Get to the top with a little help from the goat.

Don't let crappy skins interfere with your backcountry stoke. To help you reach the summit with minimal effort and maximum fired-up-ness, Backcountry.com is offering a exclusive print version of G3's Alpinist skin. It features self-aligning stainless steel tip connectors and a self-camming tail clip to make getting your skins on and keeping them there a quick process. They're made with a glue that grips no matter the temperature, so you won't have to worry about sliding down the skintrack during freezing-cold dawn patrols.

For improved glide and less grip, select a width that matches the narrowest point of your ski; for wall-to-wall coverage and improved grip, select a width that is slightly narrower than the widest point of your ski and trim the skin to match the shape of your ski.

  • Fast-gliding skins with Backcountry.com's exclusive print
  • Self-aligning tip and camming tail clips assure easy attachment
  • Sticky, non-toxic, and solvent-free glue stays grippy over time
  • Center Rip Strip helps you pull the skins apart easier
  • Included tool allows skins to be trimmed to fit ski dimensions
  • Skin savers are not included

Great skins that perform

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These skins were quick to set up and perform well. I went with the style of just wider than the narrowest width. The trimming tool worked great. I had no issues with grip during touring and they glide pretty decent.

Backcountry G3 Skins - Glue Failure

Just like Jan Rous' review, I used these skins a half a dozen days this season after buying new and this past weekend had the glue completely fail. It's stuck my skis like something fierce, the skis are actually stuck together. I was able to glide better on moderate downhill with my SKINS on than off because there was that much glue on my bases. You get what you pay for I guess.

Backcountry at least stood by their customer and took care of me. But a bummer experience all around. Definitely won't be going cheap on skins next time.

Backcountry G3 Skins - Glue Failure

    All around high quality

I have bought several of the g3 x backcountry skins over the years. They are high quality, easy to fit length wise (no need to cut and make holes like with bd skins), the cutting tool is great, and lastly don’t come with skins savers (a positive). I don’t like the g3 skin savers savers as they are too stiff, so I buy the bd savers!

      Great for the price!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Awesome that these are a little cheaper than the regular g3 skin. It grips really well which is nice, overall your basic skin and you get what you pay for. For some skis that have a thin capped sidewall the tip attachment does not held that well. I have a pair of Voile Superchargers and it has a tough time staying on if it gets bumped.

Great For Those on a Budget

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

If you plan on staying in a tight budget for touring with this skin will work fine. Unfortunately when the climbing gets steep I find it hard to find good grip on the skin track. On untracked snow, there is slightly better grip on the steeps. As for fair pitches and lower angle climbing the skins work fine. I would not recommend this skin for long travel either because the glue is not the stickiest out there either. Recommended use would be for lower angle climbing and shorter duration. If you need stronger skins check out the Black Diamond Ascension Skins or Voile Ski Skins.

      Get's the job done!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These skins are a great price for a great product. They are super easy to trim, the G3 trim tool is the best around. They get me and my ski's up, so I can go down!

      Glue failure

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought skins last year. After using them for the first time this season the glue completely failed and ended up sticking to the bottom of the skis so hard it was impossible to ski & almost impossible to get the glue off the skis.

      Backcountry branded G3 Climbing skins

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These skins simply work better than the rest. Hands down, G3 has a reputation of having the best tail clip in the market. The tip attachment works flawlessly also. Combined with some skin savers for those who have slacked on their gym membership. These skins are easy to use - time tested - and do not fail. G3 is the leader in skin technology. Highly Recommended

      Solid skin

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Got these skins as a gift for my girlfriend. Here's what she had to say:
I bought the 100mm short for my 159cm skis
and the fit is perfect. I’ve used these skins twice and am very happy with my purchase. The skin cutter that is included is so easy to use. They have performed well in different snow conditions and allow me to climb well as a beginner in the backcountry.

Wish they had a 130m long

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Went with the 112m and they were just a bit narrow at the tips of my skis. My skis are a salomon 172x98 and they work just wish they had the 130 in long. Otherwise great product for the price.

      Good Skins

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these skins on sale for my first AT skins. Since they’re my first skins I don’t have much to compare them to. However, the skins help up very well on some variable terrain. These are good skins for the price.

