Cruise over treacherous trails.

Built for mountainous environments, the Vasque Men's Grand Traverse Hiking Shoe crushes rocky trails and tricky approaches with its stable platform and sure-footed grip. This hiking shoe uses suede leather for durability and PU-coated mesh for ample breathability. The dual-density EVA footbed cushions your foot with every step, and the molded EVA midsole absorbs shock.

Providing a solid foundation for long hikes, the shoe's Equalizer last balances performance and comfort with its fitted heel and arch support. The shoe's Vibram Ibex sole lays down serious traction with its lugged design, clawing over scree, wet slabs, and rock-strewn trails. Essential for climbers using this shoe for approaches, the shoe's back loop easily clips onto a climbing harness when you start your multi-pitch climb.

Extra Fabric hangs down in toe area

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 12

This could have been a really good shoe. Overall, the fit was very good (true to size) and they seemed well-constructed and looked good. But when I slipped them on, I could immediately feel something rubbing on my left toes. When I reached in, I could feel a fold of lining fabric on the top of the toe box that was hanging down. A similar fold was in the right shoe, but didn't bother me the same. I put them on several different times over a few days, and could always feel it. So, back to backcountry... I don't know if it was a quality control issue or if that is just how they were built. It may not be a problem for all.

Great for scrambling but go a size up

I just purchased these and used them for the first time during two-afternoon trips out in the Red Rock Canyon. The first day consisted of a lot of scrambling on both wet and dry sandstone of the Calico Tanks. Day two consisted of a trek up Turtlehead Peak in conditions that included a fair amount of rain, and as the elevation increased, blowing snow. I was very pleased with how the shoes performed, and I was very pleased with the purchase. The shoes held up very well and protected my feet in the varying conditions. Other reviews refer to the fact that they are narrow, but if you go a half size up, you should be fine. I own other Vasque shoes/boots, and I’ve never had shoes that were more durable. I highly recommend them.

    A great go-anywhere, do-anything shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11

These are great as an approach shoe on less technical routes, or as a hiking shoe on slightly more technical trails. For me, the fit was perfect and very comfortable. I typically wear a size 11 and can get away with a 10.5 sometimes. I got the 11 and they're comfortable in the office and still when I hit the crag after. I'm definitely glad I got the 11 rather than a 10.5. Even the 11 is an aggressive fit. I have a somewhat narrow foot but I think most mid width feet should work fine with these as well. I got the magnet/pesto colorway and I love that it's understated enough that it's not out of place in a casual office setting.

    very narrow

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 11.5

These have a very narrow toe box, definitely more narrow than the other Vasque shoes I have had. I love the soft and flexible sole, but these just didn't fit.

    Too soft for steep climbing

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10.5

Have used them for alpine linkups and climbing up to 5.6 granite slab (eg Tuolumne and Yosemite Valley). Solid hiking shoe that provides some extra traction to make hopping boulders and scrambling easy approaches more fun.

They're really soft though, comparable to a neutral running shoe. Probably more comfortable for long hikes than stiff approach shoes like Tennies, but they don't hold an edge so they won't help you climb vertical terrain with smaller feet. If you want to do big alpine days climbing a lot of technical rock without bringing rock shoes then go with something stiffer for sure.

These aren't stiff or supportive so it helps to have strong feet to do a lot of milage on rough terrain.

Durability is great. No real signs of wear on the upper after a year or so of decent milage and jamming them in cracks.

May be a personal fit thing, but my toe hits the hard front of the shoe on steep downhills. Might be worth trying them walking down a steep slope before purchasing.

    Traversing Variability

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I have had these shoes for a little over a year now and they are still holding strong and the trend is showing minimal signs of wear. I have worn these shows in various climates and environments, with them never disappointing and keeping my feet comfortable the entire time. The vibram sole is nice and sticky, with the added protection in the toe area coming in super handy when on very rocky areas. These took a little bit of time to get broken in, but once they are these are extremely comfortable.

    Vasque Lasts!

From my husband: Very comfortable and light. Great support. I've owned Vasque shoes for many years and they hold up very well compared to other casual hiking shoes.

Great all around shoe for a climber

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9.5

Have had these for a while now, used them on gnarly scree approaches, on snow, marshes, wood cutting, and casual like. The toe box is a little narrow for me compared to La Sportiva and scarpa, but the stability for unstable ankles is much better than Sportivas. The heel cup where it hits your achilles tendon could use a little comfortizing, but other than that I'm satistfied.

    Great for most environments

I've had these shoes for around 4 years now and they've been awesome. Started with them in Costa Rica, then daily wear shoes, then used them more as light hiking/approach shoes. Solid grip and super comfortable. After all this time and many trips in these shoes, they're finally starting to wear. The heel is separating a bit (but nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of super glue) and the laces broke (easy fix). The soles are definitely worn now but that hasn't seemed to really impact the grip. Love these shoes.

