Hawk Pant

You gravitate towards the heights that only the birds can reach, which is why the Wear Colour Hawk Pant may be just the thing for you. Its lightweight, three-layer construction offers fully waterproof protection and high breathability for hot laps at the resort, and can also handle long days in the backcountry. And thanks to its bib design, you'll have extended coverage when you're drifting through waist-deep woods and hitting pillowy powder drops. The bib features a wicking jersey on its back for added comfort, as well as a handy mesh pocket to keep essentials close by.

For long hikes to new lines you've got inner thigh vents to cool you off when things start to heat up, and when it's time to make your descent, boot gaiters will keep billowing snow out all the way down. The leg cuffs feature tough Cordura reinforcements for durability and protection where breakdown often occurs, especially when hiking and exploring in the backcountry. To round things out, you've got tons of pockets to hold maps, tools, and other small pieces of gear you don't want to be without.

  • A versatile bib pant for resort ripping and backcountry adventures
  • Three-layer fabric offers waterproof protection and breathability
  • Inner thigh vents release heat when you start to work up a sweat
  • Ankle gaiters prevent snow from sneaking up your leg
  • Durable reinforcements around the leg cuffs prevent breakdown
  • Plenty of pockets keep your maps and gear organized and secure
  • Bib design offers extended coverage and a secure fit

Tech pants for the 6'7" crowd

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

It's been 12 years since I purchased new snowboard/ski pants mainly because I'm 6'7" and 198 lbs. and it's extremely difficult to find snowboard/ski pants that don't make me look like an idiot waiting for a flood that never comes. Or if I do find a pair that's long enough, they're generally in an XXL Or and XXXL and then the body is so blown out that I look like I'm getting ready to on a deep sea fishing adventure.

A few years ago, I purchased the Dakine Wyeast bibs because they were advertised as having a long inseam and....I did make those work for a season butI had to sag them quite a bit to get the bottoms of the bibs touch the top of my boots. I don't know if you've ever tried to sag bibs while maintaining great leg mobility, but it's no buens. The crotch ends up half way down your thigh and your mobility is pretty well shot. Plus, it just looks stupid.

Flashforward to this year, I was able to stop into the retail store at backcountry.com in West Valley, UT and must've tried on 30 pairs of snowboard/ski pants. Almost every single one was either too short or not technical enough. The very last pair I tried on was the WEAR COLOUR Hawk Bibs in a Large. They nearly perfect with the exception of being just a tad short. So then I tried on the XL and they fit like a dream! I don't have to sag them in order for them to touch and the body isn't overly roomy. In fact, they even bunch up a slight amount at the bottom. Although they don't sport GORE-TEX technology, WEAR COLOUR goes with something completely different; something called PineTech Membrane (proprietary to WEAR COLOUR) that contains recycled polyester and has a ecological DWR finish. I've worn these in everything from sleet to hail to graupel to blower pow and they've performed amazingly in all conditions. What else? The boot gaiter fits over both my snowboard boots and my ski boots. The zippers are plush, almost like crushed black velvet. Heck, even the zippers were individually wrapped in crepe paper for protection for whatever reason. The sand color is suuuuper sylish and looks sharp as hell, especially with the contrasting black zippers and black scuff guards. These are advertised as a being designed for freeriders and I'd say that describes these perfectly. They aren't too baggy but aren't too constricting either. I know that nobody's gotten laid in cargo shorts or pants since Nam but the cargo pockets on these bad boys sylish and functional. The only, and I stress ONLY, minor negative mark for these bibs is the front pocket. It's mesh instead of a solid stretchy fabric and my gigantic iPhone 8+ barely fits in there. But, like I said, it's minor and really no big deal. If I could, I'd give these bibs 6 stars but 5 will have to do. IMO, if you tend to be on the slimmer and taller side of the spectrum, these bibs won't stear you wrong.

Thank you for the thoughtful review, Ryan!!

Pow repellent

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

I have used these bib pants for 4 days (so far) of snowboarding deep powder days in Utah and they work as they should. They breathe well, repel moisture/keep powder out, and fit well. I'm 5' 11", 175lb, and 32/32 and wear the M sized bib which has enough room to move unconstricted while not using a ton of excess fabric. The gaiter fits over my Burton snowboard boots just fine.
Note that I have not put these bibs through the test of time yet, so I'll hop on and update my review to account for durability.