      A few problems

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have purchased these skins 3 times over the last 3 years, mostly because of the inexpensive price and they work fairly well. The first two pairs, including the pair I bought in September (blue and red arrow design shown below) came with a ski trimmer, but the new 2017-18 black and white goat design did not. One skin from the new version also came with a slightly different tail clip. As is was different from the other skins, it was installed incorrectly (backwards). Fortunately I could reverse it and it should work. All three pairs did NOT come with skin savers, so do not expect them. I have bought the Long size all three times for 184 cm skis. I find them a bit short and while the chart shows a Medium should work for 184 cm skis, I would recommend against getting the Medium if the Long is not available.

Performance is generally good, though in cold single digit weather they do not stick as well as some other brands. Some issues sliding back on steeper sections. They do glide well on flat sections. I had to replace the first pair after two years of use since too much glue was sticking to bottom of skis, so skis were not gliding. This was never an issue with previous skins (other brands) which have all been used for 5+ years and still get used.

Sizing chart wrong for short skis!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The skin itself is great, and my second pair of these (glue holds well for many tours, good grip on snow, easy to use, etc), but the SIZING CHART IS WRONG FOR SHORT SKIS. Both the Short and XShort sizes say they fit skis as short as 153cm, but this is simply untrue. The skin did not fit my 156cm skis even with the tail strap buckle pushed way up against the skin. I had to order a separate tip and tail connector kit and doctor the skin myself to make it work. Very disappointed in the incorrect sizing!

One more irritation was that the instructions included with the product said it comes with a skin saver, but it does not.

That said, I do love the skins.

Does Exactly What It Needs To Do

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these skins because they were the cheapest available option. The skins came with a case and a cutter. They were easy to cut and the size was true. I used them a couple times since I bought them and they work great. The adhesive has no problems, they do not show any wear yet, and they grip nicely. I would recommend this product to anyone. No to mention, they look good on the bottom!

      Sizing...

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

      Ski Length
      X-Short 153 - 163cm
      Short 153 - 169cm
      Medium 168 - 184cm
      Long 183 - 189cm
      X-Long 189 - 199cm

See my review and photos above - the XShort and Short sizes DO NOT FIT skis that are shorter than at least ~160cm. I know that this is the sizing even as listed on G3's site, but it is inaccurate.

My X-Short skins fit my 156 cm skis just fine - plenty of room to go in either direction.

      GOAT of skins

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just got these for my new setup and they are doing great! Nothing beats the G3 skin cutter and the size chart is accurate!

The mediums are currently sold out, I ride 172cm 110mm could I buy the next size up and trim them?

      Hi Haley,

The next size up in those skins is going to be too long for your 172's. If you want to give me a call at 801.736.5363 I'd be happy to talk through sizing with you and find a pair of skins that are going to fit your skis.

      Thanks.

      Sizing feedback...

I recently helped one of my awesome customers with sizing these skins. We based the skin off the indicated length of the ski which was 189 so we went with the Long 183 - 189cm for a nice tight fit but they found these to be a tad too short for their skies.

In asking them for some additional details on the skies they informed me of the following:
"Using these on a pair of K2 Hippy Stinx. They clearly say 189 on the side, but standing them up next to my old Atomic 191's they are exactly the same length. Perhaps the twin tips are measured a bit differently, or there is some difference between the manufacturers.

I took out a measuring tape. They are 193 cm from tip to the end of the tail measured along the curve of the ski. That explains why the skins didn't fit."

Word of advice would be to double check the actual length of the ski to best determine the size of skin needed.

witch would be the perfect size for a pair of moment bibby pro 174?

Climb as well as a goat

These skins are fantastic for climbing any mountain and look good while doing it. They are durable, attach to your ski easily, and are a breeze to trim to the correct width with the included g3 trimming tool.

        Easy breezy beautiful

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I didn’t have to cut these bad boys at all but I knew if i did the g3 tool was there to help out. I ride the armada Norwalk’s, sadly discontinued, and decided to size up to the long for a 179 cm ski due to the large shovel. They climb well and are dry quickly. These do not include ski savers so I would recommend getting the g3 skin savers for storage.
