Warm, lightweight, packs well

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Gave this as a gift and he loves it so far. The jacket is true to size.
It's warm enough to go skiing in and packs down small which will be helpful for backpacking. Its great that the jacket can be stuffed into its own pocket.
He says he's likely to purchase another one in the future.

Can you hug a jacket back?

I've had my Patagonia Down Sweater for a couple of years now and love it. The down creates a soft warm setup which is extremely comfortable and versatile.

I start to wear this jacket (transitioning from the Nano Puff) when the weather starts to go below freezing. The fit is true to size, but I went up a size to add more flexibility with layering. I've used it several times as a ski jacket when it gets cold, and the extra size allows me to easily layer up without reducing mobility.

Great fit & great looking jacket. Very comfortable. Just the right weight.

Colorado Weather? No Problem.

This purchase really solidified for me why I am so faithful to the Patagonia brand (not that I needed anymore reason to like Patagonia). I live in Colorado ski country, and in the big city too, it fits in perfectly with both settings -- this jacket was much warmer than expected, and looks amazing! The material is quality, and the effectiveness of keeping me warm is even better. The sizing was spot on too, which is super important. I am seriously considering ordering another one in black to add to my jacket collection.

A ture Classic

This is one of the better down jackets on the market right now. The build quality is predictable and the fit is great. Patagonia also has a great warranty and repair program.

Patagonia wins again!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got this hoping it would work as a lightweight winter jacket (with layering figured in of course). I was right! Same amazing quality as all my other Patagonia gear, the material is durable. I've worn this while climbing/scrambling throughout dark sandstone caves/ridgelines. No rips are immediate damage to the downs. If you wear your downs gear the way its supposed to (heavily), there will be sweat/oil/elementals stains after time. Those aspects just add character to the garment I believe. A great addition to the collection. Layers great with a Patagonia Synchilla Snap T pullover too.

Great jacket!

I love this jacket! Own it in two colors. It is super warm and I love that is stuffs into its own pocket.

Dad loves it!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My dad is puffy obsessed--he's 6'5" with looong arms, and the XL fits him perfectly. The Ash Tan color is a little more khaki in real life, and it goes well with the earth tones he tends to wear.

warm, light-weight, practical

I bought this for my boyfriend, he wears it everyday! It looks great on him. It is so light weight and warm. Great for skiing, and just being outside in the winter. Not too puffy, making it very easy to layer with as well. You can also stuff it into it's own pocket and turns a little pillow! Awesome winter jacket from Patagonia.

It's a legend.

Not only is the latest color I purchased called "Legend Green", the jacket really is a legend. (It really is a stellar green, BTW) I have 4 or 5 of these Patagonia Down Sweaters and they all see their fair share of wear. From layering under field coats on our farm, layering for fall and winter hikes on the AT to quick errands around town when it's chilly, these jackets perform flawlessly. They're comfortable and warm...but not too warm like a lot of puffy jackets. I'm 6'0" and weight about 170. Medium fits me perfect. The current Down Seater has a slightly trimmer fit than years ago which personally I love. They're just right. Job well done, Patagonia! One happy repeat customer here.

Favorite Jacket

I've worn this many times in very cold weather. I've never been so warm in such a lightweight jacket. It's easy to pack because it takes so little space. 5/5 stars!

A must have

It's warm and comfy in the backcountry and soft and snuggly on Main Street. Better yet, it doubles for paints for people 1/8th your size.

    A must have

    Super Warm

I have this jacket in both the hooded and non-hooded version. Love them both as they are super warm. The perfect jacket for those colder days when you have to be outside. Fits true to size.

      My Great Down Jacket Review

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

So I recently purchased 7 different down jackets so I could wear and compare and select the one I liked best. This was my great down jacket review, not because the review was great, but because the breadth of comparisons was pretty extensive. The ones I compared were the Marmot Zeus, Marmot Tullus, Mountain Hardware Nitrous, Mountain Hardwear Micro Ratio, Patagonia Down Sweater, The North Face Trevail, and the Outdoor Research Tanscendent. I'll put comments on the others in the listings for each. The reason I selected these are that they all are basically medium-weight down jackets (not extreme light or heavy) and were comparable on the prices. Backcountry was having a sale and all these were marked down to between $123 to $160.
What I wanted was a top layer jacket without a hood (don't use hoods very often). I generally don't use down jackets like these as a layer under anything because of their bulk. I prefer a synthetic for that. I have a huge down jacket with a hood for very cold weather. I wanted one that was less bulky and more suitable for activities.
So the Down Sweater. The Down Sweater was the best of the bunch. The one I had was Deep Sea Blue and it's a nice looking color. .
Fit: The fit was good and normal. It wasn't so bulky that it restricted movement. The fit is regular and those who are used to athletic or trim fit may find it a bit larger than they are used to. I thought it fit true to size. I have to get XL because of wide shoulders and long arms. The sleeves may not be long enough for guys more than a couple inches taller than me. The bottom of the jacket hit between the top of my pelvis and my hip joints. The fit looks good too. What I mean by that is that it doesn't look too square or too slouchy. I have a Marmot Quasar (ultra-light down) that is really square in the shoulders. As a result it looks kind of weird and pointy at the end of the shoulders. The Down Sweater looks more natural.
Comfort: The jacket was very comfortable. The fabric feels great to the touch and the fill is a perfect balance of warmth without too much bulk. The hand pockets perfect in their positioning. This was the only one that had them positioned both a bit forward on the jacket (as opposed to the sides) AND had the pockets angled so that they receive the hands/arms at a natural angle. The neck and cuffs are basic but fine.
Misc: The Patagonia Down Sweater also had the best warmth to weight/bulk ratio with 800-fill down. Most the others had down with a lower loft rating. The Patagonia was among the more expensive but at a sale price of $160 was a great value.

      Great review!!

      Amazing!!

First off, I want to say that I'm 6'2" and 185 pounds and I bought the medium in black. The sleeves are the perfect length and the only minor complaint I have is that the waist is just slightly too tight and will hike up a bit when worn over jeans or thicker pants. That being said, it's hardly noticeable and not worth taking a star away. This jacket is very nice to have (when it's zipped all the way up) on a cold and windy day and is incredibly light. I wear it every day and I plan on wearing it many more.

        Warm

Bought one for the husband after he saw mine. It keeps him warm, it's lightweight, and easy to pack.

          No Brainer

Pack this jacket anytime you travel, it packs tightly and will probably be used even once on a trip to somewhere warm. This jacket is versatile- it can be dressed up and works with casual jeans.
