The North FaceMiss Metro Down Parka - Women's

Elegant protection from the cold.

The North Face Women's Miss Metro Down Parka provides all the winter weather protection you need on your urban travels. Quilted 550-fill down insulation warms you from your thighs to your head without weighing you down. The new iridescent taffeta fabric provides an eye-catching look while repelling light moisture, and the smooth satin lining helps this jacket glide over your urban apparel.

The Miss Metro has a regular fit with a mid-thigh length to cover you fully in frigid weather. Its hood is insulated and removable in case there's nothing but sun surrounding a cold day, and the chin guard prevents your chin from uncomfortable rubbing against the zipper. Slide your smartphone in the zippered interior pocket and keep your headphones out of your way with the cord guide, then listen to your favorite playlist as you walk to work.

Nice jacket, proportions off for me

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

pretty color, warm, different stitching is appealing...however, the proportions of length seem to be different on this style compared to other North Face coats I've tried on. The Medium was similar in fit to other coats, EXCEPT the sleeves were much longer than other jackets I've tried. I'm returning as a result :-(.

Unanswered Question

Does the hood have snaps or a draw-string?

Like a Wearable Sleeping Bag But Cuter

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

I bought this parka last spring when it was on sale in the black. After reading the reviews, I figured for sure I’d need a size up and bought a medium. Imma have to be the contrary one and say I actually think this runs small. I exchanged it for a small and, honestly, I probably could have gotten an x-small. Small works b/c I can wear the currently-rad bell sleeve shirt under this coat w/o the sleeves bunching in my armpits like every other coat I own (and also wear layers if need be).

The pockets have one side fleece (I wish it was all fleece in there) but have zippers and are nice and deep so you can jam a lot of used tissues in there and forget about them. The main zipper has two zippers so I can zip up to my neck and then unzip around my legs so I don’t feel like I really am wearing a sleeping bag.

I think it’s fabulously warm but maybe some people should take what I’m saying w/ a grain of salt. I generally run hot and like it cold so I don’t break this out until it’s well under 32F. I live in Philadelphia and I see women rocking down parkas at 60F and I think some of these reviews may be written by these people. If you’re always super cold, you’ll have to layer. If you’re more like me and hate being overly hot, you probs won’t until it’s below zero.

It’s comfy, to the point where I worry I’m too comfy to look good but let me tell ya, it’s a chic coat. I can wear it to the office and still look professional. It’s also fitted and I think the quilted design helps w/ the figure-flatteringness of it all. My one complaint (ok, my second, the half fleece pockets are a bummer) is that after my first 1.5 weeks of wearing this (in a normal boring way, not doing jumping jacks or waving my arms excessively) almost every day, I started to see some feathers escaping from my back arm/armpit area. It was only a couple but I’ve got my eyes peeled b/c losing down would be no bueno indeed.

Over all, I’m a fan. It’s comfy and cute and warm. I think the cons are so minor and the pros so good that it’s worth it. Get it, girrrrrl.

Love this coat! Warm. Lightweight. Fits perfectly.

Perfect for Michigan

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I love this coat! It is perfect for our cold Michigan winters. It's very warm and it stops the wind as well. I did order a size larger just because I like a looser fit. The length is perfect too. It's very light and not confining. Highly recommend this coat! This was my first purchase from Backcountry. Always a little hesitant about ordering items online but I'm glad I did. I have since made several purchases with this company and always satisfied.

Great Longer Coat

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I purchased this parka for my mother. She absolutely loves it when she decides to go out into the mountains for a drive or has to shovel the walk way. She expressed that she loved the longer length because it helps to keep a lot more heat trapped inside the jacket. My mother is about 5' 9" and 145 pounds and I purchased her a Medium.

Won't keep your legs warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

I purchased this coat specifically to keep my thighs warm on the days when the temps drop to single digits. I was incredibly disappointed to find that it didn't keep me any warmer than my waist-length Eddie Bauer Yukon coat. It was as if nothing was covering my legs at all!
I exchanged this coat for the Patagonia Down With It Parka.

Not a winter jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this a while ago and this is such a thin jacket does not handle New England winters or fall at times as well. Too thin, wind blows right through. Unfortunately Backcountry doesn't offer a policy on used items over 30 day otherwise I would invest in a warmer parka.

Disappointed!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I've been saving up to purchase this particular coat and it finally went on sale. I ordered the Large, which fit perfectly with room for a thick sweater underneath. When it arrived, I was very disappointed. The quality seemed very low for TNF and for the price I paid. I looked around at other companies and found a MUCH BETTER down coat (the exact same style and length) with a -40 below rating from Eddie Bauer for 1/2 the price. It even comes with a fur trimmed hood! The fabric on the EB coat is higher quality and the workmanship is far superior. So, this coat is going back. I'm glad I looked around and didn't settle for this one! :(

Love it

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just got it today and wore it out for the first time. I absolutely love it! I've had a white Metropolis for a long time and it was nice to finally get a new coat. Got it in black and it fits well and it's nice and warm! Definitely suggest it.

conflicting information in the description - is the coat 600-fill or 550-fill down?

Thank you for pointing this out! We'll get that updated. This jacket is 550 fill - here are the tech specs from TNF's site.

Too Big

This jacket is awesome, however the little lady is very little and this was simply too big... but the jacket is so nice, she was so bummed it didn't fit... she is 5'4" 105# and very petite, the small was too big, so we exchanged to the XS...MUCH BETTER!

I am satisfied with this purchase.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I am 5"7 and 109 lbs, wears a xs of this jacket. I can wear 2 or 3 layers under it. The navy color is pretty unique, I haven't seen anyone on campus or at work wear it. It is warm and the feathers do not pop out normally. Btw, backcountry's customer service is awesome! Thank you.

No-go for Chicago winters

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I really loved the fit and style of this coat, but one step outside proved that it was no match for the Chicago wind or the lower temps.

Great down coat!

I love the dark blue, non shiny color of the coat

Gorgeous down parka

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This down parka seems superior to some others in the TNF line...has nicer fabric & stitching then most, plus it has a metal TNF logo plate on one of the sleeves, never seen that on TNF product before...pretty cool. Wife loves it.

great coat!

Love this coat. Light but warm. I purchased the Greystone Blue which is a cross between a blue and a soft purple. I think it's great looking.

She loves it

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Form + Function in this piece. Super light loft translates into instant warmth without bulk or heft. She digs the flattering cut. The hood is a nice touch not all similar coats have. TNF just makes really good stuff no matter what. Def recommend.

Awesome coat! Warm without the bulk

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I LOVE this coat. I wanted something longer than the hip-length coat I've had for ages. This comes to just above my knees, which was longer than I expected but in a good way! I'm 5'6" and 127lb. The fit is not tight, I can easily fit a sweater underneath (and more I imagine but who needs it!?). The color, greystone blue, is beautiful and I feel shows well on the computer. I had checked it out in a store first so I did know what to expect. The hood comes off which is great, if you don't want it on all the time. There is one dome at the very bottom of the jacket that pops open as it sits below the bottom of the zip. I don't feel this fact affects anything. It won't pop open if you are standing there, but whenever I sit it does (like getting into the car). No biggie to me! The zip and all the other domes keep it nice and snug. I only mention this fact as an observation, rather than a complaint. I will be happy and warm all Winter.

What size did you purchase? I'm 5'4,127 can't decide from the reviews if I should go small or medium.
