Fuse Brigandine Jacket

The North Face Women's Fuse Brigandine Jacket is a burly big-mountain ski jacket fit for the backcountry. With a hyperarticulated fit, this jacket excels when skiing or riding in demanding terrain. Its three-layer Gore-Tex membrane provides superior waterproof and breathable protection, while it's FuseForm construction seamlessly integrates a heavier weave in the shoulders, sides, and inner arms for increased abrasion resistance without inhibiting mobility.

To enhance performance on the slopes, the Brigandine comes equipped with big mountain features. For starters, a dedicated, helmet-compatible hybrid drop hood can easily be thrown on when the wind picks up and the jacket is fully zipped. Multiple pockets with YKK AquaGuard hold daily necessities including radios, mics, snacks, and glove liners. The chest and hand pockets are pack compatible and the collar pockets also vent excess heat. For additional venting, underarm zips can be undone to help maintain a comfortable temperature while skiing big lines. Finally, wrist gaiters with thumbholes and a powder skirt keep the elements from getting into the jacket so you can ski the harshest terrain in comfort.

  • Ergonomic jacket designed for skiing or riding in demanding terrain
  • 3-layer Gore-Tex construction delivers ultimate weather protection
  • FuseForm blends heavy weaves in high abrasion areas for durability
  • Underarm zip vents and zippered collar pockets dump excess heat
  • Pack-compatible chest and hand pockets securely store gear
  • Wrist gaiters with thumbholes seal out the elements for dry comfort
  • Stretch powder skirt blocks fresh flakes from creeping up back
  • Jacket-to-pant integration creates ultimate snow protection suit

Fits the Hips!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

Getting back to slopes after many years. All my gear, while still in good condition , was ~40 lbs and a child ago. Recently I went around to find a new shell and ran into “ sizing” issues with damn near every jacket I tried on. They all started out great until i tried to zip them up around my hips. To say it was depressing is an understatement. After pouring over reviews , and looking at jacket features I settled on the brigidaire. said a silent prayer and hit the order button.
Well it came today and it FITS with plenty of room for layering. Even if I lost those “ 40” I still could work with this shell. I prefer to control my body temperature and layer as I see fit. In good ‘ole N.H. it can be 15 degrees one day and 60 the next. I’ll have to wait until next year to see how it feels and holds up while skiing.
I love all the pockets / features that come with this jacket and the color is beautiful. As others have said the jacket is a bit “stiff” but overall nothing a few wears will not remedy. The jacket looks great and flattering to a fuller figure. If my weight wasn’t mostly in my thighs and hips I would say most women will probably want to order one size down from their normal size.

"When you need that extra push over the cliff," take this jacket. I'm completely obsessed. It's not meant for the backcountry because it's burly, so a bit big to stuff in your pack. But,it does fit in my pack without too much trouble, so I keep taking it.

It is such and comfortable and bomber jacket. I can get away with just a base layer under this, on a lot of days. The million pockets make me wicked happy. It an organizers dream! Plus, I like not having one big heavy pocket that's stuffed with everything. Spreading it all out between the pockets keeps the jacket's shape, and keeps it balanced.

The powder skirt is nice, as is the long length and high collar. The design is absolutely gorgeous.

Movement is easy and natural. The cuffs are highly adjustable. So, you can put your gloves under or over. I have gauntlets on my gloves, so I really like how tightly you can secure the wrists straps. My gauntlets go over them, with ease.

And then back to the epic pocket situation. There is a pocket on the sleeve that you can velcro your pass in, and has a goggle wipe. Ah, such luxury. All the amenities!

The sizing is true, for what the jacket intends. But, you could size down if you wanted a little different, trimmer look. But this jacket is intended to be long, and relaxed. So I stuck with my normal medium size.

    This jacket is bombproof

I was looking for a technical shell that was actually cut for a woman (I'm looking at you, Marmot), and that could stand up to some abuse. My husband has the male version of this jacket, and once I saw it in person I was sold. Not only did he ride through some trees with zero snags, the texture and fit was great! I plan on having this jacket for a long time, and though it's not cheap, this is one of the highest-quality products I've ever bought from TNF. Well done! I got a large, which can accommodate a puffy and other layers underneath. I also love that the cuffs are large enough to fit around my gloves. I have had the issue of there being a weird gap between my gloves and cuffs before.

I was grateful to receive this jacket for Christmas. When tried it on I was initially worried about how it fit me. I usually buy my jackets in mediums and according to the size guide that seemed like that would be the right way to go.

