The North Face ThermoBall Full-Zip Insulated Jacket - Men's

Synthetic that steals the best properties of down.

Snowshoe through the Rockies this winter in lightweight, toasty comfort with The North Face Men's ThermoBall Full-Zip Insulated Jacket. PrimaLoft ThermoBall insulation mimics the look and feel of down, trapping warmth to keep you cozy, even in extreme temperatures. It even compresses like down, so you can stow it in a pocket and take it with you wherever you go. And because it's synthetic, the ThermoBall stays warm, even when you get wet during backcountry ski session through powder.

The ThermoBall features a nylon shell that's durable enough to be worn on its own and slides easily under other layers. Its cuffs have an elastic binding to keep your sleeve from riding up your arms, while the adjustable hem tightens to prevent drafts. Pockets keep your hands warm when you reach the lookout point, and can be zipped closed to keep essentials secure on the return trip back to the car.

  • An insulated jacket for versatile outdoor protection
  • Durable, water-resistant shell for long-lasting use
  • ThermoBall insulation mimics down for intense heat, even when wet
  • Stand up collar offers extra protection
  • Adjustable hem and elastic cuffs seal out drafts
  • Zippered pockets keep essentials secure

Cardinal Red color is orange

  • Fit: Runs large

This jacket was nice, but the Cardinal Red color is more of a burnt orange, not as pictured. Also the jacket was too loose in the body. If I went down a size it would be too tight in the arms.

Nice Jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Gave this jacket as a gift and my friend really likes it. Good true to size fit and lightweight style.

Great lightweight jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

The office is cold many days, this is a perfect wearable indoor or outdoor jacket, great style and fit.

Great Midlayer or Light jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Got this for my brother and he loves it, he needed a new midlayer and the thermoball was a perfect solution. He normally wears XL in all jackets and he got the XL in this and it fit great. Wouldn't recommend wearing this as a everyday winter jacket because it is so thin, but it is great on a warmer day.

Love this jacket so light and so warm

    Not as warm as expected

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

This would be a great jacket if it was as warm as described, but it's not remotely as warm as a 600-fill power down jacket, in my opinion. This is about on par with a 60g Primaloft jacket for its warmth, or ever so slightly warmer, but not by much. I also found that the zippers on this jacket leave a bit to be desired, with the handwarmer pocket zips snagging easily and frequently, even if one adds longer zipper pulls. Fit for a medium on me was snug with a light or midweight shirt, but I didn't want to order a large, because I find TNF large jackets too big if you don't plan to layer below them, like I avoid with my casual jackets.

    Love this jacket

This jacket is so lightweight and so warm Love it

Best jacket I have owned. You get what you pay for i guess, perfect for me in the 20 degree weather with a bit of wind.

      Great review, Joel!

      My go-to

A great jacket. Lightweight, pack-able and durable. This is my second one and I use it for everything from skiing to nights out on the town. I would highly recommend it.

Would not recommend the fusebox grey

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: small

fusebox grey looks nice in the pictures, but in person is looks and feels very cheap. I have had a hooded thermoball jacket for years and the fabric is nothing like this. To get the faux texture look they must have used something completely different. the texture is not real texture. It is a print. Arms are also too baggy, but TNF seems to be doing that on all of their jackets these days. I think the nano-puff jacket has a superior fit and construction.

        Nice light puffer

Got this for a fall trip to Wyoming. I'd say it runs just a tad big. I'm 6 feet 205lbs and a large fit me well, I usually like XLs better for a lot of tops. It's a light puff coat. Comfortable to the 40s, but not super heavy on its own. Versatile enough to to wear out casually or for some hiking. Easy to pack. Synthetic and durable. Could layer it, but it's not an winter coat for outdoors. Combines well with a rain shell for windy conditions.

So can this jacket be worn as a top layer when temps fall down to the 40s to 30s with a long-sleeve shirt and a lightweight fleece?

Sounds like the jacket is warm ONLY for active sports or when temps are warmer as in 50s or as an insulating layer under a shell/insulated jacket in colder temps.

May not consider wearing in Cold New England winter weather as a top layer when temps are in the 30s-40s and winds can be blustery and brutal.

          awesome jacket

i own 3 of these jackets, different colors. in the winter i wear them every day

            Runs wide

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
            • Fit: Runs large

North Face quality but fit is very weird. The body of the jacket and the sleeves run wide. Fit is just too "regular" for modern day styles. It keeps you warm and is light weight.

This is my second thermoball I've purchased. Great weight and pack able. Extremely warm with or without layering. Looks good and these jackets a really are durable! Excellent pricing and true to fit!

I think this is a great jacket. I had ordered one in the past, but had to return it because it was too big. I normally wear a medium but their medium is a little bit larger. I went to a store to try on their jackets and found out that there are two types of fits: normal and active fit. The active fit hugs you a little tighter which I prefer. When I went to order this one online I didn't see an option to choose between the two types, but ordered a size lower and figured I'd just see which one came. I received the active fit and it fits perfectly. I'm 5'8, 155lbs. I have long arms and this still fit fine.

I was under the impression the jacket came with a pouch to store it in, but it just rolls into its own pocket (which is very easy to do). Overall I'm satisfied with the jacket. I haven't had to use it in very cold weather yet, but I assume if I did I would wear it underneath another layer. It's very lightweight and easy to move around in. I don't think this is a standalone jacket for very cold weather, but will do the trick for typical cold weather (hope that's not confusing).

            Love NF

I got this jacket to save weight while backpacking. I hiked the Smoky Mountain last week. 5 day 75 miles. Had this jacket and a thin rain jacket. Coldest night was 25F and 20mph winds. I felt fine walking around the shelter. Stuff it in its own pocket and makes a warm pillow. With winds lil high it did block a lot when worm by its self. It is super light and compacts smaller than a football. It does exactly what I wanted it to. Doesn't sweat me when the temp goes up. Zipper works good. Would be nice to have a inside pocket. I asked ppl on the trail how they like there's and no complaints as of yet.
I'm 6'1 180 lbs and ordered a large. Fits me just right with enough room to add a thermal shirt if it gets colder than 35F.
It has the fill or a field jacket liner with a thin layer of soft material on the it's nice and comfortable.
Fits about like my Apex bionic.

Good Jacket but too big in the body

The body of the jacket was bit too big for me, but other than that, this baby is money.

This is a very nice and extremely light weight jacket. It isn't made for freezing temperatures put is god for a light rain and cool weather, just as advertised. I feel I should get a lot of use and it's a good investment.

              Great packable jacket.

This is a great casual winter jacket. It works great as a standalone jacket in temperatures in the 30's and up. Great as a layering piece for skiing or when it gets colder. It is really low profile and low bulk, while retaining heat really well. It will be perfect for camping and backpacking. It packs down nicely into its own hand pocket. Great versatile insulated jacket. I do think it runs a little large. If you're in between sizes, go down.