    Liking but not loving these

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

I bought these as a multi-purpose shoe, and I'm not crazy about the fit. They fit the length and width of my foot but they have a "stretchy" panel on the outside of the toe box which means my little toe moves around too much on rocky trails. They also have a very low contact point around the heel, so the ankle support is not great.

If you're rock scrambling and need the sticky rubber soles these are great, or if you are hiking on relatively smooth trails you'll be okay, but these are not a great substitute for a low top lightweight hiking boot in my opinion.

That said I do like the styling. One reason I bought these is that they don't look like a "standard" hiking shoe, and I can wear them in public with shorts or jeans and not feel like a tool.

Edit...these just conitnue to be uncomfortable. If I wear them for any walk/hike over 3 or 4 miles I start to get a hot spot on my right ankle. I've tried every combination of socks and nothing works. Guess these are going to Goodwill...

How does this shoe compare to the Scarpa Zen? Which is wider?

    Last forever

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I got these for my boyfriend as a gift to replace his previous pair, which lasted him through 4 years of regular hiking. He loves the way they're supportive but not restrictive like a full boot, and how quickly they dry after crossing streams and rivers. He also can't stop raving about the sticky rubber soles and the way his heel never slips either. This pair is exactly the same as the old version too-- Vasque must've known it had a really good thing going already.

Last month I was hiking to a waterfall near Gimmelwald, Switzerland. An old Swiss lady was sitting on a bench near the trail and invited my wife and me to sit on the bench for a quick break. We accepted the offer.

The Swiss lady and I conversed for a few minutes in German. I told her we were hiking to the waterfall. She looked at us sideways and informed us there would still be snow on the trail (I bought the Vasque Breeze 2.0 low GTX just for hiking in the snow but I wasn't wearing them!!) I told her we would be fine. She scrutinized our footwear, gave her approval, and off we went.

The Swiss lady was correct on two counts: There was snow on the trail close to the waterfall. And our footwear performed well.

These are my go-to shoes, though. They fit well and just keep getting better looking with time. I highly recommend them!

I'm usually a 9.5 in shoes. I went with the 9.5 in these and they were snug at first but they do stretch a little for a more customized fit!

    Awesome all around shoe

These shoes are reasonably stiff and have a nice sticky rubber sole. For me that makes them great for steep scrambles, climbing approaches as well as commuting to work on my bike and mountain biking as well. Perfect shoe to throw on that can handle anything you plan to do in a day. Wide flat footers beware though I have a more narrow foot and a high arch and they fit perfectly.

I was looking for a stylish and functional shoe that would meet the needs of outdoor footwear I am accustomed too. I like the stiff shank of this shoe and it can handle boulder hopping and skree scrambling with equal prowess. The ventilation is quite good and I seldom get sweatlogged. Of course, this means that water can easily find its way into the vents and is not at all waterproof. However, it is quite quick to dry.
I would recommend this shoe to an avid outdoor's person who likes to follow the unbeaten trail.

I really like how these shoes fit, feel, and look, but the half-inch webbing that is part of the lacing system is detaching from the shoe. Though this webbing appears to be a single piece that wraps around the heel (where it also becomes the heel-pull), I've discovered that it is actually 3 different pieces which appear to have been only glued in place, temporarily, in my case. Sadly, I haven't even used these shoes for any serious outdoor activities yet! I'm hoping I can get a refund, or a replacement if this particular pair is bogus.

Why take your climbing shoes. These babies will do just fine.

Summit of the Grand Teton via Upper Exum

    Love the shoes.

330 miles and 115,000 vertical and still going.
They have been jammed, dunked, scraped, used and abused during this time. I've done 18 miles and 9k in a day with backpacking gear and they crushed the trail. You can run, climb, backpack, hike and even look damn good in them. I have a small rip on the side where the mesh meets. but all and all for that much abuse, they have more than impressed. I already have a 2nd pair sitting in the closet waiting for their chance to shine. I wear an 8.5 or 9 in almost everything. I have a 9 in these.

I use these for everyday wear, flat-pedal mountain biking, and really anything adventurous - and they are are awesome for it! True adventure shoes.

I recently wore these on a camping trip in the Sawtooth Mountains. I used them for day hikes, approaches, a two-day backpacking excursion, and even trail running. They felt great, were breathable, and very reliable. The toe box is on the narrow side, but for good reason! It makes approaches and anything technical much easier. Like I said, I even felt fine running up a pretty steep incline.

Approach shoes, for me, are often hard to size and when i do get the pair that fits right, they lack either the support, stability, climbing surface, rubber, etc to make them an all around great shoe -

This shoe has it all - it's not boxy like other brands, slim in profile - but supportive where you need it.

The climbing surface is also really nice, i've done a few easy scramble to 5th class solos in these and they performed very well - I never felt like I was WISHING for my rock shoes!

They fit pretty true to size - i'm close to a 9 to 9.5 and went down a size for the snugger fit - and they are perfectttt! (half size down if you plan on doing more technical climbing in them!)
