Fell Apart after a few months

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 11.5

I used these shoes a few times a week on mostly fire roads and these shoes split on both feet on both sides where the feet meet the toes. I have never had a shoe fall apart after a few months. They were fun while they lasted but they did not last long

Overhyped

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 9.5

I used a pair of the Altra Lone Peaks from Tehachapi to North Kennedy Meadows on the Pacific Crest Trail. I found the grip from the tread to be pretty poor on any moist surface. These shoes caused me to lose traction a few times completely and gave me a few falls- including off a log during a couple river crossings. I did not have much confidence in the grip. The shoes were also slow to dry due to the material and design of the uppers. The shoes provided no protection against sharp rocks underfoot or when accidentally kicking a larger rock (shoe collapses leaving your toe to take all of the force). The cushioning was also inadequate for sharp rocky terrain. These were highly recommended and used by a lot of thru hikers; however, I would rather use a pair of Hokas any day for most terrains. Altra's durability and quality control seem to have issues. I did appreciate the shape of the shoe for the wide forefoot- never had a blister.
