Troy Lee DesignsTailgate Cover

Premium protection for your tailgate.

You bought a pickup so you could easily transport your bikes, skis, board, and anything else you happen to add to your adventure closet in the future, but don't jump the gun and damage it by just tossing your mountain bike in and hitting the road. Take a little extra time and invest in the Troy Lee Designs Tailgate Cover to shield your tailgate from bumps and bruises while safely transporting your other most prized possession to the singletrack. TLD made sure to use durable materials that will manage abrasion and resist fading over time, and it includes padding along the tailgate and back for complete tailgate protection. Securing your bikes won't take all afternoon either; the hook-and-loop straps are easy-to-use and deliver peace of mind that your bikes will arrive at your destination in one piece. If you've got a mid-sized pickup, go with the Small, with the Large working best for full-sized trucks.

Did not work well

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ordered a size small for my 1996 gmc sierra, and it fill well. The straps and material seem nice, but once I used it the padding material compressed where the frame of my bike sits on the tailgait. I already had a scratch on my frame from trying to haul bikes with a blanket over the tailgait, but this pad ended up taking more paint off. I should say I spent some time driving on washboardy dirt roads, but who isn't when you are running shuttles? I am still using it but I cut a peice of carpet to put in between the tailgate and the pad for extra padding and is working well now.

I put this on a honda ridgeline, it fit well, but the tailgate latch is a bit too low on the honda which is a minor inconvenience

You can trust this pad

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Won't scratch your bike or truck, and will leave bikes in place on the road

Safe and Sound

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Rest assured your bikes are safe with this tailgate cover. We drove down south, which was about 5 hours, and this thing is a bike saver. We've had up to 4 bikes on here and not on scratch on a bike or the truck happened. The large fit on a 2012 F-150 FX4 perfectly!

Truck Pad is the only way to go

Easiest way to load bikes. Holds 6 bikes and provides great protection for the tailgate. Proven

I've been using the size Small on my older (2003) Toyota Tundra. As with most tailgate covers, on/off is super easy and quick in case you have a cover or only get rides in on the weekend. The inside material facing the truck is super plush to limit scratches on your tailgate. The size small has velcro holds for 5 bikes to keep them from moving around in the back of the truck. Additionally, the flap for the latch has velcro to hold up in case you have a backup camera.
