ALPS Mountaineering Crescent Lake Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Synthetic

Beat the cold and the system.

It gets cold at night. Don't be caught underestimating this basic principle the next time you go camping; bring the warm bag. The Alps Mountaineering Crescent Lake 0 Degree Sleeping Bag can hang with the big boys in just about every area except for price. Techloft+ insulation is lightweight, extremely packable, and unlike goose down, retains over 70% of its insulating capabilities when wet.

Probably my least favorite bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Pros: very warm, affordable

Cons: bulky, heavy, and difficult to store.

I had a tough time with the zipper (may be just my specific bag) getting caught on the lining- one of my biggest pet peeves, especially when trying to pack up in a hurry. Fitting this into the sack provided was a nightmare.

Very Warm Sleeping bag

Got this bag for my 12 son who is in Scouts. He used in for a winter Campout and he stayed quite warm in 19 degree weather. Great value!

    Nice warm bag.

Nice warm bag very good price well worth it.

Warm bag, nice value for the $$

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Yes, I know, this is a large bag but I am using it for car camping. I am 5'11" and I fit just right in a regular. I like this bag. I am sure it will be warm at the colder temps.

      Great for cold camping

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this for my dad before the deer hunt and he stayed warmer than me. Has a chest and zipper baffle, roomy and stayed warm, just wish the inside was cotton for that soft feel.

      Car camping winner

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For what you get, this bag is great. Extremely comfortable and super warm. Since it is a 0 degree poly-fill it isn't the smallest packing bag but that was to be expected. This is a great car camping bag.

      I hate the zipper.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm only giving this 4 stars because the zipper is a pain. Otherwise, I love it. I have the regular and it fits me and my 27 pound dog very well. It can get a little on the warm side when you have a little space heater cuddling with you.

      Good Bag...a bit bulky

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

A bit to bulky to take it backpacking, but keeps you warm and comfy on a cold night. Good bag for the price!

      Amazing for cold car campers

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Very heazy and bulk but so comfy and warm. I would definitely not use this for backpacking since it is so large and heavy but it is perfect for car camping. Very warm and soft and seems to be constructed well.

      somebody knows the weight?

The regular length weighs 84 oz (5lbs 4oz).

      Chronically cold car campers, rejoice!

This thing is huge, heavy, and not very compressible. But you don't care. You're sick of spending winter nights on ski road trips shivering away in the back of your truck... Or if you're a chronically cold sleeper like me, spending even 20-30 degree fall and spring nights shivering away in a 15 degree down bag. No shame.

Look, I love minimalist backpacking ideology as much as the next ounce-counter... But if you've got a trunk or a roof box to store this synthetic snuggle sack in, you might as well never have to sleep cold while car camping again. Plus, at the price, how can you resist?

PS.... The wide version can fit two, if you're feelin' REAL cozy and don't care much about a personal space bubble.

        Heavy but very warm.

Although it is heavy and bulky, this bag is very warm. I also bought the fleece liner to go with it and I've found myself opening the bag half way through the night, for being too warm, even when the temps are around 20 degrees outside. All in all, great product.

Not for lightweight backpacking but WARM

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The specs will tell you how big and bulky this bag is. There's no better value for a 0 degree bag. I've used it backpacking and yes, it's heavy, but so is everything in the winter. If I could afford something smaller and lighter I would bring that, but this one allows you to get out there and enjoy winter camping and backpacking.
Construction is solid (comparable to my EMS, Mountain Hardware, and Big Agnes bags) and I expect it to last pretty much forever. The hood/collar isn't as fancy as on some other models but it keeps the cold out well enough.
Since this is so roomy, I can put my summer bag (women's 35 synthetic) inside it and enjoy super freezing cold temperatures!

          Unanswered Question

are there zippers on both sides?

it's a little bit BIG but the comfort rating is awesome. the price is so good for an element that will be helpful a lot of times

hey, is this bag rated 0 degrees Farenheit?

            Best Answer

Yep, temperature rating is in Fahrenheit. Keep in mind that temperature ratings are pretty subjective, depending on the person, tent, humidity, clothing, etc.

are the zippers on both sides?

Hey, there are zippers on the right side at head level, feet level and on the inside.

The sleeping bag is rather bulky. However it is very comfortable. I'm 5' 11 and a half inches 175lbs and I fit in the bag with plenty of room to roll over from sleeping on my back to my stomach or even bring my legs up and sleep in a little ball. Its more of a camping bag than a backpacking bag in my opinion. Overall wonderful bag. I look forward to using it to sleep in comfort this winter.

            Bulky and HOT

            • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this sleeping bag, its super toasty and cozy, and so plush you dont need any cushion except grass. Honestly it would be my bag of choice except for how massive it is. Even with the Cyclone stuff sack this bad boy takes up too much room. Perfect for car camping or if you only have a mile or two to lug things in. I hiked about 7 miles with it and damn near threw it off the mountain (who am I kidding it was 30 degrees). Ive slept in this bag in 17 degree weather and was perfectly warm, I even had to take my wool socks off.

Bag is good quality and warm, but bulky

            • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This is a good, warm bag for the price. I bought it as a gift for a friend I went backpacking with . The bag was warm and comfortable, but we did notice it was bulky size wise on the trip.
