Ventrix Insulated Jacket

Built to handle days spent bagging peaks in the shoulder seasons, The North Face Men's Ventrix Insulated Jacket tackles the rapid change in weather you're sure to experience. An adjustable hem customizese your protection against the elements, while the elastic cuffs cinch snugly to add comfort on blustery days.

  • Warm, lightweight, and sport-oriented jacket for the mountains
  • Burly, stretchy nylon construction resists abrasions
  • DWR-finish helps deflect moisture in passing showers
  • Slim fit keeps the warmth close to your core
  • Synthetic insulation throughout traps precious body heat
  • Underarm venting and perforations allow excess heat to escape
  • Multiple pockets throughout stash all of your alpine necessities

Took this jacket to Mount Hutt in NZ in August, and wore under a shell jacket, and was to toastie, on all bar the coldest afternoons. Is really stretchy and doesn’t restrict movement, and just a really comfortable jacket to wear. Will definitely be giving it workout in Whistler in January.

Awesome jacket!

Great jacket! Kept me warm on a bunch of backpacking trips and around town. It is a slim jacket so if you are a chonky boi like me then order a size up. I'm 5' 9" 215 lbs and the Large was a little tight.

Picked this up when it went on sale and was pleasantly surprised. This is along the same lines as the Atom LT or Nano air jackets. I want to say this is technically superior though. It blocks wind much better in my opinion. I mainly use this as a mid layer or an outer layer. It’s great by itself with a light under layer prolly to the 30’s. I team this up with my Filson Mackinaw as a mid layer and it’s ridiculously warm into the single digits. Great product! #goatworthy

Thanks so much for the informative review Will. We really appreciate it!

Love this Jacket

This jacket is a perfect to bring touring. On cold mornings I use it as an under layer, and when it starts warming up I take off my warmer ski jacket and just wear the Ventrix. It keeps me warm when I am skinning for long periods at a time, but it doesn't get too hot either. The jacket has enough ventilation to keep me from getting to hot when I'm hiking. I've also taken this jacket out on days where is was a little windy and it felt like I was wearing a wind shell. There is plenty of room for me to layer up if need be and the cuff at the end of the sleeves does a good job at keeping all my layers underneath the jacket. This being said I have had jackets where the that cuff was too tight and was uncomfortable, and that was not the case with the Ventrix. I fell in love with this jacket and started wearing it all the time. It was initially intended for touring but it is so comfortable that I have made it my everyday Jacket.

Best middle layer jacket I've ever had

It's very comfortable and warm, quickly dries. I wear it all the time. I like how light it is. The forearm part is more durable. I have two of these jackets!

    Warmer than I'd expected

I have a Patagonia nano puff and I'd honestly choose this over that any day of the week. It surpassed my expectations in the warmth department. Took it down to Dead Horse Point a month ago in freezing temps and all I needed underneath was a thermal underneath. This was my third North Face purchase this winter and none have disappointed yet.

    Great Mid or outer layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

This is a great Mid layer that I used for resort Skiing. It is warm enough to be worn by itself on dry days but thin enough to layer underneath a shell. 5'8'' 155lbs and the Medium was a perfect fit. The burly material on the forearms will clearly stand up to years of use and the synthetic insulation will keep you warm while wet. This is a great option that is cheaper than alternatives such as the Atom LT.

    Breathable and comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I am 6'0, 175 and a large fits me well. This jacket works well for activities in the cold because it is breathable. Good mid layer. I get hot really easily so I use it as my only layer for snowshoeing or trail running in cold temps and I stay warm enough. For backcountry touring it works great on the uphill then just throw a softshell over it for the down.

good for chilly, not my idea for winter

Used this coat for a week to try to see if could weather the weather.
I didn't love it for me, but I stayed warm in the early winter.
I think this was more 'me' than the coat itself.
I am used to wearing a thicker garment, and this coat didn't offer the same feel

      Warm, Light, and bright

Seriously though it is one of the lightest jackets I have. It feels like one of the Arcteryx lightweight jackets such as proton lt and provides just as much warmth as one of them! That is saying a lot considering this is from The North Face and costs about $100 less than most Arcteryx jackets!

      I recommend

This is a great insulated jacket. The material would be similar to a puffer jacket. It’s not stiff at all. I got the aster blue and the website accurately reflects the actually jacket. I’m 6.4 and 190lbs. Fits nicely just past my waist and the sleeves fit great at 34/35. I only give it 4/5 because I wasn’t aware the material would be as soft shell as it is. I ended up buying the apex bionic 2 as well to get a little more stiffness. Both great jackets for mild/moderate conditions.

        Perfect Puffy

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit: True to size

The North Face's Ventrix is one of 2017's best gear released. Most puffy jackets have 60 grams of insulation, but the Ventrix is stuffed with 80 grams of Heatseeker synthetic insulation. It has both warmth and weight comparable to your favorite down sweater. Not only does it keep you warm, but it has micro-vents in the back and under the arms, plus has additional durability on the front of your arms. It regulates temperature really well and I used it all fall spring and winter. I got both the hooded and non-hooded version. The hooded version is warmer, but the non-hooded is also great to have. I loved mine so much that I had to get my husband one. He used it as both a stand-alone jacket down to the low 30's and as a mid-layer underneath my ski shell on really cold days in the 20's or below.

        Great Jacket

I've got a couple of these (hooded, non hooded) and love them. Definitely the best option and the most friendly on the wallet.

        Great Mid Layer

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: M

I initially ordered the Arcteryx Atom LT, which alas does not fit me (Medium was too small, and large way oversized). So I moved on and bought the ventrix and I really love it ! It's warm, breath well so you dry quickly. I used it in the low 20's for skiing and was fine all day.
So why 4 stars ? Because really the one I want would be a summit series without the hood, and it does not exist. The wrist cuff in particular are nicer on the summit version but is it worth the overpricing of the summit series,. definitely not.

Overall I highly recommend this item for any outdoor activities.
Bonus : The color selection is awesome, it's too bad that the 2018 one tend to go back to more "boring" colors

        North Face Ventrix

This Jacket is great around town and up in the mountains. Perfect light weight jacket for mid-late spring or fall. Breathes really well so you don't get really sweaty while hiking around.

Would you mind sharing what size Ventrix you purchased, and how it fit? I'm about 2" shorter, and 10lbs heavier with broad shoulders and generally fit (no pot belly).

The North Face Ventrix Insulated Jacket

I get hot quickly when I'm active, so I really like how this jacket vents. The insulation is almost foam-like and has slits in it. As you move those slits open up and let air through, but when your still they close up and keep heat in.

The North Face Ventrix Insulated Jacket

I get hot quickly when I'm active, so I like the breathability of this jacket a lot . It's sharp too. I have a compact build and the fit is slightly lanky for me. Long in the arms and a bit tight in the shoulders. Still wearable though.

              How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
              Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
              Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
              Hip:
Measure the hip circumference at the fullest part of the seat, keeping the tape horizontal around the body.
              Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
              Sleeve Length:
Measure the distance from the prominent bone at center back neck, across the shoulder, over the bent elbow to the center of the wrist bone.
