ThermoBall Insulated Jacket

The North Face ThermoBall Insulated Jacket is back, bringing another season of lightweight, packable warmth to your backpacking trips, snow-covered ski slopes, and everyday life. ThermoBall insulation mimics the look and feel of down, trapping your body heat to keep you warm while you're on the move—it even compresses down so you can stow it in a pocket and take it with you wherever you go. And because it's synthetic, ThermoBall insulation stays warm when you get wet during a misreported "powder morning" that in all actuality is rain up to 8,000 feet.

  • Compressible warmth for active days in the mountains
  • Synthetic insulation offers lightweight warmth in all conditions
  • Redesigned bottleneck quilting baffle pattern reduces cold spots
  • Elastic cuffs and drawcord hem seal the icy air out
  • Stows into own pocket for convenient packing on trips
  • Slim fit for easy layering beneath a hardshell jacket

Good jackets for me

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

First time purchasing this jacket. It fully cover my request. For the the early winter and fall, it can warm me very well, but only negative thing: it is Little bigger, it is not slim fit. I bought M, i am 154lbs, 6ft. I wear it everyday, working or travel,

Love the woodchip camo print

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Great to hike in or just to hangout at camp. Love the camo print. Since I'm a female I can't really comment on the fit. I just really liked the camo. So I got it. And I LOVE it. :)

Warm Mid-layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Apparently a majority thinks this fits large you guys must be toothpicks then. I'm 5'9 175 and this is a slim fit (size large)and the fit on the arms tight, circumference wise. And I'm not even that muscular.
Sleeve length is correct at about a 35in. in dress shirt.

This!
I'm doing a return right now for the same reason. I'm 5'9", 165, 32" waist, and the Large is too tight on me.
I thought something was wrong with the waist cinch at first. Nope, it's just "slim-fit".

Great piece!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I've been looking at synthetic down sweaters and jackets for awhile now. I chose this over Patagonia's Puff Ball line, as Patagonia's style now looks like you're wearing a 33 gallon trash bag. Fits and looks great! Very warm, but very light, packable. I've worn it skiing, sitting outside on my deck, and out on the town. I like to think of this piece as a sweater for layering.

I like the recessed cuffs, zippered hand pockets, and the inside pocket just fits my iPhone 7Plus. The zipper works great and doesn't catch on anything.

What a versatile layering piece of clothing, and it looks great too.

Great piece!

Fantastic Under or Outerlayer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L

After much research, I bought this mid-layer over the Patagonia Nano Puff. My intent is to use it as an underlayer skiing, hiking, and cold weather bikepacking. The Nano Puff is windproof due to it's interior lining, but this also greatly restricts breathability.. The Nano Puff exterior is 20 dernier thickness, which is fine if you don't plan on bushwacking with it. The Thermoball is 15 dernier in the classic colors, which feels fragile. However, the 3 matte colors have a 30 denier exterior thickness. I felt that with backpacks straps and bushes, this would offer more protection from the fabric tearing. So I got the Urban Blue Matte color. I can wear it around town without fear, plus the 30 denier adds to the wind protection. The Nano Puff has elastic cuffs at the sleeve ends, and the Thermoball's elastic bands are on the inside of the sleeves, about an inch from the end.. So far I haven't gotten any wind up the sleeves. The fit on both jackets is a slim fit, and both were true to size and looked great. At 208 lbs, the Large was perfect. I couldn't even zip up the medium with my 36" waist, and the XL was too big and bulky for my frame.

Great layering piece for in-bounds ridin

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I say in-bounds riding because trying to hike around in this thing would be miserable. But for sitting on lifts in unfavorable weather, this is your piece. Super warm and really comfortable but i will say it is a bit bulky. If layering i would recommend this style with no hood so you don't have a congregation of hoods bulking up. If skiing or boarding i would only recommend this as a layering piece and not a snow coat or outer layer.

Family Gift

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Gave this to dad who travels quite a bit. He loves the packability and fit. Also stays as warm as he wants to be.

Nice Jacket

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I love the look and feel of this jacket. I'm 6'0 ft, 195 lbs and wish I ordered a bigger size. After reading all the comments I decided to not order my usual XL size and just ordered the large. I have broad shoulders and chest that made the fit not as comfortable when zipped up. Going to send back and get a XL.

Versatile Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really like the Thermoball! It is simple, warm, and super functional. I mostly wear it as a midlayer when snowboarding on really cold days but it works as an everyday cold weather puffy as well!

Loving the Redesign

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I've always been a fan of the Thermoball Jacket and I really love the way they redid the baffles so the fill doesn't move around as easily. This is a perfect mid-layer for active pursuits and it's still stylish enough to be worn to the office or out on the town.

Did TNF Change Their Sizes???

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

This is my 3rd Thermoball. The first two were perfect. Now, for some reason, even though I ordered the same size, the jacket is too small. I am very unhappy right now.

Warm!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Perfect jacket for cold weather or cold and wet weather. Warm and wind resistant. The fit is great and it layers very well. You will get lots of compliments on the look.

the better version

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

look a little different than everyone and their cousin who religiously wear the patagonia nano-puff. look a little cooler. save 5 cents.

Great looking and light

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

is more thiner than I though. Fits to size, since I normally buy small because Im medium on NF products

Disappointment

North face Fit perfectly, looked sharp, fortunately it was not a gift, before cutting tags off I examined it. Many loose threads. Quality control missed this one-Not good -called up for return. Two weeks later still waiting for credit

    Surprisingly warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

It runs longer in size than expected. I used this for more urban environments but would move up to a size large for use in the wilderness to cover my wrist just a bit better. The jacket is a great basic warm layer that will get you from A to B and is lightweight and packable without sacrificing warmth. My only critique is that does not have any internal chest pockets. While this is minor it makes the jacket less functional for daily use if you like to keep your wallet or other belongings out of your pant pockets.
This jacket was warm in temps as low as 26 F.
I would recommend this jacket to a friend.

    Thermoball versus Patagonia Nano Puff

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Personally, I prefer the stitching pattern of this garment to the "brick wall" pattern of the Nano Puff; and I was moved to choose TNF over Patagonia by repeated reviews saying the Nano P:uff snags and the stitching comes loose. Plus, there are certain colors from TNF that are brighter than Patagonia; and I guess I am a "visual" person. Very satisfied with this garment, compared to my wife's Nano Puff.

    Bad quality

I bought this and the sewing all over has really bad quality. Really disapointed. Now I´m in southamerica and can´t make any return. Is the last time I buy with you.

      How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
      Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
      Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
      Hip:
Measure the hip circumference at the fullest part of the seat, keeping the tape horizontal around the body.
      Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
      Sleeve Length:
Measure the distance from the prominent bone at center back neck, across the shoulder, over the bent elbow to the center of the wrist bone.
