- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I am a professional DJ and initially purchased this to carry my gear+vinyl. For that purpose, it has worked great and I'm really glad it can carry 12" vinyl in it.
Aside from DJ gigs, I recently took this on a 4-day trip and used it in combination with the Base Camp Duffel (medium). I could have probably fit everything I needed into the backpack itself had it not been for the athletic gear (+extra shoes). I brought this one on a standard jetblue flight with no problems. I was on an even smaller jetblue plane on my return but still no problems. I never want to check luggage again so this bag has certainly helped that cause.
While it does fit underneath the seat in front of you, it sticks out a bit and you sacrifice some leg/feet room. I'm 6'1" so I need all the room I can get! Luckily, the flight was only a little over 2+ hours. I would have stored it in the above compartment had it been any longer. The laptop compartment zips out and lays flat. The intention of this was so that you can put it through the security xray in this position. Security will still make you take your laptop out and put it in a bin so just a heads up.
The look of the bag is great. It's very sleek and designed well. I'm not sure how well this would hold up in a downpour but light rain and snow shouldn't be an issue.
There's also plenty of organizational pockets and compartments for you to keep track of smaller items. I am super stoked on this bag and recommend it for short trips and if you just so happen to be a DJ.
