORE-TEX Bib Pant

Excuse us while we head out to find some waist-deep powder stashes this winter—we've got the eager help of our Cottonwoods Bibs, you see. We built these with everything needed to stay dry in the wettest of sidecountry or full-blizzard conditions. Using a burly GORE-TEX construction, the Cottonwoods defend against all manner of moisture, even from the inside, and we designed them to integrate seamlessly with our paired Cottonwoods Jacket, so we'll be safe and dry when we land those fresh turns.

No way to comfortably use the bathroom

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

NO EASY ACCESS!! These pants were not made with women in mind at all, they are not easy to get on and off when you have to use the rest room. If you were in the back country with these pants you would 100% regret it. You have to detach the entire top portion to use the bathroom, then you have to reattach it which feels impossible when you already have all your gear on. I have used these a total of 5 times and main leg zipper has already broken.

Sizing issue

The color and Goretex material of the bib is spot on but the sizing is definitely off. Chest area is way too small and I'm small chested. The upper bib side zipper is difficult to zip up. Length was great for me.

Fits like a dudes pants

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

First of all, material and design aside from fit are great. Ordered a size up to get some extra length but these pants/bibs fit my wife like she was wearing my pants. Length was great but every other aspect was enormous.

Extremely underrated

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Backcountry does a great job selling these on all their amazing features, lessons learned from selling everyone else’s stuff over the years. The 3l gore Tex is bulletproof, the venting is plentiful. The fit is akin to similarly sized Patagonia shell pants. They’ll tell you these double as a regular pant, but what they won’t tell you is the other half, the leftover utility bra. What an amazing piece of backcountry equipment no one else has thought of. Keep things in check up high while wearing your regular pants from some other brand who hasn’t caught on to this dawning trend.

Great bib, def size up

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am very glad I read the reviews in depth because otherwise I would have bought a small. I got a medium and it fits very well. I am 5'5, about 140lbs with very long legs and a short torso. 32DD. Usually a size small in pants or 27 in jeans. Muscular legs but average/smaller muscle in shoulders and back. I got the red color which is beautiful. I do agree with some reviews that this is a "zipper highway" but personally it doesn't both me and I appreciate all of the pocket options. The pants can be a little noisy when walking but I only noticed that at home; once I was skinning uphill the noise of my bindings/my steps was louder than the pants. Very waterproof.

Clearly Designed by Men

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

These pants are adorable and nice material was used, but these were clearly designed by men without the female form as a thought. The inner thigh vents use rigid zippers that pinch the crotch *extremely uncomfortably* when walking or sitting. While it is lovely that the bottoms are removable, the three way zipper intersection UNDER your left boob is less than convenient. Returning mine, I had high hopes, but back to the drawing board.

Didn't know how much I needed these

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love this so much! They thought of everything when these were made. It is so easy to get in these and to use the bathroom. The size was great for me, I struggle to find things that fit. I can see how some people would say these run small. For that im grateful. I don't feel like I'm swimming in these. The function is great. Took these out to hike in on the sloppy lakes in Northern MN and they kept me dry. I say this runs small because they fit me so well and I am a petite person.

Not made for long legs

I ordered a small and the pant length was hilariously short.

Snow Bibs

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I sent these back. I bought an XL due to previous comments. I am 5'8, 155 lbs, size 10 and I didn't like the fit around the mid-section. The upper side zipper to the torsal part of the bib was a hassle to fasten and zip up. I felt like it should be one zipper but that's just my preference. The material was stiff, not very movable as I wanted these for skinning. The color was cool.

Good quality, just ok fit

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Definitely good quality bibs especially for the price. Great features like being able to zip off the bib and turn them into pants. Pockets and material all very high quality. My only issue is the fit. I really want outdoor brands to pay attention to how clothes fit women?s bodies. I am 5?9? and wear a size 10 pants. I bought size large. They only just fit over my hips/butt/legs. It?s hard to do much layering under them and they restrict my movement when skiing. They?re also too short for me which adds to the misfit.
