You can't paddle whitewater everyday.
Astral designed the Ronny Fisher Personal Flotation Device specifically for kayak fishing so you can relax in the rivers with a fishing rod every once in a while. The vest's Thin-Vent back panel incorporates a super thin foam that's evenly distributed across your back to accommodate the tall seatbacks found on most standard fishing kayaks, and the foam offers maximum ventilation to bring the breathability you want in warmer weather. Astral built Ronny Fisher's shell out of 500D Cordura with 1050D Ballistic reinforcements in high-wear zones to reduce abrasion-resistance and to stand strong against the river life as well as sharp hooks. The ultralight and recyclable PE-foam offers 16 pounds of buoyancy in case your catch pulls you in.
Similar to all of Astral's PFDs, the Ronny Fisher sports a unisex design that wraps your torso with large openings to provide a natural and unrestricted range of motion. Astral sized the two flip-down pockets to fit 6.5 x 4.25in tackle boxes perfectly; the tool organizer features mesh sleeves, elastic closures, and key loops that store Zingers, clippers, pocket knifes, and more for your convenience. In front of the flip-down pockets, additional zippered pockets store your valuables like a smartphone, wallet, and fishing license. The Ronny Fisher also features a stowaway hood at the collar for unexpected rainstorms, and a zippered beverage pocket sized for cans.

Perfect for Fly Fishing
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This PFD is perfect for Summer fly fishing. Great freedom of movement and a close fit make for a perfect fly fishing PFD you can use in big water. Love the big pockets up front for fly boxes and tippet and the stowaway hood is the real secret here. The hood is great for the heavier shower on warmer days when you don't want to change out but just want your head dry.
Finally, the lightweight back makes this an incredibly comfortable PFD you can wear all day. Having a few other PFDs with heavier padded backs, this PFD is much more comfortable and thus much more likely to be worn. Nice work by Astral!
Tom, Thank you for the solid review on the Ronny Fisher. Wondering if you noticed the zippered pocket on the lower left... a can fits perfectly! Enjoy.
Love this PFD
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I have had this PFD about three years now and I love it. The back is lightly padded throughout, rather than having a big pad on your shoulders like other PFDs. The pockets in front are useful for gear you need handy while on the water. And the green is perfect for me!
Thank you for the review and great picture, Marvin!
floated a river with it last week and fell in it worked great!
Traded up to the Ronny for ease paddling while oaring, and the low profile foam through the shoulders combined with large cutouts on the chest make it just that, very comfortable
Hey Emma! Thank you for the review! Sorry for my delayed reply!
My Brother Loves it
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I got this for my brother (and other guests) to use when we go Kayaking. So far he loves it. Luckily he hasn't needed to "use" the PFD but it is comfortable and fits well while paddling.
Hope he never needs to "use" it, but so glad he has it and loves it!
