Litewave Amphibious II Shoe

Traveling down river is no fun if you don't stop to get out and look around every once in a while, and if you're searching for a shoe that performs as well on riverside trails as it does in the water itself, look no further than The North Face's Litewave Amphibious II Shoe. It's made with a quick-drying mesh material in the upper to help you avoid soaked and soggy feet when you're back in your kayak or canoe, and features sticky UltrATAC rubber on the outsole that'll grip effectively on steep trails and wet rocks alike. The open heel design wears like a sandal and offers cooling airflow when you hike in hot weather, then collapses quickly to wear like a slip-on when you're kicking it back at camp. And to top it all off there's a super-convenient quick-pull lace system that not only adjusts in a flash, but also won't slip or lose its hold when you're in the water.

  • Versatile shoe for your adventures in and out of the water
  • Mesh upper breathes well and dries quickly when you wander on shore
  • Grippy rubber outsole offers traction on slippery creek crossings
  • Quick-pull lace system adjusts easily and won't loosen in the water
  • Open heel collapses to wear as a slip-on when you're chilling out
  • Cushioned footbed dries quickly to prevent heavy feet
  • Toe cap protects your forefoot when you wade through rocky waters

Decent river shoe, not a canyon shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10

Bought this with the hope that it could take on hikes, rivers, and canyons. I tried it out for a week in Utah and was fairly satisfied. Hiking it lacked a bit of stability in the heel support and left raw skin in a couple places when barefoot but provided good support even with a heavy pack. On the river, it did very well but I wish it dried faster. I would not recommend it for technical canyoneering, as the elastic laces and poor heel support are not great for scrambling. I’ll probably replace the laces with paracord for more stability and fit. They’re better than sandals but not as good as wet approach shoes.
