Troy Lee Designs Ruckus Short - Men's
Troy Lee DesignsRuckus Short - Men's

Bring the ruckus.

From lift-serviced laps in the Rockies to alpine epics in the Swiss Alps, the Men's Ruckus Short by Troy Lee Designs serves up the trail-ready attitude needed to attack wild stretches of trail. The Ruckus sits just below your knees, accommodating riders rocking knee pads on downhill shuttles, but without being overly baggy for pedaling uphill. Four-way stretch fabric promotes fluid flexibility, regardless if you're hitting features in the bike park or climbing uphill for hours at a time. Unzip the leg vents for active cooling on rides where the temperature reaches oppressive realms.

Softening the sting of jarring trails and rocky outcroppings, the included chamois actively wicks moisture while dissipating vibration and reducing saddle abrasion. This chamois is removable, so you can rock your favorite padded liner short with the Ruckus. For a precise fit, adjustable waist tabs prevent this short from sliding off during fast movements. And because you rarely ride without gadgets, snacks, or tools, a variety of secure-stashing pockets make easy work of carrying all your riding accessories.

  • Attack the trail with rugged durability and stretch
  • Four-way stretch for riding without restriction
  • Sits just below the knee for optimal coverage
  • Large zippered cargo pockets secure essentials
  • Air 2.0 liner with quick-drying, breathable mesh
  • Chamois dissipates jarring trail vibration

Solid Lift Service Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great pair of shorts from TLD. In my opinion they are a little bit on the heavier side, but they certainly seem durable. I actually really like the liner that comes with the shorts as well. On trail they are a bit heavier than I'd like and I wish they vented a little better, but using them for lift service is fantastic.

The Best Gets Better

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Troy Lee has always been one of my favorite companies out there. They really know how to make a product that performs well and looks better than most. I owned the last version of these pants and the only complaints I had were that I was afraid of loosing my phone out of the pocket and the chamois broke down quickly. The new Ruckus addresses both of these problems with and updated chammy and zipper pockets. Now I have zero complaints!

Not So Good

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I've bought Troy Lee Mountain Bike Shorts before and liked them. However, these Ruckus shorts have several deficiencies as follows:
The legs are cut so tight they will not fit over my knee guards.
One of the front pockets is not zippered which isn't much use on a mountain bike trail.
The pockets are small.
One zippered pocket is halfway between the hip and bum - -very inconvenient location.
The air vent zippers, which held small items on previous Troy Lee shorts, now are just zippers with no space.
The front zipper to undo the pants is not covered giving the pants an unfinished look.
The material the pants are made of does stretch, but since the legs are so tight, the pants don't hang well at all.

On the plus side, the zippers are stout.

Great Park Shorts!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shorts rock! They well ventilated, stretchy, have zipper pockets for all different items and are tailored well so that you don't any restriction of your motion while riding. Only think i don't like is that my seat sometimes catches the crotch of the shorts when i'm trying to get my butt back. Other than that these are my favorite park shorts by far!!!

Almost perfect but a few small flaws

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 38 waist - the largest

The quality of tailoring is exquisite. The zippers have large teeth and are very sturdy. The material is bullet tough. The minor flaws are
1) the legs are not very baggy and I am unable to wear my knee guards and 2) while there are 3 zippered pockets, the one on the back of the waist can hold only a power bar and one of the front pockets is quite small.

Awesome Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use these shorts for both trail rides and downhill. Lots of nice features like thigh vents, lots of pockets, and a durable lightweight material. These are by far my favorite shorts.

Good Stuff!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 32.5

This is a sweet MTB baggy short. They're a perfect do-it-all length, and have proven to be super comfy and durable. I love the zippered pockets, and inner thigh zippered vents. They're definitely on the pricey-er end of the spectrum, but if you've got the cash to drop, they're definitely worth the investment.

Super Comfortable

Love these shorts, for DH and even for pedaling

Making the best better

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 30"

I rode in the previous version of this short almost exclusively last year, and loved them. For this year, they have only gotten better. The fit is still spot on but the improvements to chamois are noticeable. These are a great option for trail / all mountain riding but they are tough enough for the occasional lift-served day.

Best MTB short out there

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Size Bought: 34

The TLD ruckus has become my favorite MTB short out there on the market right now. I have owned last year's short for about a year now and have gravitated towards them on most rides - from short all mountain rides behind the house to the lift-served days at Deer Valley.

TLD made some serious updates to these shorts for this year. One of which is the chamois. A lot of chamois that come "stock" with shorts are pretty weak and not too impressive (to be honest). With an updated fit, better support and a nicer feel to them, the new chamois is a serious bonus with these shorts. Another nice thing about these shorts is the bomber quality they boast along with incredible ventilation and breathability.

If you are on the fence with sizing, maybe a 33 or 35 - size up on these. You can always adjust the waist straps on these to get that snug and comfortable feeling.

The new Ruckus is worth the money and have risen to the top of the list for MTB shorts out there this year with some seriously crucial updates made.

Hit me up if you are looking to get a sweet kit for the season or just looking to add another pair of shorts to the wardrobe... can never have enough - that Maroon is fresh to death!

Good stretch

Great shorts with a nice amount of stretch to them. Come with a nice chamois and fit true to size.

great shorts!

  • Fit: True to size

These shorts are great, the liner is awesome! They are on the longer side... I wear them with pads and they fit nicely over the top without getting bunched up. I love the cell phone pocket too!

Great all around baggy bike shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Great design for pedaling up and durable enough for the ride down. These shorts have survived a few good crashes and still look new.
