Loved them

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got this for a gift for my mom and she loves it! My mom loves that their warm and loved the beadwork.

Love these but...

I bought these after admiring a pair on someone at the mountain. They are gorgeous, well made mittens, very warm and I love the story behind them. They did feel like an indulgence and I very much appreciated Backcountry refunding 25% when I saw the sale price emerge a couple of weeks after I'd purchased them. I have Raynauds in two fingers and usually have to fire up a charcoal hot pack in my mittens to be comfortable. Not with these. I love how they shut off any drafts around the wrists.
Two important things: #1 All Astis Mittens are made essentially the same way so anything you read about some being great for driving and others being great for hiking in Norway - is just advertising- they are all of the same construction and warmth. (I called the owner) #2 I work with my hands and think of them as large for a woman so I purchased a medium but they have stretched a bit and are too big to be comfortable holding ski poles - I noticed it in the moguls - I didn't feel I had a good grip - I wish I had ordered a size small. I will continue to wear them on super cold winter days, walking the dog etc but for skiing I may have to buy the next size down.
One other thing - EVERYBODY notices them - great way to strike up a conversation on the lift!

    Agree completely about the sizing.
I wish they made smaller sizes for the women's styles.
Even the size small is gargantuan on my hands.
It's not so big it prevents me from comfortably skiing with poles, but there is definitely an excess of material.

What animal/where does the fur on these gloves come from?
