Progressive protection.

Bikes are more capable than ever, and that means you're changing faster and harder as you barrel down mountain sides and weave through techy treelines. These faster paced and harder-charging lines call for a boost in protection, and 7 Protection is up for the challenge with the M2 Helmet. This helmet combines Conehead technology that utilizes dual-density foam to dissipate impacts, and full coverage on the temples and back for an extended shield when you're driving your rally-hound down the mountain at top speeds.

Conehead technology targets areas most prone to hard hits with two different densities of impact-absorbing foam that compact under force to dissipate the energy before it meets your head, potentially reducing the impact carried on to you. Its combined with a hard shell exterior that shields you from hits, and ample ventilation to help you keep your cool when the temperatures soar. The front of the helmet has ten large vents, and features a mesh bug-stopper to keep your scalp free of intruders when you're mashing pedals along a muggy riverside. The back sets you up with an additional nine vents that compliment the front ten, working as an active exhaust system to pull hot air away from your head and leave it in the wind behind you. Inside you'll find a custom 7iDP liner that cushions your scalp, and is easy to remove after a warm day on the trail, so you can stay fresh day after day, while a one-handed dial system lets you cinch in the perfect fit when you're suiting up at the trailhead.

Protect Your Noggin From A Floggin'

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This helmet caught me off guard a bit as I wasn't expecting such great quality out of a helmet for such a low cost. Generally when you make a purchase in the cycling industry you have light, cheap, and strong, and you get to pick two. With the M2 you're actually able to obtain all three, and be very happy during the process.

Sporting 19 vents for maximum airflow, the M2 showed up to party. Generally in this respect it can weaken the shell for certain types of tests, but this model proudly bolsters certification standards from CE and CPSC to ensure that you're alive to shred another day. A feat that is not easily obtained andthat many helmet manufacturers struggle with.

One key feature that I am personally a big fan of is the amount of protection that is had on the back of the riders head. 7 Protection accomplished a very comfortable fit, while ensuring that the entire back of the head, generally one of the weakest spots, is completely covered from rogue hits during impact. All while keeping the overall weight of the helmet low.

If you're looking for the helmet that checks all of the boxes, while still being able to keep some pennies in the bank. You've found the helmet for you. Great Value

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

For the price, this helmet is pretty tough to beat. I've tried a number of lids, and the M2 might be one of the better fitting I've found. For the sake of comparison, I'd say the sizing and feel is similar to the Kask Rex but not nearly as well lightweight or ventilated. The concentration of padding that sits right on the forehead eventually becomes quite sweaty on even a cool ride. If I had to have a main gripe, that'd be it. Otherwise, it's an excellent value helmet with great coverage and protection.

Seven Trail Lid

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have been using this helmet for a couple weeks now and I am very impressed with the fit and comfort of it. Once you get the M2 on and adjusted you can hardly tell you are even wearing a helmet. The rapid adjust chin strap and the dial on the back make it just about the easiest helmet to adjust on the fly. As for the technical features it has full coverage on the back of your head and around to the temples made out of dual density EPS foam for maximum protection. They used a front mesh panel that keeps bugs and debris out of the helmet. Overall it is a killer helmet for a great price point, complete your kit with an M2.
