Hawx Ultra Xtd 130 Alpine Touring Boot

The Hawx Ski Boot took the skiing community by storm last season, so Atomic made an entire collection of Hawx boots in various flexes, lasts, and specificities. The Hawx Ultra XTD 130 Alpine Touring Boot is a backcountry-specific Hawx boot with a narrower last and the stiffest flex available in the ski industry. Atomic made this freeride-inspired touring boot stiff enough to drop pillows and slash spines, without dragging you down on the skintrack. Atomic's Grilamid Progressive Shell combines thicker walls in areas that need to be stronger with slimmer walls everywhere else to shed weight without sacrificing solid power transfer and downhill performance.

While the Memory Fit liner already has preshaped heel and ankle pockets, it's also heat-moldable so you can tinker around with the fit for optimal comfort, and Atomic's Free/Lock 2.0 Walk Mechanism allows for a 54-degree range of motion in walk mode so you can fly up the skinner with a natural stride. These kicks weigh in at 1420 grams per foot, and while that may not be as featherlight as some of the other skimo offerings, it's light enough to get you up the mountain without feeling gassed before you get to reap your reward. Plus, when your knees are shaking while you're getting ready to drop into a walled-in pinner, you'll be psyched to have these solid chargers on your feet.

Not so stiff as aspected

Got my boots a couple of weeks ago. Didn't had the time to use time up untill now! First impression: wauw! Nice narrow fit that hold my tiny feet (size 39 men) in place!! Which normally is a big issue! The buckels are great, weight is great and so is the walking mode! Unfortunately i didn't found the perfect on/off-piste balance they clamed. Iam skiing world cup 130/150 skiboots so i was hoping on the first touring boot with a nice stiff flex.. The lower/front part of the schuh is nice and stiff but the upper (calf) part ist just to flexy :(. If they made that upper part a bit stiffer it would have been a very nice boot. Also i do feel the gripwalk really through the boot when iam skiing (walks great!). Something thats a bit annoying but maby i have to get used to it. Overall a really nice skiboots for people with small feet with here and there some possibilities to improve next season! Maby when i go on a big tour my opinion changes but time will tell! Cheers! Great for skiing and touring but...

Been skiing and touring in these boots for about one season. Overall very satisfied after having a boot fitter working on them a couple of times. But I have now seen that the liner is broken and worn at more than one place. Not sure it will last this season which is too bad (expensive boots should last longer in my opinion).

Perfection!

Bought the XTD 130's last yr in Wyoming as I was doing more and more back country trips in the Tetons and tired of renting boots and equipment. The boots fit like a glow! The ability to mold both the shell and liner enables the most comfortable fit. On the way up you could barley feel them on your feet and on the way down they held up like a race boot and great flex when needed as well. Couldn't be more happier with these on my feet. They won't disappoint!

Inner sole problem

I bought these boots approximately one year ago. The inner sole got ripped appart after three uses. The boots have two screws on the inside of the outer boot which are in contact with the inner boot and under the pressure of movement they rip the inner boot. To prevent further damage on the inner boot I had to tape the screws with duct tape.

Favorite Boot

I've had a pair of these boots for the past two seasons, putting on 100+ days each season. I absolutely love these boots! Once you get them heat molded you'll never want another boot. I am a large aggressive skier at 6'3 220 lbs and I work these boots from opening to closing day. From skiing in bounds groomers to touring all day in the side/backcountry to banging spring bumps in May/June these boots are fantastic!

The real deal!

Just got this boot and have to say its amazing. Fits and skis like a true alpine ripper but is very light and tours extremely well!

These boots were made for skiing... Up and down!

This boot is the true quiver killer of boots! I skied the the 2018/2019 version of the Hawx Ultra XTD 130 everyday of my season last year and it was exceptional. I now have a few days on this years Hawx Ultra XTD 130 and Atomic has made some minor changes that have a huge difference in the way the boot performs. The liner is more comfortable, the strap is now a booster style strap which helps dramatically with stiffing up the boot, and there are now holders on the cuff buckles that keep the buckles in place when they are open during touring. Having the top buckles stay on the setting that you prefer makes switching from hike to ski even faster at the top. All you have to do is flip from hike to ski and clamp the buckles down. No more fiddling with buckles at the top of a descent. This boot is a 10/10 when it comes to a stiff charging boot that is still super light and has great range of motion for hiking. I wear a 9.5 or 10 in street shoes, so typically I am a 26.5. However, the Atomic boot sole lengths are a little shorter than most so I found the 26.5 to be too tight. I upped to a 27.5 which is perfect for someone that is in between sizing like me. It's smaller as 27.5 boots go with a 312mm BSL. If you are on the bigger end of a size I would recommend sizing up.

Downhill chargers

These boots can definitely hang on the uphill with their light weight and great range of motion. On the downhills, they absolutely charge. The lock into ski mode is super easy and solid. I can’t say enough about their downhill performance. Might as well be wearing downhill boots. I used these for big missions in the mountains and days at the resort and have been extremely happy with them. An added benefit is the ability to mold the shell and liner. Of note, I have the 2019 version of these.

Awesome boot, requires expert fitting

During last season (18/19) I bought 2 pairs of this boot, due to a fire where the first pair were destroyed. The fitting time for the first pair was 1 1/2 hours. They still caused extreme pain after about 2 hours of skiing. The next pair took 3 hours of fitting, and I've had no problems with them at all (it appears my problem is blood vessels over my instep). The boot fitter ended up placing the whole shell in an oven to stretch them over my instep). They are the lightest boot I've ever owned, and feel like I could play soccer in them. They're also some of the stiffest boots I've ever owned. Current setup: Volkl Mantra 191, marker kingpin.

Too fragile for the price.

I bought these a month ago in Lake Tahoe and have only five days skiing in them. I make sure to take proper care of them, storing the boots buckled and only removing the boots while in ski mode. After only five days, the liner had ripped on the front from the shell pinching. I had gorilla tape on the back to prevent it from ripping there too, and have since taped both sides. It’s disappointing they are already damaged after such a short amount of time. I am concerned about the quality of the purchase considering how new these are.
