Tour more efficiently, rip on the way down.
The free pivoting Voile Women's Switchback Telemark Ski Binding has separate tour and ski modes enabling touring with zero heel resistance, and then switches back into ski mode for the downhill. And with its smaller, more accommodating women's-specific size, the Switchback takes the fairer gender for some laps. In free-pivot mode, the Switchback provides an easier, more efficient stride, and your tips won't dive when breaking trail. Included heel elevators and a light-weight design further help conserve energy on the up-track. When you get to the top, you'll appreciate that this telemark binding's enclosed design eliminates ice buildup the 25mm riser height helps transfer your energy to your edge.

- Q & A
Almost to camp Muir/Mt RAinier with my Voile bindings and DPS Yvette skis-ski tour delight!
Soup de tour!
Do i ever love these bindings! The switch from tour to ski mode is the flick of a finger. And touring is a breeeereze when i have full range of motion. I was climbing up a stupidly steep section and i ended up falling forward and fell flat on top of my skis. Had i done that in my none tour specific bindings i would have done some damage to my legs.
two climbing wire sizes
i highly suggest these if you tend to do any sort of touring!
i bought mine in the short-my mondo size is 24.
Voilé Women's Switchback Telemark Binder
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I picked these up for my stepmom for Christmas, and she loves them. She had the Black Diamond 01s on her K2 Phat Luvs but she was experiencing the problem of the cartridges continually undoing themselves- both annoying and frightening for safety purposes. Remounted her skis with these (mounting templates almost match up exact, just had to move the heel piece slightly) and she is a much happier skier! They go up hills great, come down hills great. The Switchback is a great tele binding, would definitely recommend it for touring/resort skiing.
Easy peasy touring binding
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Love this binding - the switch from tour to ski is super simple (just flip the switch!) Replaced my 22Designs Bombshells with these (great binding, just not awesome for touring use) and am never changing bindings again.
Uphill performance is amazing: free-pivot, low-friction, feels like I'm floating. Downhill is wonderful too.
Fits just fine on my 21.5 mondo boots, which is always a concern. The narrower heel design on the women's specific model is clutch.
If you're looking for a downhill-only, hard-charging binding, this isn't for you. If you want all-mountain on and off piste versatility, get 'em!
Is the version for sale here the updated...
Is the version for sale here the updated heat-treated 410 stainless steel?
This is the 2011 version of the binding which is indicated as being made of the heat treated stainless steel.
Light and user friendly. I have never had a problem with ice or anything. I bought them when they first come out on the market. They were pricey but I'm glad I got them.
what's the difference between the women...
what's the difference between the women and men's version of switchback?
The women's version fits boots sized 23-25.5, using short rods, and a slightly smaller heel bail. You can get short rods for the mens version, too. Other than that, it's blue vs. red, and the price that is different.
The heel elevators are also a different size. The men's heel elevators are 65mm/100mm and the women's are 65mm/80mm. Backcountry has this listed incorrectly on their website right now, but you can go to the Voile website for correct product info.
