    Commute. Class. Trail.

The Kabig backpack is a full-sized day pack at home in the urban jungle, but it's also great for day hiking and casual outings to the grocery store or farmer's market. The North Face loaded it with features to make your gadgets snug and secure in case a car cuts you off or you take a tumble while biking to work. Plus, the shoulder straps and back panel are comfortable and designed to ventilate, so you won't look like you just ran a workout in 6th grade gym class when you get back to the office.

    • A big daypack for commuting and the outdoors
    • FlexVent offers cushy shoulders and breathable back panel
    • Fleece laptop sleeve has ejector handle for easy access
    • Main compartment has lots of room for books
    • Fleece tablet sleeve for fitted protection

    Comfortable, travel backpack

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I purchased the black color and I have been using this for the past month.

The Kabig looks great and was one of the reasons I bought this particular model. The TPE coating on the front looks great when it's clean but scuffs easily and might be prone to tearing, longer term use might confirm this. The sternum strap is removable but requires a great deal of effort.

I used this on two camping trips and traveled with this as my only carry-on bag on two trips which were 3-4 days each. It comfortably fit my clothes, a jacket, a pair of shoes, dopp kit, a water bottle and my electronics (power pack, 15 in laptop, cables, chargers, headphones). The main compartment is a large space which opens in a clam shell fashion making it easy to load and unload. Mind you, the space might be a little less than the advertised 40L because of the padding all around the backpack. This is evident on the two side "hidden" pockets which can only accommodate a phone or passport or similarly slim item when the bag is full. This is also not the lightest pack around.
That said, the bag carries well on my shoulders. The straps and back panel are well padded with tons of adjustment due to the load lifters at the top of the straps. The three carry handles on the top and sides are also a nice touch when I want to carry it like a suitcase.
The front admin pocket opens sort of like a peel and provides great access and contains organizational pockets for phone, chargers, keys, documents, etc.
One thing to note, TNF say the toop handle is padded but is actually not. It is the same as the side handles, a strip of webbing which is stitched over itself and quite sturdy.

The bag is made from 900D polyester and feels solid though I didn't exactly do anything rough with it. I wish the zippers were water-resistant.

This is an excellent backpack at it's price point and I'm looking forward to more trips with this one

    How to Measure:
-Have a friend locate the bony bump at the base of your neck, where the slope of your shoulder meets your neck. This is your 7th cervical vertebra (C7). Tilt your head forward to locate it more easily. This is the top of your torso length.
-Place your hands on top of your hips bones, with fingers point forward, thumbs in back. This it eh "shelf" on which your pack will rest. The middle of an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs is the bottom of your torso length.
-Using the tape measure, your friend should measure the distance between the C7 and the imaginary line between your thumbs. Be sure you stand up straight when being measured. You know should have your torso length.
Measure around your waist just above your hips.
