Gets the snow study job done. Whether you're measuring a foot pen or conducting a full pit profile

Nice To Have

Great to have in your snow study kit. Lightweight and packs down fairly small.

Essential piece for you BC kit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Did you buy the BCA snowstudy kit? Are you looking for the next tool to include in your pack? This is it! It's cheap, and super functional. It folds down and is super compact, so it fits great in most pack pockets. Additionally, it maintains its shape when extended so that you can focus more on the measurement and less on the ruler.

nice ruler!

A few features make this ruler real nice. As Zach said, the segments that snap to 0, 90, and 180 degrees are great. It's nice to snap the end over 90 degrees at the top of your snow pit to keep it in place. Also, having it count up on one side and down on the other is very handy. Makes it easy to measure full pit depth and also measure down from the top during stability tests without flipping it. It's also super light and packs down small

    Does what it needs to

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Purchased this and put it to use in my Avy class numerous times. It seemed to have all the necessary features for what I'll need it for ultimately, and folded and packed easily.

    Well designed ruler

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

BCA added a couple features that are really nice. The segments snap to 0, 90, and 180 degrees which is nice for folding into a freestanding T or L shape. Also, each end has 0cm on one side and 200cm on the other. This is nice because you don't have to unfold the whole thing to find the 0cm mark, you just flip it over. I prefer it this way over 0 cm on one side and 0 inches on the other because inches are pointless.