When I first tried it on felt snug by my armpits, even without any layers underneath. I was very close to returning it in exchange for a large. However, when I put some layers on underneath for some reason it felt a bit better and I decided to just full send and keep it.

I took it on my winter break ski trips to Ski Santa Fe, Taos Ski Valley, and Jackson Hole, where I put it through the wringer.

After just two days of skiing in it, I felt the rigid Gore-Tex relax a little bit and It fit perfectly.

I think that I could have gotten a size large and it would have been a bit more relaxed initially, and I would not have been so hesitant about returning it, but overall it was a great buy and I am really glad I have it.

This is such a cool jacket! Its super burly and the fit and color and spot on!!!
I love this jacket but really dont know if it is worth the price, it seems overpriced.
The fit is great, very flattering. Someone else said this but all the pockets are weird. There are two that are up high that are tiny and too high and small to put anything in. I tried a small but might get a medium If i purchased the jacket.

    So close North Face

So, I am a jacket lover. And I thought that I had found the perfect jacket. It's so close, but for that high of a price, not close enough. I am really mad that they missed the mark on a couple key features because I really love the look of this jacket - and I have been jacket shopping ALL winter...
    - fit is great, not too loose, not too tight. Length is perfect.
    - color is GORGEOUS
    - fabric and zippers would definitely keep you dry, it is Gore Tex, so it is kinda stiff and makes a little noise when you move.
    - it does have lots of pockets! My most important feature.
    - the front 2 hand pockets are gusseted and larger - just like I wanted for my snacks and flat water bottle
    - there are pit zips, yay! and they do have mesh in them
    - there is a sleeve pocket, so glad
    - there are more than 2 chest pockets, with access from inside and outside on one of them - perfect.
    So many pockets.

-really expensive, but I would have kept it anyway with a couple tweaks, because I know how hard it is to find a jacket with all the fit & features that I want.

    - it does NOT have wrist gators. There is a little thumb loop inside the sleeve, but nothing to keep the snow and wind from coming in - except the normal velcro closure on the outside. This was a big no for me. (it says that it does in the description)

-it has 2 inside stash pockets. This was a HUGE selling point for me, BUT, North Face blew it, the stash pockets are shallow, and placed up so high in the jacket that if you put a pair of gloves inside, and you have any breasts, you cannot close the jacket comfortably... (you can close it, but, it's bulky...)
This was my biggest issue. I so wanted the 2 inside stash pockets. If North Face had just placed them a little lower, and made them a little deeper, they would have lined up with your waist. Then you could put a beanie, gloves, all kinds of things inside with no bulkiness at all. Really surprised that North Face didn't make this adjustment. And I am NOT a busty woman (34B)

    - also, I knew that it was not insulated, but to be my ideal jacket, it would be nice to have a little bit of insulation. Just a little.
Hope this helps someone else make a decision.

    Super Burly Shell

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

The Fuse Brigandine has to be one of the greatest ski shells ever made. It is meant for big mountain skiing/ski mountaineering, but can also be worn in resort. I don't think I'd wear it touring because it is so heavy and made with very thick fabric. The fuse fabric it is made of is incredibly durable and it has kept me 100% dry and protected from wind every time I've worn it. I love it so much that I bought one this year and last year. To what I know, there are no noticeable differences between this year and last year. My favorite skier, Angel Collinson, wears this jacket and if it is good enough for her in what she does, it is definitely good enough for me!

The fit is true to size with room to layer. I love the length! It covers your entire bottom with room to spare. It is also flattering and the colors pop. This year I got the Kokomo Green, although I really like all three color offerings.

It has all kinds of features including a google wipe on the sleeve to radio holsters on the neck area, pit zippers, harness compatible pockets, and a super stretchy powder skirt that integrates perfectly with The North Face pants and bibs. The collar and hood are extra burly to be able to handle large snow loads.

This is one of my favorite jackets ever made and I highly recommend it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shell. It's totally bombproof, waterproof , and breathable and the fuseform fabric is a bit thicker I have not been able to come close to any abrasion or tear in a whole season of crazy riding. I have both the yellow and hot pink and now of course they have new colors. What's a girl to do?!! Runs true to size.

    Review from my wife:
I love everything about this jacket. The fit, the style, the tech - it's simply amazing. It's pricey, but if you want something that'll last forever then it's worth the investment. I get so many compliments on the jacket, I can't wait to sport it for years to come!
I'm 5'2'' 115 lbs and I own a M in the "orange" (looks more yellow) and a S in the grey. The small fits better, but the medium isn't that much bigger, just a bit more relaxed. I'm also OBSESSED with all of the colors. I highly recommend!
